We're starting to turn this boat into a home - one upgrade at a time. In this episode we install hammock chairs, replaced broken faucets, upgrade our drinking water system, and say goodbye to our rusted-out magma grill. But boat life also mean jellyfish, ducklings, and unexpected learning curves at every turn. Watch as we continue our liveaboard family journey and make this Royal Cape 500 a little more livable, one small victory at a time. Sailing hasn’t always been a sport for inner-city state schools like the Greig City Academy (GCA). But they’ve shown it can be accessible to everyone, with amazing results. The Greig City Sailing Academy Sailing Programme was kick started in 2014. Jon Holt, GCA’s Head of Outdoor Education, was driving students down from North London to Poole for sailing weekends. They loved getting out on the water and some of them wanted to take it further. On Thursday 26th June we gathered at the Royal Ocean Racing Club in London to hear from students at the Greig City Academy, Jon Holt with America's Cup legend David 'Freddie' Carr talking to the sailors. Unfortunately Freddie went to the Royal Ocean Racing Club in Cowes, so Mark Jardine stepped in to ask the students questions, and they were undoubtedly the stars of the show with some fantastic insights as to what they do and how sailing has helped them. The third day dawned with light cloud and absolutely no wind in the harbour. As often happens at Salcombe, by the time the fleet started to launch a South-Westerly had started to establish itself and by the 10.30 start time there was 4-5 knots across the harbour. With the rest of the UK cooking in 30+ degrees, Salcombe has been veiled in sea mist for the last few days. Monday was the day when this was meant to clear but competitors woke to find the race track still shrouded in mist. However, the breeze was round into the East with the hope that it would build. In this episode, we leave Andratx, Spain and sail along the northern coast of Mallorca and across the Mediterranean to the mainland of Europe. Our destination: Nice France. Nicole had a rough time in the beginning of our trip trying to work on the open sea, but eventually she adjusted to the solitude and the motion. After two nights of sailing, we arrived in southern France. The heat was especially intense, and by some crazy stroke of luck the generator failed, leaving us with no air conditioning. After some thoughtful troubleshooting, the generator function was restored.

This is a motor boat that packs a lot of clever features into her modest size. She's also capable of a healthy cruising speed and is built to an extermely high standard. If you are looking for a really well built, conservative styling but also fast motor boat that will give you a totally new experience and area of operations compared to slower boats then you may see a lot of value in this Marex 310 Sun Cruiser! She won't be perfect for everyone but that's the case for every boat so I hope in this video you can get a feel for what the Marex 310 Sun Cruiser offers in terms of layout but also what she can do for you when it comes to speed and performance. If you calculate how many more destinations you can visit in one day on a boat like this then your whole experience on the water could be a new and exciting one. While Jesse’s off working FIFO in the mines back in Australia, I’m holding it down solo on our sailboat in a marina in Malaysia 🇲🇾. This is a raw look at what boat life really looks like when you’re alone — the daily chores, boat repairs, grocery runs, gym sessions, and the quiet moments in between. It’s not always sunsets and sailing… sometimes it’s scrubbing bilges, fixing leaks, and doing laundry on the dock. In this episode, I’m sharing my solo days living aboard while I get Stella (our Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 39) ready for the next adventure — prepping for a world voyage, one step at a time. If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to live alone on a sailboat, or what happens behind the scenes when your partner’s away and there’s still a boat to maintain — this is it. ⚓️ Don’t forget to like, comment & subscribe for more real boat life episodes! The Brain of SV GOAT – Raspberry Pi + Signal K + KIP Walkthrough In this detailed tech episode, I walk you through the complete digital architecture powering our sailboat SV GOAT. From data collection to visual dashboards, this is the system that lets us sail smart and troubleshoot confidently, even thousands of miles offshore. This is the same setup we rely on daily—built around a Raspberry Pi, the Signal K server, and the KIP interface. Whether you're preparing for a refit, a circumnavigation, or just upgrading your boat systems, this walkthrough is for you. What is a Raspberry Pi? A Raspberry Pi is a compact, energy-efficient, Linux-based microcomputer. On SV GOAT, we use the Raspberry Pi 4 to manage navigation, log sensor data, display dashboards, and act as a central hub for system monitoring. It's reliable, easy to customize, and perfect for off-grid installations. What is Signal K? Signal K is an open-source data server built for marine applications. It connects to NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183 networks, pulling data from onboard systems like GPS, wind sensors, depth sounders, batteries, tanks, and more. Signal K serves as a single point of access and makes this information available across apps, dashboards, and the web. What is KIP? KIP (short for Signal K Instrument Panel) is a customizable browser-based dashboard. It displays real-time data such as speed, heading, wind angle, battery voltage, anchor alarms, solar yield, and engine parameters—all in a visual interface you can access from any device. NMEA 2000 vs NMEA 0183 – What's the Difference? NMEA 2000 is the modern marine networking standard. It's faster, supports multiple devices, and is easier to install and expand than NMEA 0183. Feature NMEA 0183 NMEA 2000 Communication One-way Two-way Speed 4,800 bps 250,000 bps Network Type Point-to-point Backbone Installation Complex Plug-and-play Scalability Limited High Why This Setup Works for Us This open-source system gives us complete visibility over our boat without depending on proprietary hardware. We can: Customize dashboards Create smart alerts Automate logbooks Monitor systems from anywhere Keep costs low while improving safety Our Current Setup Includes: Raspberry Pi 4 (4GB) Signal K Server with plugins KIP browser interface NMEA 2000 backbone with Actisense NGT-1 interface Victron Cerbo GX and SmartShunt Wind, depth, and speed sensors GPS antenna Historical data logging and automatic reports Need a System Like This? Drop a comment below and I’ll make a tutorial on how to replicate this setup on your own boat. This week on Sailing GOAT, we leave the sweet chaos of Poros behind and head toward one of the most mythical landmarks of the Mediterranean: The Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion. But of course, we couldn't just sail there… we had to race there—against our friends on SV WOLO. ⛵️ Boat vs Boat With full sails up and wind on our side, we challenged SV WOLO to an old-fashioned buddy boat race. The conditions were perfect: a sporty breeze, blue skies, and the island-dotted Aegean to make it a sailing dream. It was fast, fun, and just the right amount of competitive (okay, maybe we really wanted to win 😅). 🏛 Arrival at the Temple of Poseidon As the sun started its descent, we rounded the famous Cape Sounion, where the ancient Temple of Poseidon stands guard over the Aegean Sea. Built in the 5th century BC, this temple was the last sight of land for sailors leaving Athens—and a place to honor the god of the sea for a safe return. Sailing right beneath the cape and dropping anchor in the shadow of 2,500 years of maritime history was a powerful moment for both of us. The golden hour glow on the marble columns was pure magic. 📍 This Episode Includes: Epic buddy boat sailing with SV WOLO Beautiful Aegean sailing conditions Approaching Cape Sounion by sea Exploring the Temple of Poseidon by land Sailing history, Greek mythology, and big grins all around ✨ A Bit of History & Magic Legend has it that King Aegeus threw himself from the cliffs of Sounion believing his son Theseus had perished. The sea was named Aegean in his honor. Today, sailors from all over the world pay homage to Poseidon, protector of seafarers, as they pass this sacred point. 💬 Let’s Talk: Have you ever visited the Temple of Poseidon? What’s the most mythic place you’ve ever sailed to? Drop your thoughts below—we read every comment. 👍 Like. Subscribe. Share. Sailing from Lizard Island to the Flinders Group took an unexpected turn. Just as we put the screecher sail out, we had a part of the rigging let go— part of our bowsprit rigging — gave out, forcing us to adapt quickly while underway. But like every good sailing adventure, there’s always a silver lining! We made it safely to the Flinders Group, a stunning and remote collection of islands in Far North Queensland. There, we ventured ashore to explore ancient Aboriginal caves — sacred places covered in rock art that has stood for thousands of years. From unexpected gear failure to walking through ancient history, this episode has it all: sailing, problem-solving, epic landscapes, and a deep connection to Australia’s past. Join us as we push north and discover just how wild — and magical — this coastline can be. 🎉 WANT TO KEEP VIDEOS COMING? At the time of this video, we have about 60 days left before we leave so getting organized is the best thing to do at this point to see where we are with food and storage. Retirement planning? Looking for financial freedom? Consider a small, affordable sailboat to have as an additional option for if/when it hits the fan. My favorites. 1-West Wight Potter 15 2-Montgomery 17 3-Flicka 20 4-Com-Pac 23 5-Dana 24 And their tactical versions. Some things can only be done using AI images. I hope you enjoy the video. We were at the Alubat boatyard in France earlier this week for the launch of the NEW Ovni 490 and got the opportunity to shoot a tour for a first look of the latest in the new Ovni range of aluminum sailboats. While we didn't have enough time on this trip for a complete and thorough look, we did get an overview of the interior layout and features while it was being commissioned for the handover to the owner later in the week. The Ovni 490 will be at the Grand Pavois boat show this September 23 - 28 in La Rochelle, France. Be sure to contact Rob for more information about the Alubat Ovni 490 and the full Ovni range of aluminum sailboats. website: alubatamerica.com email: rob@alubatamerica.com

Discover the secret behind the peculiar protrusions on the bow of the Shogun 50, an innovative 50-foot high-performance sailing yacht. Known for its carbon-fiber construction, minimalist Scandinavian aesthetics, and exceptional sailing characteristics, the Shogun 50 surprises sailors with unique bow features called spray rails. Originally inspired by extreme racing yachts like IMOCA 60s and Volvo Ocean Racers, these rails significantly reduce spray, keep the deck dry, and even double as convenient footholds for bow work. Dive into the fascinating design details and learn how small features can dramatically impact sailing performance. #sailing #boating #sailboat

Ferrari today unveils its new Ferrari Hypersail project, an unprecedented sporting challenge in the world of sailing that blends racing tradition with technological innovation. The name Hypersail honours Ferrari’s racing heritage and its Hypercars, the ultimate expression of performance in the realm of endurance. Led by Team Principal Giovanni Soldini, Hypersail aims to establish an outstanding research and development platform focused on offshore sailing. To explore new frontiers in technology and innovation, the project draws upon the expertise of the Ferrari team, which, in close collaboration with specialised nautical experts, is directly involved in the entire cycle of conception, engineering, and testing. The yacht, designed by French naval architect Guillaume Verdier, also represents a great nautical achievement: a groundbreaking 100-foot flying ocean racing monohull prototype that will stabilise its flight on three points of contact. Verdier’s most notable innovation is the use of a canting keel as the support for one of the foils, with the other two contact points being a foil on the rudder and, alternately, the two lateral foils. The 100-foot yacht will also be the first of its size in the world to be entirely energy self-sufficient. Currently under construction in Italy, the yacht is scheduled to launch in 2026, after which it will undergo its initial sea trials.
