While we are getting ready to downsize from a 3 bedroom family home to move aboard a sailing catamaran a massive storm throws us a curve ball. It is only a month away from the end of hurricane season in Florida and we are projected to get a direct hit from a monster category 4 storm. We are not located in an evacuation area and both of us are familiar with the hurricane preparation drills being from tropical areas. We help family and friends and get all our supplies and hurricane shutters up. We get gas, propane and fill up tubs and containers for water. Our intense focus on our sailing business startup and our upcoming move to Puerto Rico temporarily shifts to Hurricane Matthew. This is a peek into the tropical life. A constant 22 knot southerly wind made for a very quick trip up to Lion Island and back to Sydney Harbour for the CYCA fleet in the latest of the Ocean Pointscore races. Bow Caddy caught the first six boats at they came around North Head on the return leg. Look out for the whales when the whale watching boat is in shot.

We continued with some more sanding on the teak deck and took a break from all of this to go to the Madisonville Wooden Boat Festival The link to this festival is below https://www.woodenboatfest.org It is a good time and when we bought our boat DreamChaser there was a plaque where it had participated in the show in 2008. I would love to see if they have the pictures from that year so I could see the boat then. We anchored out in the curve of the river with friends from the Marina. We had a great time with 4 days of anchoring out and we left on Saturday afternoon so we could fly to Houston to meet my brother and his wife on Saturday night for a visit. Well, it’s been three weeks and and the boatyard is still working to replace Varuna’s bowsprit. We decide it’s time for Ty to be done with work, so we can be there to make sure the work is progressing so that we can get out of there! While we wait, we get up to some projects ourselves… deep in the cockpit and anchor lockers. Our anchor locker has proved to be problematic, with chain piling below the hawse pipe, getting wedged in tight spaces, and wrapping around the inner forestay. We come up with a floor to put in the locker to protect some of the equipment below, and try to make an easier path for the chain to slide down. Next, on to the cockpit lockers! Those big, caverness lockers are great for storing stuff, but hard to keep organized. We decide to add some shelves inside to help separate the space and give us bit more organization. Through both of these projects, we have lots of fun learning how epoxy and fiberglassing works, it’s not perfect, but we’re learning! After getting so dirty, it’s time for Hillary to try her very first shower on board Varuna! Not too bad… Check it out! We hope you enjoy our videos and adventures.
