It is one of the European sailing season’s highest profile and most demanding events, and the Oman Sail Diam 24 team are eager for a podium at the Tour de France à la Voile. Last year the Omani team secured an impressive fifth place finish. This time around the experienced crew have their sights set on a top three podium place. Voici le récit de notre Première traversée de l'atlantique sur notre voilier. Suivez le Voyage de Thomas et Pauline un jeune couple qui voyage avec un brise de mer 31 après 2 ans de chantier. Nous sommes partis du Cap vert, plus exactement de la baie de mindelo pour une destination que nous ne connaissions pas. Au milieu de l'atlantique nous avons choisis la Guadeloupe comme point d'arrivé afin de retrouver des amis. Nous avons mis 21 jours pour traverser cet océan. Les 4, 5 premiers jours ont été franchement galère avec un mer difficile et pas de soleil. Puis le temps s'est améliorer et nous avons eu le droit à des paysages magnifiques. La dernière semaine nous avons eu trés peu de vent et nous nous sommes trainés jusqu'a l'arrivé en Guadeloupe.

Elaine Bunting talked to designer Guillaume Verdier at the launch. A revolutionary 100ft fully foiling oceangoing trimaran capable of covering more than 900 miles in a day and sailing at speeds of 50 knots was launched in Lorient this week. Designed by Guillaume Verdier, the foil genius behind the America’s Cup winning Emirates Team New Zealand, Gitana 17 is designed to be sailed solo and to beat the round the world record. Gitana 17 is the latest of the race boats backed by Baron Benjamin de Rothschild. The 100ft ‘Ultime’ trimaran is the culmination of three years of work by the team and brings together developments from areas as diverse as the Vendée Globe IMOCA 60s, the America’s Cup and the MOD70 trimarans. This is a beast of a boat and significantly different from others in the growing ‘Ultime’ development class such as François Gabart’s Macif and Thomas Coville’s Sodebo. For the first time, this is a boat designed around foil performance. According to the design team, Gitana 17 will be able to foil at speeds of 48-50 knots in 16-25 knots of true wind and seas of 6-8m – typical Atlantic conditions. Me and Steph make a pretty good crew on Galopin. We sailed from Arrecife to Playa Blanca along the western coast of Lanzarote. It was a great sail downwind but on the way back we had a problem and had to turn back. So we had a look at the town of Playa Blanca then headed back upwind and moored at Marina Lanzarote with more than 20kts of wind. But we did it. Like I said me and Steph make a good two man crew. Shascha had a VERY close call when struck by a dinghy in the anchorage yesterday, she was snorkelling over the anchor as we were resetting it in preparation for the arrival of Tropical Storm DON which was due in just a few short hours... she was INCREDIBLY lucky that she wasn't just one foot closer or the prop would have gone right down her back and ripped her to shreds... This is purely an example of what can happen even when you think everyone is paying attention, it is no fault of anyone, and no blame is being laid, but illustrates a warning to all to exercise extreme caution in the water, whether swimming or snorkelling or driving a dinghy in a busy anchorage. A full hand for the 4th Monaco Solar & Electric Boat Challenge, organised by the Yacht Club de Monaco in partnership with UIM (International Powerboating Federation). June 3rd, 2017, 53 sailboats and 85 sailors came from the USA, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Malta, Sweden, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and from all over France to share this unforgettable day! The world assembly record was beaten again this year: 6 minutes 28 seconds for the double-handed crew and 10 minutes 40 seconds for the single-handed! Light wind in the morning, strong conditions in the afternoon, the 4th edition was full of surprises!
