In this episode we learn to make Croatian peka; a delicious traditional melody of meat and vegetables, slow-cooked in an open fire under a 'dome' shaped bell. This traditional Croatian dish is well-loved by Croatians, as it can be cooked in large portions and shared with family and friends. What makes Peka unique is the equipment used and the way in which the dish is cooked. Whilst Peka is the traditional name, the dish can also be called 'ispod čripnje', which literally translates to 'under the bell', referring to the dome-shaped lid under which the tender meat and vegetable meal is cooked. The dome-shaped lid is traditionally made out of terracotta or iron and is covered with hot coals to give a smokey, tender flavor to the recipe. Another key factor in making Peka is that it is traditionally slow-cooked for hours over hot coals, on a stone fireplace with burning embers on top of the bell. There are plenty of variations in Peka recipes, and each family will most likely have their own recipe! The most common ingredients include octopus, lamb, veal or chicken, potatoes, carrots, and peppers. Local Stories is a series dedicated to providing an insight into the quirky aspects of Croatian people, culture and traditions!

Yep, we are sailing across Corsica already. It was our dream since a very long time and now we are here enjoying its beauty and uniqueness. Corsica is so different along other places and islands we have seen, mostly rocky edges along shore side and green mountains above .... that barely can be covered at the first glance. Sailing Around the World, Boat Electronics and Batteries, Ep 37, Off the Starboard Hull In a Lagoon 400 S2 Catamaran. We are currently waiting out hurricane season in San Carlos, Sonora, Mexico in the Sea of Cortez. A Canadian Couple from Vancouver Island, BC, Canada left from Parksville July 21, 2016 to sail around the world in their Lagoon 400 S2 catamaran. See how they get along, who they meet and where they end up going. They have a 10 year estimated time line, but a very open agenda. Update: Laurie was ejected from the boat in late April 2019 after almost 3 glorious years of exploring and discovery. She is now back in BC with family and friends.
A short documentary film by Howard Steen & Guus Floor shot on the West Coast of Scotland and featuring two old friends on a sailing trip to revisit the scene of past mountaineering adventures. Things do not go entirely to plan and their major challenge during the trip turns out to be greater than anything the sea or mountains can throw at them. Well it was our annual trip to Southampton Boat Show and of course we stayed in one of our favourite places in the UK, Poole Quay, Dorset. We had a great weekend meeting up with some of our Patrons and You Tube followers on Friday night, Saturday at the Boat show and again Saturday night. Sunday we explored a bit of old town Poole, got the drone up for the first time on our videos and overall had a fantastic weekend. Hope you enjoy it. And a massive thank you to everyone who came for the meet up. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you found it informative or entertaining please give it a thumbs as it helps get YouTube to promote it outside of the existing subscribers. I decide to sell "Lets Live"!!! A big decision but one that I made quite easily. I just want something a little faster and newer that I don't have to fix up quite so often. As so often happens with me, I had already met the buyer on a previous trip. His name is Russel, a Kiwi and a beginner in the sailing game. I am very confident that "Lets Live" will be a great boat for him, as she was for me the last 3 years. I agree to deliver the boat to him in Townsville. Along the way I stop at some pretty amazing places and have the best final leg. New adventures coming soon as I search for and buy my next boat. We always say, if you don't push yourself out of your comfort zone, then you are not pushing yourself hard enough. For our overnight passage form Martinique to St Vincent, I decided to take that opportunity and practice solo sailing (well, sort of). Dan being a fly on the wall, I was able to learn so much during this experience. Now I am that much more confident about my sailing skills and abilities. With the worst part of the Singapore Strait behind us, we still had to navigate the rest of the shipping lanes to relative safety on the eastern side of the Malaysian peninsula. We opted to try our luck closer to shore and weave through the hazards, keeping clear of the big ships. Arriving in the shelter of Jason's bay was a relief after several days of full-on tanker dodging. But when we reached Pulau Tinggi, we knew we had arrived where we wanted to be, and why we had run the gauntlet of Singapore. At last, the pure shores of the South China Seas! *************************************** If you enjoy or have even learned something from our videos, please SUBSCRIBE to our channel, and if you really like our work maybe throw us a bone... Thanks so much for your support, The adventure continues. Safe sailing. Twitter https://twitter.com/barryperrins Facebook https://www.facebook.com/adventuresofanoldseadog/ Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘blar bar mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining.
