Leg 3 of the Volvo Ocean Race had been a physical battle and mental challenge, with winds rarely dipping below 25 knots, and freezing seas for the entire 6500 mile leg. Day to day life proved to be strenuous, not only on deck but also below, as trade mark Southern Ocean conditions pushed teams to their limits.
The new America's Cup class boat, the AC75 is a bold and ambitious project. Here's how the radical 75ft foiling monohull will fly.

If you like this video, then subscribe (click on the red "subscribe" button below the video) because there is more like it to come! This stunning yacht designed by Robert Clark was built in 1950 at the shipyard of John Hayes & Sons in Milsons Point. "Southwinds" has been strongly built with1 1/2 inch thick Huon Pine planks, spotted gum ribs and springers with teak decks. An evocative boat with plenty of history and character, yet all the comfort of a wonderful well-designed layout with spacious cockpit and comfortable live-aboard spaces. Anyone who has spent time aboard "Southwinds" will tell you the sailing is just a part of the enjoyment. She sails fast and steadily due to her long waterline and solid build. The decks are expansive as can be expected on a boat this long, while her Ketch rig keeps her manageable to sail. She has furling mizzen, main and genoa with all controls from the cockpit. Hydraulic steering from the Teak and brass traditional ships wheel. Below, rich timbers, large windows, and high wide floors create a luxurious and spacious feel. The comfortable dining area and open galley offer a large, warm entertaining space. The berths have plenty of light and storage. There is a separate head from the bathroom, so you can spend more time undisturbed in the bath. Yes, thats right, a bespoke wooden bath with traditional brass fittings. "SouthWinds" has a rich history. Under the name Valhalla, she was one of the first yachts to be skippered around the world by a woman. She has competed in the Sydney to Hobart and shes been owned at various time by notable Australians including Iain Finlay, Sailor Tim Herbert and John Hallas of Ella Bache, sponsor of Jessica Watsons single handed circumnavigation. Having had many names over the years, when she was restored in New Zealand, he name was restored as well. The plans for "Southwinds" from 1948, including pencils of her keel profile and cabins and inks of her lines, half breadth and ketch sail plan in 1:16, lie in the Museum at Greenwich. Her specifications are registered with Lloyds

This episode will be a retrospective of our Tiny Shipping Container House from the foundations all the way to where we are right now, the building of the openings. This is the ninth episode towards our goal of building, by ourselves, a Tiny Shipping Container House and producing a Youtube Series about it called Living Tiny Project. Some of you might still be hangover from the party last night, so today you don't need to think too much, just relax and enjoy this quick 4 minutos clip showing the progress we had on 2017. Measuring tension on continuous control lines is important to ensure you are on-top of the setup of your rig and sail shape. This video shows you how to create a reference point to allow you to measure the full range movement of your boats backstay. The technique can be used for both cascading and non cascading continuous control line systems all over you boat, ensuring that you are always on top of your setup. Additional tips for enhancing your team performance can be found at our the Bottom Up Boats website. https://bupboats.blogspot.co.uk/ If you have any aspect of your sailing or racing that you would like to improve leave a question in the comment and we see what we can do to help !

▶ Check out my gear on Kit: https://kit.com/sailingsatori On The Hook (OTH) is a little bit of a departure from our regular "Cruising Log" episodes. Our "On The Hook" videos will be more of a conversational and topical nature, as opposed to a highly edited travel chronicle. Here we will discuss special Sailing Satori news, boating topics, product reviews, and whatever else we feel is important at the time. In this episode, we talk about our cruising "plans". We cover where we have been so far, and our ideas for the future. Our regular episodes are about 7 months behind, so we wanted to give you guys an update. As our regular episodes progress, we will work on catching up to only a few months behind real time. THE SATORI STORY We are Nick and Kelly, two people with a spirit for adventure. Here we are documenting our journey as we travel the world with our dog Arthur aboard Satori (1989 Morgan 44 Center Cockpit Sailboat). This is a story of sailing and adventure, but its also about the beautiful souls we meet along the way. It’s a story of two people living their lives a little differently in order to gain a new perspective on our beautiful planet and the people in it. Our experiences have affected us in such a way, we are sharing them in the hopes that others will find the inspiration to do what they are passionate about. Follow your dreams!

WE ARE FINALY SAILING TO THE BAHAMAS! Wow the past month and a half has been an adventure for sure! After driving across the country from Oregon to Florida with our sailboat and having the worst BAD LUCK in the entire world we are SO READY to get to the Bahamas! We woke up around 3 A.M. this morning and got ready to cross the Gulf Stream. The crossing was very calm and easy sailing and took us around 12 hrs. to get to Alice Town in The Bahamas. We came across several ships heading North and South with out any problems, except for one. The ship was broadcasting AIS which was helpful until we realized his information was totally wrong! We ended up giving way to the ship to let it pass by us and in the process the boom swung across the boat and the main sheet whip-lashed Kenzie in the arm really hard! The force knocked her phone out of her hands and she said it was like slow motion watching it bounce on the side of the boat twice before landing in the cockpit. Her phone almost went for a swim....oops. Now she has a scar across her left arm that will always remind her of our sailing adventure. We are just glad it wasn't worse than that. We got to Alice Town and got a slip at Browns Marina. The place was really nice and we couldn't get over how crystal clear the water was. Kenzie's first impression of the Bahamas wasn't that great though. She thought it was a creepy place and was worried we would get attacked if we walked around the town, but realized that the people were nice, it was just a creepy run down town. ********************************************************************** We are now FINALLY getting to the good stuff!
