During the 19 days spent in Grenada, s/v Cloudy Bay (Hallberg-Rassy 54) crew took two days to explore the Spice Island by car. We drove along the east, north and west coasts and off the beaten path. This video captures the most interesting moments: Grand Etang, Grenville, Concorde waterfall, Dougladston Estate, Gouyave Nutmeg Factory, Victoria, Sauteurs, Bathway Beach, Levera, River Antoine Distillery & estate, Grenada Chocolate Factory, and bits in-between.

Episode 14 Ricky receives some of the components to start building our water maker. (Yes we are building our own water maker). Ricky perfects the seating area in our galley and adds some cool shelves. You get to meet Gerry. He helped us out with doing our entrance floor into our cockpit as we wanted to change up the design a bit! Previously we had a few smaller access hatches which we wanted to change into one big access hatch in our cockpit area. Ricky removed our awning as there was a few holes that were not closed up by previous owners which caused leakage (something which we definitely had to fix) We started adding braces onto our framework for out cabinetery. In Banderas Bay, Mexico we make some final preparations before casting off on our next passage. Taking advantage of an extensive nautical chart library, we find all the charts we will need for Central and South America and get them scanned and digitized for easy electronic charting. We also visit a local doctor and stock our offshore first aid kit with medications. In the summer 2017 I sealed the hatch with some butyl sealant and sikaflex 295 UV but the humidity levels are now to unevenly so I change the rubber gasket to a new one. This is the first time I do a hatch gasket change so I don't know how tight it must be. After completion of the filming and editing I plan to make it more tight so the gasket will hold it self on the acrylic glass plate. I have measured the old gasket and it is 188 cm. long. I flip the dinghy over and cover the outside of the hull in a layer of fiberglass cloth and epoxy. It's so cool to see how the cloth disappears as it absorbs the epoxy - this is especially apparent when the footage is sped up, which you'll certainly see - with a certain amount of stylish flair added. 103 hours into the build thus far. That means, only... I don't know, maybe another 200 or so to go. Who knows. I do get some assistance from my 7 year old apprentice during this video. She's such a great helper. You know what the best part of having a 7 year old apprentice is? She doesn't seem to mind at all that her instructor's qualifications are... lacking. Thanks for watching!! In episode 6 of BoatTechTV we pause for a moment and revisit the previous episode to simplify the description of hull speed. The episode explains where the term comes from and how it is used in the real world to determine the suggested maximum speed of a particular hull design. Hull Speed is very useful for sizing an engine and propeller. It gives a good robust method to determine the top speed of a displacement vessel. This condition is met when the vessel has a crest at the bow and stern, that is one wavelength on the waterline. This was deemed a physical limit for sailing ships as they lacked the power (no engines) to push through this increase in resistance that it caused - hence the term!

This Fix it Friday, we replace our domestic service batterieson our Bavaria 47 yacht. Two of the original batteries started to fail so we decide to replace all four. The two which were okay have now been put in our camper van. It is always good practice to change all of the batteries at once to avoid problems at a later date. We should now be good for a few seasons at least! Fix it Fridays are extras to our normal episodes and feature some of the little jobs/projects we do aboard the boat on a daily basis. Exploring the Russell Group of the Solomon Islands was amazing. Beautiful beaches, stunning reefs and discovering new waves. Colombia Working on the boat in the heat and the rain, trying to get ready for the next leg of the journey. Santa Marta is a place of extremes in weather and that can make everyday chores a challenge. I run into some fellow cruiser friends and we tour the city on foot and see the colourful lives of the locals.

As we prepare to leave the USA and head offshore, the preparation work begins. We have so , so much to do after living on the boat for 6 months without saiing. Today our attention turns to making sure our safety gear is working and in date. Pyrotechnic flares are a must for offshore sailing, so we go to source and replace out of date units.
