Adventure? Yes, it's an adventure, just not the one I expected.
See below the deck of s/v Sunburst. A simple walk-thru of an older 35 ft sailboat built for blue water sailing. Sunburst is a 1971 Chris-Craft Caribbean 35 long keel sloop designed by Sparkman & Stephens. It was designed as a Motor Sailor and used the same hull design as the Chris-Craft Sail Yacht 35. Only 100 hulls were manufactured. Sunburst is hull #11. Full specs are listed in the video. Official Specifications when new: https://sailboatdata.com/sailboat/caribbean-35-chris-craft

After the purchase, it was now time to prepare and bring it home. This was a 1300 nautical mile journey by a rookie who had never sailed or even piloted a boat. A few mistakes and 38 days later, I arrived.
In this episode I finally purchase a sailboat. After a close inspection, survey and water trial, the search is over. Sunburst is a 1971 Chris Craft Caribbean 35 motor sailer sloop rig designed for ocean crossings. Hand laid thick fiberglass hull with a full keel, skeg mounted rudder and a 54 horsepower 4 cylinder Yanmar diesel engine. It holds 100 gallons of fresh water, 80 gallons of diesel fuel. Dual cabins and a full galley with all the extras This is the perfect yacht (within my price range) for sailing the world.

After making my purchase, I rented a slip at Harbortown Marina and spent a few weeks making repairs and becoming familiar with every detail of Sunburst. I wanted to make sure everything was in good working order before taking it out on such a long trip by myself. So, after stocking up with supplies and waiting for good weather, I finally launched, heading towards Kemah, Texas. BTW: I had never piloted a vessel or had even been on a sailboat before. So I did a quick study on navigational rules while still at the dock. I also used the engine mostly on this first trip but had a wonderful time sailing for a couple of days and motor sailing with just the head sail at other times. There is nothing like letting the wind push you across the open water in beautiful weather. I just got hooked to the sea.
