Season 2 Bonus video! we get a lot of video that doesn't always make the cut. This is like a "deleted sceens" bonus boating video. As we prepared for our trip to the Bahamas and the Caribbean and to live aboard our sailboat we fixed the galley sink. It was bad how it was held together. We had water leaking all over the inside of the cabinet. the boat project was to replace the sick drain with the proper parts and get it to stop leaking. it was a bit different to find a drain that fit. I wanted a metal drain not plastic, while made for a couple of stops shopping. finally we found a metal drain for a bar sink that was the right size, but did have the correct size hose Barb, so we found an adapter. then it was easy just put the drain in and presto change oh done. At our first stop we get eaten alive by man-eating flies known locally as Borrachudos! We flee to another anchorage and take some time to reflect on what it means to live and work on a sailboat. We get an awesome message from some locals that want to host us for our very first Brazilian Churrasco! Not knowing what is in store for us we arrive to find a fridge full of steaks, cold bear, and we proceed to have one hell of a party. Thanks guys! Costa Rica has so much to offer! Nice people, pretty beaches and beautiful and diverse nature and wildlife. We have to prepare a lot of things for the long sail to Hawaii but we squeeze in a break and go inland to one of Costa Ricas rainforests. We see wild animals and volcanoes, bath in hot rivers and watch an impressive waterfall. So we moved aboard our sailboat RAN, a custom built aluminium Beason 40, untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter and started to sail south along the coast of Europe. Cheers everyone! So here it is, my new solosailing adventure to the beautiful island of Fair Isle. Production vise, this is the biggest challenge Ive had until now. 2 weeks of sailing and shooting, over 570 NM logged. Then 4 weeks of editing. The sailing is the easy part, making the story is the hard one. But damn it feels good to be able to share my story with you this way. I want to give a special thanks to Brian Anderson, Ashley Stuart, Sigurd Utbjoe and April Pearson from Shetland for quickly getting me a new drone as my previous got smacked by a seagull on Fair Isle. Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘blar bar mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World.
