It took three years. Three years from the day Ryan texted me with that crazy idea: why not quit our jobs, buy a boat and go sail the world, and see where the winds take us! We had no idea how to sail, knew nothing about boats, and had only been dating for three months. I said yes, and the adventure began. On Tuesday the 5th of June 2018, three years later, we began our voyage on our boat, Polar Seal. We first sailed from Nacka to Nynäshamn, at the doors of Stockholm’s archipelago, before attempting to cross the Baltic from Nynäshamn to Bornholm. Sailing Stockholm’s archipelago always is a bit shaky. That day, we were sailing downwind, which is always a bit deceiving, as the winds get funneled between the islands and shifting in all directions. The day was a success, and we arrived in Nynäshamn without any issue. We wish we could say the same about our attempt to cross the Baltic between Nynäshamn and Bornholm the next day. As soon as we exited the harbor, the winds got uncomfortably high, blowing 30 knots straight to our face. We ended up battling against waves and decided to turn to a nearby anchorage to wait for some better weather. That’s the time my camera chose to fall in the cabin and our GPS/chart plotter broke. We made the decision to turn around, go back to port and ended up back in Nynäshamn. "Experience is what you get when you don't get what you wanted!" - Randy Pausch We set sails again on the next day, and made a successful, uneventful passage to Bornholm. Next: we are going to Kiel, where we will take the Kiel canal before crossing the North Sea. Right now, we are in Denmark, Rönne, adjusting to our new lifestyle and enjoying every bit of it. After completing today’s full five race schedule, the 13 crews returned ashore exhausted but exhilarated, with one point separating the podium. Star performer was Sebastien Schneiter’s Team Tilt. The 11 points they scored today compares with the 19 points of their nearest rival. 11th overall this morning, Team Tilt now leads, albeit on countback from Oman Air. On Lake Garda, the Schneiter family’s Team Tilt, managed by father Alex and steered by Olympic 49er sailor son Sébastien, was crowned first ever GC32 World Champion. Apart from a brief falter in the final race, the Swiss team over the last three days never finished a race lower than fourth, despite tricky conditions, a variety of race courses and wind strengths that Lake Garda threw at the 13 teams. The Anonimo Speed Challenge at the #GC32Worlds is a chance for the crews to push their boat to the limit, requiring maximum effort and focus, whilst the guest on board gets the ride of their life.

Views from the inside: step onboard each of our four Dazcats racing in the Round Britain and Ireland 2018 and see what it's really like to race offshore on a Dazcat, four different kinds of Dazcat in fact...Join the owners and their crews on board Hissy Fit (D1495); Sueños (D1195); Bare Necessities (D1150) & Belladonna (D10). Before they set off Dazcat Media presented each boat a lovely new camera and a set of SD cards with stamped addressed envelopes to post off to me at each stop. To be honest this felt just a little cheeky. Apart from Simon on board Hissy Fit (who is a Dazcat director so it's different) they are our customers and officially have no connection with Dazcat other than owning one, so no obligations at all to do what I asked of them. I also know that when racing fitting in time for filming is a challenge and can only imagine that's even harder when sailing two-up, so I was acutely aware of the possible implications of my request which all agreed to remarkably easily and affably. Timing of the camera delivery meant I only had time to check them out very quickly and set up two, leaving Belladonna and Hissy Fit to set up their own. Along with the SD cards and envelopes each boat got a hasitily compliled list of semi-instructions...though I confess that having taken a look at the confusing array of camera-to-boat attachment options that had come with (that I had ordered!) I decided to leave how they managed that to the discretion of the individual boats and they seem to have managed extremely well... Considering all the above I was uncertain what to expect back and was so very delighted and impressed by the superb footage that duly arrived. What struck me most on first viewing is how much each boat is loved! How much enjoyment, beauty, interest, challenge and comraderie is found in the Dazcats and the situations you find yourselves in with them. I'm just delighted that these four owners are happy to spread the joy (and the miseries)! So, to all the Dazcat owners and crews, thanks so much for taking the time to take and return this stunning footage. I hope it uploads in time for you to watch it as a reminder of what good racing is, after the miseries of leg 2 and before setting off on leg 3.... For all those others viewing, we hope you enjoy stepping into our world for a few moments and enjoy the Dazcat experience of the Round Britain and Ireland 2018
