From 0 to cruising full-time: Back to where our sailing adventure started! Three years ago, when Ryan and I had just met on Tinder and he came up with that crazy idea that we should quit our jobs and go sail the world, we had no idea what we were doing. Our friends more or less laughed at us when we first told them about our plans, and our ambitions raised a few eyebrows. But we had a plan, and that plan started by 1: learning how to sail. When asking ourselves: “how to learn how to sail”, we thought: “take a sailing course is a good start!”. With that in mind, we contacted a bunch of sailing schools around Europe. Only one responded, and it sounded good enough that in January 2016, we flew to Gibraltar for a two weeks sailing course. This week, we go back to where our sailing adventure started, to the very place where we learned how to sail: the Ocean Village marina in Gibraltar. This time, we sail our own boat! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ** MUSIC ** 🎶 In this video: Ashton Edminster - Break the Distance - https://thmatc.co/?l=9149A5AE ODESZA - Higher Ground (feat. Three years ago I never sailed on the open ocean. And here I am in the Mid-Atlantic 300NM off the coast of Africa between the Canary Islands and Cabo Verde. And that's where I'm going Cape Verde in Africa. In my trusty 37 year old Galopin. A 40ft Jeanneau SunFizz sailboat. I'm accompanied by Natacha, a French Comoran. We're an odd duo. Very different, but with a similar appetite to travel. We call ourselves modern nomads. And together we've decided to sail to West Africa beginning with Cabo Verde. An independent African nation archipelago consisting of ten islands. Then we hope to continue to Senegal, The Gambia, Guinée Bissau and who knows where else we'll venture. The Caribbean? Not yet. That's for tourists. We're adventurers. There is a fascinating continent on this side of the ocean that beckons us. Crossing the Newport Bar Tiny Ep.47 (Sailing w/ the Litzenbergers) We finish up our 250 nautical mile crossing from Neah Bay, Washington by crossing Newport's bar to anchor in the Yaquina river. Bar crossings are hairy, so this was a tad nerve wracking for the Ginger Co-Captain. Happy days. We leave sight of the city, for a long while. Although, it was quite sad saying goodbye to our new friends from Just Catamarans and some old ones we'd met in Colombia, years ago.

Welcome to Sardinia! We pick up two new crew members in the shape of Ben and Luke - Jackson's mates from back when he was part of the Miami University Sailing Team. The winds were howling which meant two things for us. Jackson got to realise his dream of launching his kite off the back of Avalon. And mucho sailing to be enjoyed! A strong mistral was forecast to build through the week so we had to cut our Sardinia stint short and make our 330 nautical mile passage to Ibiza earlier than planned. The sail was SENSATIONAL; we averaged 8 knots for the trip and arrived in Ibiza at 3am on a Saturday night, just in time to hit DE CLUUUUUBBBB. Thanks for watching guys. Monkey, camel, castles and caves -- from Gibraltar to Tangier -- this episode is colored in contrasts. We climb the rock of Gibraltar and drink a lot of their beer before braving the straights to take a bite of Africa. Tangier did not disappoint. On a side note, we want to thank all of you for your time. When we started making these videos, we were nervous about how they’d be received. As it turns out, we have grown a great deal from the experience and have made a lot of new friends from sharing it. On the charts we noticed there is a dinghy passage that goes from one side of the island to the other. We didn't get to check it out last time we were here, so we are really excited to check it out today! We found a large sandy area on the far end of the dinghy passage and decided to get out for a better look. When walking back to the dinghy, Kenzie sunk into the sand up to her thigh! She was terrified and grabbed onto the dinghy as quickly as she could. She was able to pull herself up out of the water, but lost her flip flop off her foot in the process. Moments later her flip flop popped up out of the water and we were able to retrieve it. After that she was scared of walking in the saturated sand and gained a fear for quicksand. If you are ever in The Bahamas, we highly recommend visiting Shroud Cay! The dinghy passage was awesome! It was so fun to motor through the maze of mangroves; it was like our own miniature river cruise. We recommend going at high tide though, so you won't have to walk as much as we did. After exploring more on Shroud Cay we pulled up anchor and sailed north to Highborne Cay for the night. Our plan is to sail to Rose Island and then make our way further north to the Abacos. We have about 4 1/2 weeks left in The Bahamas, and we are having an absolute blast! We can't wait to share with you want comes next! _____________________________________________________ MUSIC USED: "Changes" by: Nicolai Heidlas LINK: ~https://www.hooksounds.com/royalty-free-music/changes/796707/ ******************************************************** Affiliate links have been added to this description to help our viewers find products shown in our videos. “As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.” Thank you. ********************************************************

9] Sailing to Cherbourg, Exploring the City, and a New Dinghy and Outboard | Sailing Mutiny This is a jam-packed episode! Join us as we sail from Honfleur to Barfleur for an overnight stop in an anchorage before the swell forces us to leave and sail to Cherbourg on the French Coast. Cruising Northern France continues! We spent two weeks berthed in Port Chantereyne Cherbourg in Manche, Normandy. (Port de Plaisance de Cherbourg-Octeville). During our time in Cherbourg, we walked up to have a look around the Liberation Museum, celebrated both of our birthdays with raclette and had a tour of the surrounding area from Julien (our new friend!) where we took in Omonville and the smallest port in France; Port Racine. We also got ourselves a new dinghy and outboard as the ones that came with the boat needed replacing - we had lots of fun testing these out around the marina! My Mum came over for a flying visit, we found new ways to entertain ourselves onboard and treated ourselves to some folding bikes for our birthdays! This is the episode we've all been waiting for... what happened to PACMAN?!? Yes, our old centre console dinghy is sold, and we finally take possession of a new lighter, stronger dinghy made by Highfield Boats that has a double aluminum hull and a new Yamaha 25hp 4-stroke motor... this baby flies! Now we are ready for the start of new travels we've been dreaming about for the past years, and even have FKG Machine in St Martin rebuild out davits into a single lift arm on a single line, so one person can pull the dinghy out of the water with ease on one winch... AWESOME!!!! Hope you enjoy the video, this was a big day for us and all thanks to you guys.. thanks for your ongoing support in helping us make all these upgrades so we can continue moving forward to new travels and bring you guys the new content you've been waiting for.. .Much love from Team SSL!! Huge Rough Seas, Strong 30 knot winds on the nose, all makes a difficult up wind Offshore 400nm passage! https://www.sailingnandji.com This video is a in depth view of what life at sea is really like and the problems faced at all hours of the night. This week on Sailing Nandji, the time has come to depart the beautiful island of Wayag. The upwind passage of 400nm to the city of Ambon was no easy task. The strong trade winds however had been howling through the area for over a week and showed no sign of easing. We put on our PFDs and big boy pants and tackled the rough seas. With strong winds of 30 knots on the nose, it made for some challenging sailing at first. Then days into the passage, the wind disappears and we are left with our broken motor drifting at sea for days... NANDJI"S NEW MOTOR If you wish to contribute towards our campaign of getting Nandji a new engine in 2 months time, then please donate to the link below! Shhh my real name is Jarrad! Thanks for the help in making this project of ours a reality! https://www.paypal.me/SailingNandji We are a young couple with a dog, who with no sailing experience, bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing around the Pacific! We have been in Indonesia for a couple of months cruising and our now high tailing to Malaysia for boat work. We departed Australia 18 months ago and have since explored some amazing countries, met some amazing people and experienced cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of no where, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our life doing it! The adventure is just beginning as we sail West with the trades! Indian Ocean next! OPERATION DOG: We sail to the LOYALTY ISLAND called Ouvea where our followers have helped sponsor the DOG STERILIZATION PROGRAM. Guy Kane, the flying vet has loaded all his gear onto our beloved catamaran called IMPI and we become a mobile home, storage facility and restaurant for this amazing vet. We hope to show how a little can go a long way to making people happy on the islands and we hope to show that by sharing and caring our world is more about 'togetherness'. We try to show some scenes of the island and at a later date I will do a video based more on the attractions, the history and the people of this beautiful island which is referred to as : THE ISLAND THE CLOSEST TO PARADISE by Japanese author Katsura Morimura. Our captivity forced us out, exploring the area, meeting the locals and eating chocolate cake. When we got moving again we headed to the Sawa-I-Lau caves, where we got a real buzz from making it through to the much less visited third cave. A big pat on the back to Finn for having the courage to find the route in to the cave and then guiding us all in with him leading the way. What better way to round of The Atkins holiday then a day out at floating bar “Cloud 9”, buying expensive drinks and giving those balconies a good workout. This week we share how to select you Sea Anchor or your Drogue. But first I go into some technical details on how waves work in order for us to understand why and when we need a Sea Anchor and when we need a Drogue. What forces are acting on the anchors and the boat? What is the difference between Sea Anchor and a Drogue? Victor Shane's Drag Device Data Base - http://dragdevicedb.com/ Ocean Waves Basics - https://youtu.be/qogWcsW1eMg Largest and Best TSUNAMI compilation of Japan Tohoku earthquake 2011- https://youtu.be/S2ZOmMH4WHA With all the hurricanes and tsunamis discussion on Facebook, Sailing Channels, and Sailing forums, I just had to research this topic myself and this is what I found to fit my memory model the best. Like I said, a lot of controversy! Ask 20 sailors and you will get 40 opinions, heated debates, downright insults, and then 2000 coach sailors (like me) also want to throw in their 2c worth. So, this is how I sorted this in my mind. Thank you for all our subscribers!
