A Gulf Stream crossing to the Bahamas is a serious undertaking. It can be calm and uneventful, or it can be a life-threatening nightmare. The difference between the 2 usually comes down to having the patience to wait for a suitable weather window. We waited in No Name Harbor for nearly 2 weeks, and our weather window finally came to make the crossing. Light winds from the West, low swell with a long period between, and an early afternoon arrival stacks the odds in our favor. To make it all happen, we depart No Name Harbor at 4am, steer our little sailboat East, and head out into the open ocean. It's an odd thing to head out into the ocean in the dark, but in order to arrive at Bimini at mid-day, that's what has to be done. It's important to have ample daylight once you arrive in order to safely navigate around reef and coral heads. It feels SO GOOD to finally be in the islands again. In this video, BuzzFeed producer Erin Phraner shares a recipe for easy homemade teething biscuits. This healthy recipe is all-natural, gluten-free and only 5 ingredients. Perfect for teething babies! Her daughter Charlotte LOVES these simple treats as a part of her baby-led weaning routine. Interested in making your own baby food? Give this recipe a try... HEALTHY HOMEMADE TEETHING BISCUITS MAKES: about 6 large biscuits 2 cups baby oatmeal 1 mashed banana 1 teaspoon organic ground cinnamon 2 tablespoons melted coconut oil 4 tablespoons water 1. Preheat the oven to 425˚F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. 2. Mix all of the ingredients in a medium bowl using your hands until the dough is squishy and sticks together when pressed between your fingers. 3. Pat or roll the mixture out to about 1/4" thick on a cutting board. Cut into sticks or use a cookie cutter to make shapes (you want them to be as solid as possible, so avoid intricate cutters). 4. Bake 15 minutes or until golden, then turn off the oven and let harden in there for about 20 more minutes. The longer they sit the harder they'll get, so sometimes I leave them in even longer if I let some of the hot air out first. 5. Store in an air-tight container up to 1 week or in the freezer up to 3 months. Recipe note: Always watch your little one when they're chewing on a teething biscuit, once they mush it down, it's possible that they can bite off a chunk so you just want to make sure you're paying attention—don't give it to them and then walk away! What do you do all day? A Hectic Week in Ha'apai We are often asked what we do all day onboard Double Trouble. It kind of depends if we are on passage or on anchor, but after two years of living onboard, we haven't had a dull day yet! In this particular week, we spend time exploring the golden sand beaches and palm tree lined tropical islands of the Ha'apai group. Kayaking, paddle boarding and hiking keep us out of mischief. We visit customs to complete our check in and visit the local markets. We attend a church service and chat with the locals. Darren the drone also gets his first flight and Rob tries his hand at coconut shucking. We provide medical supplies to a fellow cruiser and still manage to fit in some socialising and a birthday celebration. Russian blini. Traditional Russian dish, especially eaten during the Maslenitsa (spring festival in Russia). Every family has their own recipe for Russian pancakes (blini). I want to share my family recipe for pancakes which always come out great. (link for video recipe in comments) There are only 3 ingredients: flour, milk, and eggs - A very simple recipe and quite difficult to mess up. There’s no reason you shouldn’t treat yourself with blinis. You can eat them for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and never get tired of them. The possibilities are endless. Fill Russian pancakes with sweet or savory fillings and enjoy:) they’re so tasty and versatile they absolutely need to be shared with the world! Sweet and Savoury Fillings for Blini * fried minced meat with onion * cheese * ham * fried mushrooms * caviar * smoked salmon and serve with sour cream or cream cheese. Perhaps you have a sweet tooth that needs to be satisfied? Try out any (or all) of the following: * your favorite jams, * chocolate cream or Nutella * condensed milk * berries * honey * sweetened cottage cheese with raisins * fried apples and cinnamon * or any other sweet. Be creative:) Russian pancakes are a traditional weekend breakfast food in Russia and are also often eaten with tea as a snack or a dessert. They are probably unlike any other kind of pancakes you’ve had before. They differ from French crepes since they are slightly thicker, but about the same in diameter and they're different from American-style pancakes since they are much thinner and wider. It comes from an old Slavic tradition to worship the beginning of spring with pancakes, symbolizing the Sun. It was even adopted by the Orthodox church. Maslenitsa lasts for a week. You are supposed to make and eat tons of pancakes during that time. Wherever I am in the world, I celebrate this week. It would feel outright wrong if I didn’t! According to the charts the water around Bora Bora were to shallow for us but we wanted to go to the other side to snorkel so we tried anyway.The tiny passage into Maupihaa was scary! 1 knots one way, 11 knots the other way but we made it and we loved that atoll. The sixth episode of my Adventure to learn to ride a foil board! A hydrofoil kiteboard video series, starting from no experience on foil boards at all, up to hopefully gybing and tacking along!!
