Today's vlog: It is our 6th wedding anniversary! And we celebrate it on an uninhabited island :) To us that was the best way to celebrate it in corona time. Yess we are doing a GIVEAWAY!! Since many countries are closed we don't know where we will be allowed to go on land again, but we can survive 4 month without seeing anybody :) This journey is only a small part of our trip that started 2 years ago. In this episode of the Art of Boat Building the last plank is installed on the Haven 12 1/2. This shear strake plank is referred to as the Whiskey Plank. The Whiskey Plank is the final plank required to complete the outer shell of a wooden hull. This is considered to be a major milestone in the construction of a wooden yacht. Before the Whiskey Plank could be attached however, it needed to be spiled. Spiling is the art of determining the precise shape that a plank needs to be to fit into a particular space. This is the beginning of our journey. Following the advice of many that came before me, we have adjusted our dream so instead of waiting to buy a catamaran, we have decided to buy a smaller monohull #sailboat and get going with our own adventure. Life is very short and after everything we have see with Covid-19, we prefer to take our chances at sea enjoying our life than risking not been able to fulfill our dreams. We purchased this 1985 Pearson 34 Sailboat. It has good bones but it needs a lot of #restoration . This is the video of the day we bought our #boat We purchased her for $1000. It was full of household appliances that have no place on a boat, so we have a lot of clean up ahead of us. As we are on the second have of our life's adventure, we have to do a good job balancing what we can do vs what we should have someone do. So as much as I would like to do the whole refit myself, we will be looking at each project to see how to best execute the refit to balance time and money spend to get us out cruising as quickly as possible. Our previous owner liked to have all the comforts of home on the #sailboat , the only challenge is that none of it was wired to the panel instead, he ran extension cords to household appliances (i.e. a refrigerator, air conditioner, ice maker, a rigged up car charger connected to a water pump, etc.). La compagnia delle Derive Fitzcarraldo diventa Scuola di Vela Flying Junior, e l’auspicio è che a questa iniziativa possano aggiungersene tante altre, soprattutto nelle zone dove il Flying Junior ha radici profonde: La Liguria, il lago di Bracciano, la riviera Marchigiana e quella Toscana. Artists pay tribute to the pregnant elephant who died due to someone stuffing a pineapple with fireworks. A pregnant elephant died in Kerala, India, of excruciating pain after it bit into a pineapple filled with firecrackers. The explosives went off in her mouth, damaging her jaw grievously. The farmers are known to put fireworks inside the food and plant it on the edges of their fields to keep away wild animals. The elephant's tongue and mouth were so badly injured, she wasn't able to eat. Eventually after few days, she died. Officials took her back to the forest in a truck and cremated her there. This Island is now almost back in business, and the only challenge now is the hurricane season is getting close. I have made my decision on where to sail next, and also future plans.
