Our longest passage to date was roughly 16 hours, and we were about to leapfrog that to lay down 200+ nautical miles in 48 hours. That means sleeping in 3 hour shifts, with someone always at the helm, and navigating waters in complete darkness. This adventure starts in the city of Saint Mary's, GA. Here, we stopped to explore the historic town and stock up on essentials for our first overnight sail. Along the way we enountered a friendly pod of Spotted Atlantic Dolphins and a strange brewing storm, before peacefully cruising in to Bald Head Island, NC after 48 hours at sea. Quotation in US for Southbound vessels $: - Canal dues: 330 (this fee is lower for northbound vessels) - Agent fees: 70 - port clearance 70 - immigration formalities 20 - quarantaine doctor 10 Total 500 US $ Extra costs: - Marina fee suez 2x 21 $ - Visa's 2x 25$ - camera transport by navy 45 $ - marina fee Ismailia 21$ (when you pay in Egyptian pound here its more) - Marina fee Suez 21 $ - Formality check suez 35 $ (just for a 3 seconds look at the passport you pay this fee :0 ) Why you shouldn't get a visa in suez channel? - you can transit the channel without - you don't need it to anchor in Egyptian waters - It creates problems when you are in a Egyptian marina later - it costs more in the end because you will need to pay 30$ later for each month that you had a visa - it's a gov. admin. fee. We planned to head here for a quick visit to provision for the coming months and the Indian Ocean crossing as Langkawi is a tax free island and much cheaper than Thailand. Between Krabi where we left from and Langkawi our destination, we need to travel past the islands where we nearly lost Nandji. That horrific bight where a mooring we were on broke and Nandji ended up on the reef. We are only fresh out of the boatyard after completing extensive repairs and why not face our fears straight away and return to where it all went wrong. We have got unfinished business with a reef and it is time to settle the score and move onto the next chapter! We now have a new challenge, the Covid crisis to deal with!! With no sailing experience, we bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off from Australia sailing to the Pacific! We have since cruised through New Caledonia, Vanuatu, the Solomon islands, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and then onto the boat yard in Malaysia to prepare for the years to come. With a new engine, we continued onto Thailand, then back down into Indonesia and specifically West Sumatra to live the island life and chase the surf. With our Sailing plans changing, we returned to Thailand to wait for the weather and begin our journey to the northern route of the Indian Ocean to Sri Lanka before heading south across the Indian Ocean once cyclone season has finished and the trade winds begin! We were on our shake down sail when the mooring we were on failed on our home ended up on the reef. We saved the old girl and got her back to the boat yard for repairs to continue on our adventure! We departed the east coast of Australia in July 2017 and have since sailed over 10000nm offshore. We have explored some amazing countries and met some beautiful people along the way. We have experienced so many different and diverse cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our lives doing it! We spend a few days installing our new Isotherm Cruise 130 fridge which the full installation can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S9kUy-ZEoh4. We then set about trying to fill our fridge using tips from a local fisherman that Adam has become friendly with. We grab some rocks, line, bait and beer and set out to catch some fish drop lining. A few days later, instead of nabbing a huge fish, we catch something entirely unexpected. Being a bit too impatient to wait for the fish to come to us, we head to a local fisherman to buy some ourselves and cook it up on the barbie that afternoon. We hope you enjoy! Ten years ago, before kids, we sailed a Lagoon 380 named "Honeymoon" halfway around the world to Sydney, Australia. OUR BOAT is a Ferrari red Outremer 51 performance cruising catamaran. We chose this boat as it has been specifically designed for the purpose of bluewater sailing. We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, two years after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted.
