In this episode, we depart the Dana Point anchorage and head to Avalon, Catalina Island. Unfortunately, no moorings are available. Plan B is to pick up a mooring in the White Cove/Moonstone/Hen Rock area. Again, no moorings. After mumbling a few explitives, I decide to sail back to San Pedro. We are Jo and Rob and we are here to share our sailing adventures with you. In 2016, inspired by the likes of ‘Delos’, ‘Sailing La Vagabonde’ and ‘Gone with The Wynns’, we sold up everything we owned and bought our 40ft, Fountaine Pajot ‘Lipari 41 Evo’ sailing catamaran ‘Double Trouble’. We had no sailing experience whatsoever, so the past few years have been a huge learning curve. We thought it might be fun to document our travels for anyone thinking of following a similar lifestyle. So far we have visited 7 different countries and sailed over 13,000 nautical miles. We have had many unique experiences that would not have been possible in our prior life and we don’t regret a second. We're both super keen on protecting our precious environment, so amongst other things, we both follow a plant based diet. You wont find any fishing footage on this channel! Subscribe now and join us as we continue our salty travels around the world. https://www.youtube.com/c/SailingDoubleTrouble?sub_confirmation=1 👏Credits: Thanks to 'Shure ' microphones for voiceover sound. 🎼Music: DT Theme tune - 'Happy' by MBB https://soundcloud.com/mbbofficial Creative Commons — Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported — CC BY-SA 3.0 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/b... When things turn SOUTH! Last week we left you in the middle of our sail from St. Croix to St. Vincent as we were out running a storm that was projected to become a hurricane. The first couple of days the sail down was a dream. The perfect wind, the perfect wave, perfect night watches, all around perfect conditions. But as the storm started to approach closer and pass JUST north of us, it brought with it some rough wind and waves. Things start to turn south when our engine stops working, we rip a sail and get delayed getting into our anchorage by the wind direction. big love, beau, brandy, and our salty dog, oona #sailing #sailingoffshore #hurricaneseason --------------------------------------------------------------------------- -HELP SUPPORT THE PRODUCTION- Join our Patreon: http://bit.ly/BB-Patreon One time Donation: http://bit.ly/one-time-donation-bb Be sure you are Subscribed: https://www.youtube.com/c/sailingsaoirse -GRAB YOUR SWAG- https://www.bonfire.com/store/beau-and-brandy-sailing/ -MUSIC- Epidemic Sound is where we find all of our music. 30 day free trial: https://www.epidemicsound.com/referral/mxtzxe/ -LETS BE SOCIAL- Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/beauandbrandy Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sailingsaoirse -OUR GEAR WE- main camera: https://amzn.to/2lm2bSY go pro camera: https://amzn.to/2JMXRoa backup camera: https://amzn.to/2l8e3ry electric setup*: controller: https://amzn.to/2lm7hP7 panels: https://amzn.to/2jUoONN electric motor: https://amzn.to/2ZnLfvN motor controller: https://amzn.to/3getpSw ____________________________________ *This channel is a participant in the Amazon Affiliate Program. Some viewers have asked for a very basic first step in sailing so here it is! Youngest daughter Millie is out sailing with us in Croatia at the moment and for the first time decided she needed a sailing lesson incase we all fall overboard and she has to sail herself! So this starts from heading out from the anchorage, getting the sails up and setting them to the conditions we had (light breeze from the back quarter) Those were not the conditions we had when we arrived in Croatia however. A massive thunderstorm and 50 knots winds greeted us sailing into Dubrovnik! So look out for that in Episode 26!!
We cover a few questions in this week's Q&A: 00.45 - How do you find good internet while sailing the Caribbean? 2.33 - Have we upped our camera game? 4.09 - If we had just enough cash, what fun and seaworthy projects would we do on the boat? 6.43 - How much sex is had on boat? 7.25 - How did we shop for our boat? Where did we look? 10.22 - How do you register an overseas boat in Australia? 12.46 - Would we suggest buying a blue water boat for sailing in Bahamas? 16.21- How do you get more sailing experience for someone who’s never sailed? 18.04 - How much did it cost to remove teak decks and what was involved? 20.41 - How do we mount our solar panels on the guard rails? Marijke got second thoughts about the rotating mast so we decide to dive in a little deeper to find out whether or not it's worth the additional investment and added complexity for our situation. In the meantime we dusted off our Rival 34 from 1979 to prepare her for an after season cruise later this year.

We love sailing the clear turquoise blue water of the lagoon In New Caledonia, which are teeming with sea creatures. The many islets that surround Noumea are nature reserves. No harm will befall the turtles that swim in these waters, so they have become very chilled and accepting of human attention. We enjoyed checking out the reef sharks and abundance of sea snakes that make Amedee Island their home. We even spot a funny new turtle. Rob also proves he doesn’t just eat plankton and noni sandwiches. In this episode he tucks into a delicious chocolate éclair, a treat for the palaver that was checking out of Noumea customs. In 1997, after a disastrous Olympic rowing campaign, Rob decided to row a seven-metre plywood boat, 2500 miles from Tenerife in the Canary Islands to Barbados in the Caribbean. It took 6 weeks and he and his rowing partner, Phil Stubbs, won the inaugural Atlantic Rowing Race. Skip forward to 2014, we invested in Javelot a 43 ft Fountaine Pajot catamaran. Armed only with Robert's 3 years of racing P class yachts from the age of 11 to 13, and Rachel's non existent sailing knowledge, we set off to learn the ropes of ocean sailing. We broke stuff, replaced stuff and got to know our boat before heading offshore with our three children, Finn 17, Declan 15 and Ivan 12, in tow. Through trial and error, we have become confident wayfarers, kind of. Our plan? To sail around the world, meet the locals and record our adventures. Learning the art of photography and editing as we go. Part of the journey will be retracing Rob’s eldest brother Kerry’s travels at sea. Using Kerry’s original letters from the 1970’s we will re trace his movements from Australia through Indonesia and South East Asia to Cambodia where Kerry’s life was cut short after straying into Cambodian waters in 1978. Kerry and two friends were attacked by a Khmer Rouge gun boat, captured, tortured and executed. ***** Follow us in real time on Instagram and Facebook @thecruisingkiwis @finn_hamill @declan_hamill #NeverStopWanderingNeverStopWondering. #TheCruisingKiwis

During his time away from work, Jamie lived on board and cruised South East Asia. One of his life dreams is to sail around the world. His plans came together at the end of 2018 when he met a Filipina lounge singer in China. Princess was yearning for a vacation since she had been working many years to support her family. Finally, her siblings got their own jobs and she decided to join Jamie on Jupiter² and go sailing. It was a wild decision for her because she had never sailed before. For the first time, they sail for two weeks around Phuket, Thailand. She began to see what Jamie love about the sea. They both resigned from their jobs in early 2019 and began cruising full time. Hopefully some inspiration to "Quit Job and Go Sailing".

It can feel lonely, left out & down right depressing just going through our daily routines & catching any spare time the kids would have for us. Well, we decided to do something about that, we set off on a journey around Australia in our RV until karma had other plans. Our lives took a different direction after this, which allowed us to grab a lifetime dream that we didn’t think was ever possible but in reality, it was. Please join two boomers as we embark on our new chapter & how we manage life & family from our MacIntosh 47’ sailboat heading home to Australia.

Some days are tougher than others... what helps when anxiety or stress takes over? Have you ever been "forced" to be apart from your loved one? My emotions run wild these days - I just hate it when there is problems that I myself can't possibly fix. The fact is the world won't ever let you be "independent"... kind of... and as for me, being one that have tried to always DO the things I want the last few years, just hate it when I run out of options. At least I'm almost out of quarantine! xoxo, Therese & Cody A Sailing (and currently also Land Based) V-Log
