Episode 147: Rickys butt was itching to go for a dive so we mustered up the courage to go diving and when I say we I actually mean Ricky. 😂 The coolest part about it all is that we found baby octopus. Having heard how difficult it is to actually find them we felt pretty happy to finally see these cute babies. But with play comes some work which meant we had to get some boat tasks done while Russel and my mom were here. Task number one is to run some pvc piping on our life lines where it started chafing on our sail down from Port Elizabeth. Then replace our winch with a self tailing one to make it a bit easier to raise our sails. It's definitely going to be a worthy investment in the long run. See ya next week!! ✍️13 octobre, le temps commence à changer, d’après les locaux, nous sommes dans la transition de mousson, là où le Matilaï, un vent un peu désordonné remplace progressivement le Kusi, le vent de Sud-Ouest. Tout cela s’annonce de bons augures pour redescendre vers l’Afrique du sud, ceux-ci dit, depuis notre retour à Mtwara, aucunes fenêtres ne s’ouvrent pour les prochains jours ! La bonne chose s’est que nous avons pu parcourir les quatre cent milles qui nous séparaient du nord au sud de la Tanzanie, sans trop nous faire secouer. Mais il n’y a pas de secret, tout ça, est en grande partie grâce à la prévenance de mon capitaine, car ayant déjà le courant de face, pour ne pas nous risquer à affronter aussi un vent contraire, mon Tchoupi a choisi le moment opportun avec peu de brise, voir sans bise du tout pour traverser en toute sécurité. Si l’option a bien été réfléchit, elle n’en restait pas moins une préoccupation permanente pour mon skipper qui éprouve une sorte d’accoutumance à la méfiance pour ses propulseurs ! Son appréciation soupçonneuse qui date de tout temps, n’est pas sans fondement car sur ce genre d’engin, la panne subite arrive comme l’adjectif l’indique, subitement, et forcement quand nous en avons besoin, sinon cela ne serait pas drôle ! Et pour mon tendre amour, ce comportement ne peut être digne de confiance ! En se basant sur ce raisonnement, quand il y a démission de l’un d’entre eux, la fatalité sans être réjouissante est accusée avec certes un peu de contrariété mais moins d’irritation et d’abattement ! Partis donc avec peu de vent, et malgré la grande coopération de notre spi, quand le Blacky s’est mis à bouchonner, en toutes connaissances de cause, Cyril a activé les pistons ! Illusionnés par le dévouement des premières heures, nous avancions, confiants, le long de la côte Tanzanienne, quand d’un seul coup d’un seul, sans préavis, un bruit de casserole nous a sortie de notre potentielle foi en l’énergie motrice ! Nous venions en moins de temps qu’il en faut pour tourner une clé, de perdre toutes les facultés de notre moteur tribord ! Vous allez me dire, nous en avons un deuxième, mais ce n’est pas vraiment une consolation ! En fait, quand on sait que nous sommes la plupart du temps autonomes avec nos voiles, se savoir à la merci d’un mécanisme incertain est rageant. Dans le cas présent, les alternatives étant amoindries à l’unique désignation du moteur bâbord pour continuer à avancer, nous pouvions mêler à notre sort, une invocation à Ergané, déesse de la mécanique ! Dans cette situation peut confortable, il semble que notre appel ait attiré l’attention de Njörd, qui certainement, sensible à notre optimisme et notre persévérance, pour nous soutenir dans cette impasse, a mis sur notre trace un empereur des mers ! Je ne vois pas d’autre explication ! Seule une divinité peut être à l’origine d’une telle prise, à trois nœuds et dans vingt mètres de fond, à moins que cela soit le super leurre Colgate de fabrication artisanale de mon capitaine qui ait attiré avec intérêt ce superbe espadon voilier de plus de trente kilos ! Accommodés à notre imprévu, nous sommes, sans casse supplémentaire arrivés dans la baie de Mikindani, rassurés et soulagés d’être rendu au point de transit de notre nouvelle aventure vers l’Afrique du Sud. Toutefois, avant de pouvoir imaginer un départ vers la Rainbow nation, nous devions à l’évidence, réparer… Et réparer avec les moyens du bord ! Voici, une expression qui prend tout son sens en bateau ! Nous devons, avec les ressources dont nous disposons, trouver la solution pour remédier, non pas à un problème mais à quatre ! Parce que dans son déséquilibre marasme, notre inconstant n’a pas fait les choses à moitié, tant qu’a faire, il a mis toute son énergie à s’auto-mutiler. Résultat, un arbre cranté usé, un damper disloquer, une flasque brisée et un silent bloc désagrégé. Mais nous n’allons pas nous laisser abattre et mon audacieux mécanicien avec plus d’un tour dans sac va nous dépatouiller en quelques ruses subtiles de cette mauvaise passe ! Délivrés de nos ennuis techniques, la formalité de renouveler nos visas n’est plus qu’une simple démarche et nous pouvons enfin profiter de notre dernière escale Tanzanienne….

This episode, Michael and Mignonne join us in Townsville and we sail north. We visit Orpheus Island to see the clam gardens, which were planted in the 1980s, the garden is now populated by several hundred clams each weighing 150 – 200 kilograms. After waiting for the tide to come in we get to see them squirting water creating quite a view. We move around to nearby small uninhabited island Fantome Island to view the ruins from the 1928 lock hospital, and the leper colony which was present from 1939 to 1973.

In fact, there were seventeen races run today for a total of four flights completed. At the end of the day’s racing the Spanish team from the Club Náutico Arrecife is just one point ahead of the German team from the Segel- und Motorboot Club Überlingen, who are currently placed second. The Italian team from Aeronautica Militare is currently in third place.
