Magnus heads out the back of our block to clear the track and ends up stuck in a ditch which wasn’t there the last time we were back at the farm pre Cyclone Debbie! He continues the work on Nutshell’s Volvo engine’s exhaust outlet. More components for the Raspberry Pi finally arrive. We are now very close to having it fully operational! There’s a new antenna to build for it next. The helmsman’s seat gets a makeover. Thanks for watching and following along with our adventures. Keep safe everyone. Until next time. Making these little struts was QUITE the lengthy time, ffeewww! 😲 They will be mostly fairly inconspicuous, BUT, for me it was (and will be ahead) worth spending the time getting these Rosewood technical woodwork pieces made up 😁 There were many reasons why, but the work stopped,... A huge thank you to those who help keep our boat afloat by supporting our creative process via Patreon. You can be part of the crew for less than the price of a coffee. https://www.patreon.com/CruisingKiwis Sailing into another storm We can't believe we have sailed in to another lightning storm., especially after the lightning strike has left Javelot, our beautiful but now energy dependent catamaran, depleted. So while we wait to haul out for repairs in the New Year, we are transferring to Tangalooma Island Resort on Moreton Island to stay in a friends apartment for a few weeks. While there we check out the ship wrecks, the desert and circumnavigate the island in a 4WD. Music Luna Keller – I don’t know where I’m going Leucadia – Always home instrumental -Musicbed.com Leucadia – Always home - Musicbed.com David Mumford – Ball and chain - Creative commons music WHO ARE WE? In 1997, after a disastrous Olympic rowing campaign, Rob decided to row a seven-metre plywood boat, 2500 miles from Tenerife in the Canary Islands to Barbados in the Caribbean. It took 6 weeks and he and his rowing partner, Phil Stubbs, won the inaugural Atlantic Rowing Race. Skip forward to 2014, we invested in Javelot a 43 ft Fountaine Pajot catamaran. Armed only with Robert's 3 years of racing P class yachts from the age of 11 to 13, and Rachel's non existent sailing knowledge, we set off to learn the ropes of ocean sailing. We broke stuff, replaced stuff and got to know our boat before heading offshore with our three children, Finn 17, Declan 15 and Ivan 12, in tow. Through trial and error, we have become confident wayfarers, kind of. Our plan? To sail around the world, meet the locals and record our adventures. Part of the journey will be retracing Rob’s eldest brother Kerry’s travels at sea. Using Kerry’s original letters from the 1970’s we will re trace his movements from Australia through Indonesia and South East Asia to Cambodia where Kerry’s life was cut short after straying into Cambodian waters in 1978. Kerry and two friends were attacked by a Khmer Rouge gun boat, captured, tortured and executed. ***** Follow us in real time on Instagram and Facebook @thecruisingkiwis @finn_hamill @declan_hamill #NeverStopWanderingNeverStopWondering. #TheCruisingKiwis

During his time away from work, Jamie lived on board and cruised South East Asia. One of his life dreams is to sail around the world. His plans came together at the end of 2018 when he met a Filipina lounge singer in China. Princess was yearning for a vacation since she had been working many years to support her family. Finally, her siblings got their own jobs and she decided to join Jamie on Jupiter² and go sailing. It was a wild decision for her because she had never sailed before. Jupiter² was built in the Philippines by an Australian designer for Jamie. During his time away from work, Jamie lived on board and cruised South East Asia. But his life dream is to sail around the world. His plans came together at the end of 2018 when he met a Filipina lounge singer in China, where they were both working. Princess was yearning for a vacation since she had been working many years to support her family. Finally, her siblings got their own jobs and she decided to join Jamie on Jupiter² and go sailing. It was a wild decision for her because she had never sailed before. For the first time, they sail for two weeks around Phuket, Thailand. She began to see what Jamie loved about the sea. They both resigned from their jobs in early 2019 and began cruising full time. When locked down in Cape Town South Africa we had the spare time to start putting together some videos that we wanted to share with our family and friends. Cruising the world and life onboard, is pretty difficult to describe to people verbally. Making videos about this lifestyle help them understand why we love it. This was the beginning of our sailing channel. The early footage was never intended to entertain, or enlighten, so the early vids are a bit of a patchwork. From South Africa onwards, we actually started filming with intent. Although with only the bare equipment, namely an iPhone and a go pro. We would love to get some better gear to improve our production quality, but due to planet Earth still being in lockdown and our cruising in remote locations, we’ve been unable to even buy a tripod! Soon, we hope. Jamie has spent decades working towards this dream of cruising around the world on a sailboat. However, it was not his only dream. Whilst being raised by a single mum on a single parents pension he would dream of becoming an astronaut! After finishing high school, and realising there is very limited opportunities for space travel growing up in country Australia (whom have no space program!), he got his first job in a factory, and focused his energy on the next best thing….. Flying. After a chance joy flight with a friend, Jamie found a new passion and with his factory job, managed to pay for one flying lesson per week. After 6 years he had all the qualifications to fly professionally. However, finding that first job is the real challenge. That came in the outback Australian township of Mt Isa, starting out on a four seater, Cessna 172 flying teachers, doctors, politicians and local aboriginals to wherever they needed to go. His career now spans nearly 30 years and having flown and commanded both Boeing and Airbus heavy jets around the world he now had the chance to fulfil his sailing dreams. He found the right design vessel, had it built and saved up a kitty. He also found the right girl! Finally it was time. UNTIE THE LINES I hope that our videos inspire other dreamers to reach out, focus and obtain your dreams. Hopefully some inspiration to "Quit Job and Go Sailing". Life is not supposed to be about just getting by. I find it ridiculous to spend your life paying off a mortgage just so that at the end of if, you have somewhere to live. You’ve only got one shot at it, as far as I can tell…. so make it special. Dream big. Live in the “now”. Make every moment count…. towards your dreams We’d love it if you give us the thumbs and SUBSCRIBE. Cheers 🥂 Wants to support our production?

In kleinen Schritten.
