Sailing over to Lembongan last week was a nice fast trip and the one back over to Lombok turned out to be just as fun. Before sailing back though we did rent a scooter and check out the two little islands. Most of the locals are normally earning their money from the tourism industry but for a year now they have had almost zero tourists coming over from Bali so many of them have returned to harvesting seaweed. It was pretty interesting to see how all this works and cool to witness the locals doing what they need to survive while still remaining happy and positive. Is our 78HP engine strong enough to tow another sailboat? This is the question we asked ourselves when our buddy boat Calico Skies stopped dead in their tracks. Unable to run their engine - with no wind, deep water and a big swell running we couldn't leave them at the mercy of the tides and currents. So we did something we’ve never done before. This force cracked the internal grid in several places and broke a portion of the grid free from hull. At some point an inspection was done, insurance was called and decisions were made. Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V770 with a Rode External mic. My old camera is now my number 2 is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. #reviews #cleaningboats We bought this product from the chandlery in Portugal; Starbrite Non-Skid Deck Cleaner. Quite honestly it really did not come up to expectations for cleaning. Also the cap broke off on the first application. I am a fan of Starbrite products but this one I would not recommend. If you have had experience of this product please leave your comments below. We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, two years after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. Fishing and Free Diving for Lobster in South Florida | Harbors Unknown Ep. 16 This week we had a lot of fun out on the water! They were hoping to catch swordfish and mahi mahi. They landed quite a few mahi but the swordfish were elusive that day. Though, swordfishing is a sport of skill and odds. Two days later Mino + Drew caught a huge swordfish! A few days later we met Mino and his friend Willy out on the water and went free diving for spiny lobster. Mino + Willy were successful but we came up empty handed. Oh well, that's what happens to beginners. At least we have friends who can catch fish + lobster! That night we made a delicious lobster ceviche. It was the perfect ending to an amazing weekend! In this installment we get finish the rudder moulds for our new rudders and Shayne gets a bit excited about a discovery which is potentially our answer to how we can build the winglets on the rudders. In addition to the professional help building our rudders, we have another good friend making spectra strops for our sidestays. As many of you would already know, we took an old Team New Zealand America's Cup rig which was destined for the rubbish and made a new rotating wing mast for our Catana catamaran. https://youtu.be/U6hi4liqh80 To save on cost, we kept the original wire sidestays and forestay. As the mast section we used was so strong, there was no need to add spreaders but after sailing a few times with our new square top mainsail (which Anna made from an old 72ft superyacht delivery main) https://youtu.be/4KnVA8-n3D8 we decided to add some aramid lowers to strengthen the mid section of the mast. The spectra loops we make in this video are to be used to attach the wire sidestays to the mast. We finally get to have a look at what the new rudders look like when Kent glues the first one on and Paikea starts to look a bit more modern when we get the primer on the hull. Le caratteristiche degli sport velici, su imbarcazioni a vela d’altura, bene si adattano all’inserimento di utenti con disabilità psichiche. Si tratta infatti di impegni fisici leggeri, sopportabili da persone non allenate, sempre condotti in gruppo sfruttando la solidarietà di squadra, la condivisione dei medesimi obiettivi.
