The wind increased on the morning of the forth day, and I began to approach hull speed despite having 1 panel of the foresail still reefed. Later that day the wind dies back down to under 25 knots and I do some checks on the rigging. Although the size of the waves isn't clear on camera, there are online resources that will let you calculate it based on the percentage of white-capped waves. Most were around 3.5 meters, though I think I got one of the 4 meter waves on camera. I will release a short "Just Sailing" video from this day soon, with no music. We shipwrecked our electric sailboat one day after setting sail off the coast of Rhode Island, it was devastating. This is the story of how not to sail south for winter! After a season of finishing projects on our electric sailboat, it was time to begin our journey sailing south to Florida. Fresh off his birthday, it was a 30th Birthday adventure for Jake! One that wouldn’t be forgotten. After bobbing around all night in the cold, and Jake got seasick for the first time, it was decided to anchor for the night, and turn around. All three sailors agreed it was what was best for the crew. The night reached its climax, and our sailboat ran aground. We had officially had a wrecked electric sailboat, and a dramatic ending to our first season on youtube. There's been YET ANOTHER DELAY with our container, so we've decided to do some sailing in Florida instead. Due to bad weather, our container did not leave Vietnam on January 3rd, as we had originally anticipated. Instead there were a number of delays, ships stuck in harbour due to bad weather, and we did not get confirmation of her departure until January 21st. This gives it an approximate arrival date in New York on February 21st. So what are we doing with this extra time? Delivering a boat from Savannah Georgia to Boca Raton Florida. This is better than a regular delivery though, because the boat belongs to our good friend Jeff, and he was by our side for the entire ride. Plus, now we know exactly what the fuss over Catalinas is. This 36 Mk II is a wonderful cruiser for 2 people, and has been so easy to handle. We're going to enjoy this warm weather while we have it, but soon enough we'll be back in Annapolis, making all the final arrangements for our catamaran to arrive! A Day Sail on Our Seawind 1600 Catamaran + Testing the Gori Propeller | Harbors Unknown Ep. 17 The dawn of a new day. New possibility, new experiences. We begin each day anew with the opportunity to make it the best day yet. We were untying the lines to head out for a day sail along the Fort Lauderdale coast on our Seawind 1600 catamaran. We also wanted to test the Gori folding propeller and understand the difference in performance between regular mode and overdrive mode. Documenting our time here in Ft. Lauderdale has given me a new appreciation for the city. We are so lucky to be here right now. With the intercoastal, the canals and the ocean, it’s such a beautiful, small city and wonderful backyard to play in. Our boat has a Gori Folding Propeller with a special overdrive mode. We are going to compare the gori propeller performance in regular mode and overdrive mode at 3 different rpm’s; 1500, 1700 and 2,000. To go into overdrive mode put the boat in neutral, then reverse and the boat must actually move in reverse through the water then shift into forward. We found a speed increase of half to one knot plus reduced vibration, engine noise, and fuel consumption. Luckily the wind picked up a bit and we were able to practice some sail trimming on a beautiful sunset sail. Terwijl we door de Archipelzee in Finland varen merken we dat het zeilseizoen een beetje voorbij is en dat het weer onstuimiger wordt. Het ene moment zitten we heerlijk op onze ankerplek in de zon aan de ochtendkoffie en momenten later trotseren we een frisse buien. En de omgeving wordt er alleen maar mooier van. We genieten volop van de rust en de natuur in dit prachtige land. Wij zijn Ben en Felia. Jaren hebben wij de droom gehad om samen over de wereld te zeilen. In mei 2020 zijn we aan dit grote avontuur begonnen. In onze Atlantic43, Eva genaamd, gaan wij waar de wind ons brengt. Eva is een aluminium zeiljacht met ophaalbare kiel. Wir sind beinahe ohne Segelerfahrung auf diese Reise aufgebrochen. Das erste mal ablegen mit der Eira, war am Tag, an dem die Reise begonnen hat. Bislang haben wir die Biskaya überquert, schwere Situationen in Spanien und Portugal gemeistert, den Atlantik in 22 Tagen überquert und wir haben es geschafft unseren Motor auf Guadeloupe zu reparieren. Jetzt geht unser Weg weiter richtung Westen. Die nächsten 2 1/2 Jahre werden wir nutzen um den Pazifik zu durchqueren, den indonesischen Raum zu erkunden und letztendlich nach der Umrundung des Kap der guten Hoffnungen wieder Fuß auf europäisches Land zu setzen.
