Jérémie Beyou, who was one of the outstanding pre-start favourites to win the Vendée Globe crossed the finish line in 13th place today (Saturday 6th February) after having had to return to Les Sables d’Olonne because of technical breakdowns and restart over nine days after the fleet started on Sunday 8th November.

* State of Khairpur * Jaisal Mir of Pakistan The state was founded in 1783 when the ruler of the area assassinated the chief of the Talpur Baloch tribe, then a battle took place at Hilani and the Kalhoras were defeated by the Baloch and Fateh Ali Khan Talpur became the first "Mir" of the Khairpur state. In 1947, the state announced its integration into Pakistan and in 1955, the state was fully integrated into Pakistan and became a district of Sindh province. Khairpur is the second largest district of Sindh in terms of area. Rich in date and banana orchards, Khairpur city is located between these districts (Sanghar, Nawabshah, Nowshera Feroze, Larkana, Shikarpur, Sukkur). On the other side is the Indian state of Rajasthan. During the rule of the state, its capital was Kot DJ, which is now a tehsil of this district. Surrounded by magnificent palaces, beautiful mansions and strong forts, the city has its own identity. The Mirano Wildlife Forest, created in 1780, is a vast forest with deer species. The most shocking shock for me here was that the fort in Kot DJ is built in the style of Stag (12 Singha). That is, if the stag's head is laid down, it is built in the same shape as the whole Khairpur. The palaces of are in the style of something or other. A palace is like an open rose. Well known political figure Qaim Ali Shah is from this city. But unfortunately, there is not much progress for tourism. I wish our rulers would understand why the Indian city of Jaisalmer, which is connected to this city, is the center of attention of foreign tourists. A detailed tour of Khairpur. However, at present we traveled as much as we could in one day and from there we went out to Sukkur.

A project I have been designing and improving for the last few months! Inspiration for performance requirements was taken from SeaDoo's 2 stroke Jet Ski's. An electrical power of 18000w or 24hp is drawn from the 4kWh/25kg of batteries. An estimated 13000w, or 17.5hp (horsepower) is mechanically delivered to the Water Jet Pump via the brushless electric motor that weighs in at under 5kg. The Jet Pump unit in the board is built from a combination of machined and laser cut aluminium. As well as PETG 3d printed components that are sanded smooth for better efficiency. The intake duct for the jet being the largest 3d printed component. All printed components were printed on a Creality CR-10 3d printer.

Transit the Panama Canal from the Pacific to the Atlantic. Join us aboard our Southerly 480, Distant Shores III, for our second transit through the famous Panama Canal, going in the opposite direction to our transit last year. Panama is in lockdown but the canal is open and for this transit we hire local line handlers due to travel restrictions. We face the challenge of getting through the canal as the only yacht and with reduced canal personnel. Then in the last lock with strong breezes and swirling current we run into trouble and get turned around in the lock chamber. This week Dauntless gets a shiny new coat of paint on her hulls and a brand new bow logo. Saddle up for some long nights and lots and lots of rain! We used the same AlexSeal primer, top coat and roll additive as we did on the coach roof (video linked below), but we also used the AlexSeal top coat accelerator to help the paint gas off and cure faster to avoid the rain as best as we could. EP: 160- Camping in the DESERT..with no tent!? We start our road trip up to a farm (garubib) in Damaraland. On the way we stopped to catch some fish( carp to be specific) but with no luck as the locals said they were only catching catfish 😢 Ricky was disappointed, so we carried on our trip.. We stopped in the Brandberge to sleep under the stars for the night. It was pretty epic until Luke kicked me out of the bed.. but I guess I was out of any snakes way.. which was also a good thing. The following day we carried on our journey to the farm where we were greeted in the most epic way ever. In 1997, after a disastrous Olympic rowing campaign, Rob decided to row a seven-metre plywood boat, 2500 miles from Tenerife in the Canary Islands to Barbados in the Caribbean. It took 6 weeks and he and his rowing partner, Phil Stubbs, won the inaugural Atlantic Rowing Race. Skip forward to 2014, we invested in Javelot a 43 ft Fountaine Pajot catamaran. Armed only with Robert's 3 years of racing P class yachts from the age of 11 to 13, and Rachel's non existent sailing knowledge, we set off to learn the ropes of ocean sailing. We broke stuff, replaced stuff and got to know our boat before heading offshore with our three children, Finn 17, Declan 15 and Ivan 12, in tow. Through trial and error, we have become confident wayfarers, kind of. Our plan? To sail around the world, meet the locals and record our adventures. Part of the journey will be retracing Rob’s eldest brother Kerry’s travels at sea. Using Kerry’s original letters from the 1970’s we will re trace his movements from Australia through Indonesia and South East Asia to Cambodia where Kerry’s life was cut short after straying into Cambodian waters in 1978. So much happened in only a week in Antigua. We completed our sailing lessons, said goodbye to Captain Ben, met our favorite kid goat, and acquired a new crew member! But, all of our scheduled upgrades were urging us to head to Sint Maarten. The only downside to leaving was that there was no forecasted wind. We were heading into flat seas again – not a bad thing on our first crossing without Captain Ben! We provisioned the boat and brought on Lauren, a new crew member. Lauren is a vivacious, adorable college sophomore from the state of Maine. She is a go-getter, already owning her own boat and doing her own improvements. While e-learning, she hopped on a delivery boat in Rhode Island and spent 2 weeks at sea with an all male crew and loved it. I met Lauren on Facebook – Women Who Sail site – as she was open to crewing again. We invited her to join us on the short passage to Sint Maarten where she could find more flights or sailng opportunities there. She was a gem to have onboard. And, Tracie continued her journey with us to Sint Maarten. But, sadly, her trip was coming to an end. Our 18.5 hour, 100 NM crossing to Sint Maarten was a breeze, as easy as the crossing from St. Lucia to Antigua. We DID get to see dolphins as the sun came up over the horizon, our first big animal sighting on Blown Away. We arrived around 8:30 in the morning and anchored in Simpson Bay before clearing at customs. Thankfully, it was a breeze other than extra forms to complete due to COVID. This stop in Sint Maarten will completely transform our boat from a charter boat to a blue water cruising vessel. In episode two we dive into the details of the AC75 sails, answering the question- just what is the twin skin mainsail? We caught up with Emirates Team New Zealand embedded sail designer Burns Fallow to learn more about the twin skin mainsail; a concept decided on before they had finalized the AC75 hull design. Fallow explained, "Straight after the cup in 2017, when Emirates Team New Zealand was then establishing the new America's Cup rules for the new boat, we began brainstorming. There was a desire to move away from the solid wings of 2010, 2013, 2017. And what was driving this was we couldn't see the wing have any trickle-down to regular sailing. We didn't actually know what the boat would be at that stage. We assumed that what could we do deliver performance similar to the solid wings with regular mainsails on a mast. We came up with this concept through a coupe of brainstorming sessions within a matter of weeks of after the 2017 Cup ." There's more to it, including a very cool history lesson.
