We spoke with Richard Woods, a catamaran designer and sailor based in the UK and famous worldwide. Today, we are talking about pointing and whether or not catamarans can point because there's a myth about catamarans and their inability to point. Having sailed around the world on one of Richard's designs, I can let you know that we pointed, probably better than a lot of the monohulls we were with. Hi Guys - welcome back. In this video I show you what life is like on a smaller narrowboat. If you are thinking about moving on to a narrowboat you don't necessarily need a 60ft+ boat. Having a smaller boat may allow you to make the jump quicker rather than saving up for a larger more expensive boat. Bigger ins't necessarily better. When searching for a narrowboat - don't rule out the smaller ones they are more than adequate as full time living! I hope you enjoy! Kayleigh I'm Kayleigh and along with my two dogs Hugo and Coco we will full time on board our 37ft narrowboat Grayswood. After living nearly two years in our self-converted campervan we decided we needed more space. So we decided to purchase a boat after spending some time on our friend’s narrowboat. Grayswood was conveniently located less that 5 minutes from my work and was found kind of by accident. I was visiting a friend who was staying in Aston Marina and whilst we were out walking the dogs, I seen the advert for Grayswood. I said to my friend “that looks a nice boat” and as I said it the marina manager appeared and asked if we would like a look inside. Naturally we did. After looking inside the boat, we made an offer after going back for a second viewing, after some negotiations within a week she was ours pending a survey. She was hauled out the following week and the survey went well. We kept her out on the hard standing for a further six weeks whilst we renovated the insides including fitting a new kitchen and bathroom. I sailed across from mainland Florida to Sanibel Island in my 11 foot "Super Snark" sailboat. With my homemade experimental sail, I hit the water for a challenging task of making it to the other shore and back. As I learn the currents, tides, wind, swell, shoals, and boat traffic I finally figure out that it can be done. This video will show you what its like to attempt sailing a small boat in these waters. In this episode, Debbie and I have an epic sail to Hen Rock, Catalina Island. Debbie has been prone to seasickness in the past, so we put her Relief Band to the test. Winds start to build and we practice reducing canvas for a smooth ride. We opt to pick up a mooring due to the small craft advisory and forecast wind change overnight that would have us anchoring against a lee shore. We fumble around and the captain shouts a few profanities while we attempt to pickup our mooring in a tailwind. We get an assist from Ohana for a successful mooring pickup then have a nice, brief hike on the island. We spot a Catalina Island Fox, Bald Eagle, and Bison! Winds are lighter for the return.
