We're rocketing down the Chesapeake Bay in storm conditions of 55 knot winds and huge waves. Then our rig makes a sound like a gun shot and we scramble to asses the damage before we hit a lee shore..... After finishing our mini-refit in Annapolis we set sail under calm, beautiful conditions. Our destination is Little Creek, Virginia where we'll stop and prepare to round the notorious Cape Hatteras. On our 2nd day out the conditions build throughout the day and by afternoon we find ourselves in terrible winds with huge following seas. The winds are a solid 40 knots with gusts to 55 knots. Things go sideways when we get hit by a combination of a wind shift and a large breaking sea that causes our jib to backwind and smashes our downwind pole into Delos. With a lee shore ahead we need to asses the damage and get some sail up to get into a protected anchorage. Many hugs and hope you liked the video! 3 day visit to the Dutch Island of Saba, where we go diving and have a wonderful walk around the central volcanic peak. One of the best Caribbean islands, and probably the most unspoiled one. Saba does not have any sheltered waters, so we decided to leave s/v Cloudy Bay (Hallberg Rassy 54) safely at anchor in St. Martin and take the fast ferry. Saba is a rather unique island, with no beaches and essentially one steep volcanic peak jutting out the sea. We stayed in a boutique hotel in the village of Windward and spent one day hiking a well laid trail, which goes all the way around the volcano. Saba is also famous for its scuba diving and we were not disappointed with our 2 dives, even if it was rather rough conditions to enter and exit the water. 22-24 February 2019

Running Florence aground and a final test of our diving skills. It's not always easy, but it is worth it. We take a weekend break from our diving course to explore the deserted but difficult cruising grounds off of West Sumatra, before returning for our final dive of the course and a challenge. Can we find the sunken wreck of an old sailing boat, on our own?!? We are a British couple who set off from England in 2016 to fulfill our dream of sailing around the world on our 37ft sail boat, Florence. Aligning has still been a little tough, and that's because our bridge deck keeps flexing in opposite ways. They're coated in a clear packing tape, which will make them much easier to use once the resin dries. We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, two years after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Vamos começar a série de vídeos navegando na Lagoa dos Patos e vamos mostras as imagens dos lugares onde passamos e contar como foi esta navegada que totalizou mais de quatrocentas milhas durante quase trinta dias a bordo, pelo nosso Mar de Dentro como é conhecido. Esta foi a maior navegada com este barco também o maior período que passamos a bordo dele. Então planejamos navegar no Guaíba e na Lagoa dos Patos, saindo de Porto Alegre até Rio Grande, passando pelas diversas cidades e ancoradouros neste caminho. Abastecemos o barco com alimentação, água e combustível e demais coisas necessárias para navegar. Nossos planos eram de evitar contato com pessoas em todos os locais por onde fossemos passar, em função do covid19, mantendo assim isolamento. Portanto levamos, inclusive duas bicicletas a bordo, para termos total autossuficiência e não dependermos de outros meios de transporte para fazermos comprar quando fosse necessário em alguma das paradas ao longo da nossa rota planejada. We left our marina haven of Finike to begin exploring Northward again only to run into another weather system of thunderstorms and wind. Maar we blijven niet lang, want we gaan vlot door naar de Kieler fjord en leggen aan in Laboe. Tijdens onze tocht naar Laboe zie we bruinvissen, een hele kleine soort walvis. Maar doorgaans worden ze gewoon dolfijnen genoemd. Wij zijn Ben en Felia. Jaren hebben wij de droom gehad om samen over de wereld te zeilen. In mei 2020 zijn we aan dit grote avontuur begonnen. The mini lathe gets some extra kit and is used to make its first piece; the main mast partners fitting is polished and dry fitted; the forward bulwark combing caps are sanded and varnished; the stove chimney parts arrive and the through deck fitted is prepped; the main mast step is painted along with some other bits; Hazel's boat gets some new bits and also gets to float again. This is the story of the building of a Jay Benford designed, 31.8ft, junk schooner-rigged cruising sailboat. The videos are a week-by-week record of the build as it progresses and aim to show as much detail as possible of the various aspects of the build. I had no idea when I bought a sailboat I would have to contend with so many rules and regulations. I believed I could just sail off into the sunset. But no. So this has been an education of how to navigate the Marine rules of Japan. Also, I have learned a lot about the boat and myself for the first part of this shakedown cruise. So far I have completed 239 Nautical Miles ( 442 km) solo and have become woefully aware that I need a working autohelm and AIS in order to sleep on windless nights. All this has caused me to reconsider my timings and plans. I am learning to live with uncertainty in terms of timings, plans, and tactics while remaining sure of the goal.
