Siamo usciti per fare una giornata di prova a bordo di un catamarano, Lagoon 50 piedi. Abbiamo fatto prove di manovre in porto e provato il catamarano in tutte le andature con raffiche fino a 30 Kts di vento. Corso Skipper 1° Comando 8/15 Maggio 2021 - Area di navigazione: Tirreno Meridionale - Golfo di Palermo e Isole Egadi. Nel 4° giorno di corso, ci troviamo in navigazione tra l'Isole di Levanzo e Trapani.

I don’t know if it was a blessing or a curse, but either way, I went for it. I didn’t know what I was getting into when I accepted this job, I probably should have asked... anyway, I found out later I would be helping deliver this brand new 2021 54’ Beneteau Oceanis sailboat from Channel Islands Harbor to Shelter Island Boatyard in San Diego California. Sure it’s a new boat, but there’s a catch, a tall one..... the boat isn’t completely built yet and there is no mast and no cover or bimini top of any kind. Fun! Luckily, conditions were good right from the start leaving Channel Islands Harbor, crossing the shipping lanes, passing Catalina Island, and cruising south in the dark all the way to Point Loma. We had an EPIC dolphin sighting that Mark, the captain, and I will never forget. Mark even claims that a shark rammed the transom while he was on watch but of curse the camera wasn’t rolling. The worst part of this trip was the cold we faced at night. Bring more layers that you need if you are going to be on the Pacific Ocean at night, no matter what time of year. Oh and food, bring lots of food! This delivery was a crazy adventure and I it is a real trip to be on a bare bones sailing boat that is only half built. Kinda nice not having all those lines to worry about actually... Soph hasn't had a shower in a week so and is going slightly loopy from UNI assignments, so she treats herself to a saucepan shower. We get up at sparrow fart to leave Mooloolaba but find a blown fuse that runs all of our 2 instruments. Our day plans drastically change as we now have to hunt down these tiny fuses (as we have no spares), but we find there is something else going on (of course its never that simple) and have to do a bit of re-wiring. The next day we get up early again to leave but find the wind has turned Northerly, we treat ourselves again to a shower, this time on the glorious beach, another way we shower without a shower. 3rd time lucky we manage to crawl out of the Mooloolaba Bar and make a slow dash towards Double Island Point, an ocean anchorage with a formed lagoon, suitable for Catamarans and us.... we hope. As we are still preparing Seagull for the season and we can see snow on the mountains we decide to explore Scotland by car. We are thrilled at the chance to drive the the snow covered highlands and find a nice place for lunch. We explore the Glen Lee a steel-hulled three-masted barque, built as a cargo ship at Port Glasgow. Its an interesting ship and you can eat lunch in the lower levels of the ship. On a very wet and rainy day we visit the Kelpies and the Falkirk Wheel. Seagull has too deep a keel to transit the canal in this part of Scotland, so it was a must by car to see this magnificent piece of engineering. Finally, we test our new electric outboard and we are thrilled by our new purchase. By the end of the episode we are setting sail once more. With one owner from new, she has been professionally maintained by a full-time crew. Bliss is ideally set up for crewed charter, having been previously lightly worked in The Whitsundays. Her split cockpit allows the boat to be handled by the skipper with guests sitting forward and out of the way. She features twin helms with full instrumentation at both. Her layout includes three private queen size cabins, including owner's stateroom forward. Each cabin is self-contained with private en-suite, individually controlled air conditioning and flat screen TV. Let me know what you think in the comments below :) Kayleigh I'm Kayleigh and along with my two dogs Hugo and Coco we will full time on board our 37ft narrowboat Grayswood. After living nearly two years in our self-converted campervan we decided we needed more space. So we decided to purchase a boat after spending some time on our friend’s narrowboat. Grayswood was conveniently located less that 5 minutes from my work and was found kind of by accident. I was visiting a friend who was staying in Aston Marina and whilst we were out walking the dogs, I seen the advert for Grayswood. I said to my friend “that looks a nice boat” and as I said it the marina manager appeared and asked if we would like a look inside. Naturally we did. After looking inside the boat, we made an offer after going back for a second viewing, after some negotiations within a week she was ours pending a survey. She was hauled out the following week and the survey went well. We kept her out on the hard standing for a further six weeks whilst we renovated the insides including fitting a new kitchen and bathroom. One of the most unique attractions ready to discover is Croatia’s Sea Organ. Located on the seafront promenade of Croatia’s northern town Zadar, this installation is a first of its kind in the country. Commissioned in 2005 by architect Nikola Bašić alongside expert Dalmatia stone carvers, the Sea Organ in Zadar was created as a way to connect the locals back to the Adriatic Sea. 35 organ pipes have been carved along 70 meters of the promenade on the riva’s northwestern corner. Chiseled into 7 steps, the installation works by using 7 chords of 5 tones changing as you make your way down the promenade. Depending on the time of day, the Zadar Sea Organ will play music of varying tunes. When the tides are calm, the sounds are gentle and soft - much like the sound of someone blowing the top of an empty bottle! When the tides shift and the waves become more powerful, a much livelier song is played. One of the best ways to enjoy this installation is finding a step to sit on and listening to the changing songs throughout the day as Zadar plays its very own symphony for you. What a peaceful sunset sail in the Charleston Harbor! We had a great wind to carry us all the way out for a close up view of the Sullivan's Island Lighthouse and Fort Sumpter. Gentle breezes and awesome crew set up for a relaxing time on the water. Such an awesome way to see the sights that Charleston has to offer from the water!

After 6 months on the paradisiacal atolls of the Tuamotus, French Polynesia, we are heading towards Tahiti. However, there is still one island that interests us insanely. Makatea. Millions of years ago also an atoll, the island was pushed up and today impresses with spectacular natural paradise. Surrounded by white cliffs and breathtaking beauty, inland like a moonscape, the island was already abandoned in the 60s. Formerly a vibrant working island, specializing in the mining of phospate, the island was cleared for planned nuclear testing and left to its own devices. Parts of the machines and tools can still be found today and are being reclaimed by nature. Today, attempts are being made to make the island an ecotourism destination and to use the beautiful cliffs for rock climbing. Again and again the talks start to restart the phospate mining, but thank God the little paradise in the middle of the South Seas so far successfully resists.
