After a great stay at Magnetic Island, we sail across Cleveland Bay to spend a week in Breakwater Marina exploring Townsville, a city too cool to bother with having winter. The early August weather in this tropical city is glorious as we take a walking tour of beautifully preserved colonial buildings and discover a treasure trove of history in the Maritime Museum including a brilliant exhibition about the wreck of the SS Yongala which foundered in a cyclone off Cape Bowling Green in 1911. We stretch our legs in the sunshine along the Strand and enjoy the quirky installation art, beautiful parklands, golden beaches and military history of Kissing Point. New friends take us up to the summit of Castle Hill for a spectacular sunset. In Our Galley Karen shows a quick and easy way to bake tasty fresh bread on board. When Serendipity, this light-green RM970 with her inspiring name (lien) is splashing in La Rochelle, dressed by Incidences with a DFi square top mainsail and Storm-Light white sails, we could not resist to the temptation of jumping onboard for her first miles. A pretty good opportunity to verify that this 32ft cruiser feels at ease in a 20-25 knts breeze. Should one have a doubt, check the owner’s son, 7 years old, pulling on the tiller to manage the planning hull up to 10 knts SOG! Feel free to share your own RM story! Its a sad time as we have to say goodbye to @RyanSophieSailing but it cant be helped as we have been in Bonaire for 3 months and our visa is about to expire! We set off at 5am with another boat as we need to catch high tide when we arrive in Dominican Republic. To our surprise Ryan and Sophie are out on Polar Seal (at 5am!!!) to see us off. They say there are big ships and little ships but nothing like friendships! We have a good sail to the DR and average well over 7.5 knots but unfortunately Philippa gets sea sick. Neither of us tend to suffer from sea sickness's so we are not sure why this passage was different. Arriving in Cap Cana we our led down a very shallow channel to our berth where we rest for the night. We set off the next day for Samana which we have heard from other cruisers is absolutely beautiful and a great whale watching spot. Again, its a race to get there in daylight hours and we have to dodge numerous lobster pots and small fishing boats. Arriving in Samana we find out that it was all worth the effort! “How are you feeling?” Kazza asks my dad. His reply- “With my hands! That’s a Grandpa-ism…”. And that pretty much describes having my dad, Papa SV Delos, onboard for a cruise through the iconic Intracoastal Waterway. In this episode we transit the ICW from Ft. Lauderdale to Boca Raton, doing our best to avoid hitting any bridges and running aground! With a mast height of nearly 70 feet we need to open all 10 bridges along the way. It's never a dull moment onboard with my dad and his antics! Many hugs and hope you liked the video! Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V700 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over two days. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. To start off this week, Matt and I go about strengthening the seam to the inner hull. This is where we had just bonded with the methacrylate, and the next step is going through to glass the interior. It will make the area incredibly strong, and leave us with no worries while we're out sailing the high seas. We visit a wreck on a nearby reef. It is sad to see another boat washed up on a reef, damaged and stripped beyond repair. We take some time to explore the crystal clear waters and coral reef but return back to home base, Cayo Alcatraz to spear some dinner. It's Margarida's turn to supply the fish and she doesn't disappoint people bagging a very nice dog snapper. Covid is still worrying her but she returns home with a big smile to match that big fish. During his time away from work, Jamie lived on board and cruised South East Asia. One of his life dreams is to sail around the world. His plans came together at the end of 2018 when he met a Filipina lounge singer in China. Princess was yearning for a vacation since she had been working many years to support her family. Finally, her siblings got their own jobs and she decided to join Jamie on Jupiter² and go sailing. It was a wild decision for her because she had never sailed before. For the first time, they sail for two weeks around Phuket, Thailand. She began to see what Jamie love about the sea. They both resigned from their jobs in early 2019 and began cruising full time. Hopefully some inspiration to "Quit Job and Go Sailing".

Having not lined up since November 2019, 44Cup competition resumed today for the high performance owner-driver one designs, with three races successfully held on the Bay of Piran. These started in a 6 knots and built to 12 over the afternoon. The 44Cup Portorož is being hosted by Vladimir Prosikhin and Igor Lah, owners of Team Nika and Team CEEREF respectively. Team CEEREF is the 44Cup's Slovenian-flagged RC44 while two key crew on board Team Nika once represented Slovenia in the Olympic Games, come from Portorož and one, Mitja Margon, is this event's organiser. It was appropriate therefore that these two RC44s won the first two races. Team Nika posted by far the most consistent results today, returning ashore with a four point lead. Behind her the competition is far closer with just four points separating second from seventh places.

Ciao Amici!
