Boat jobs can be expensive and dirty, especially this one which is why we left it to the experts and were amazed at the cost, professionalism, efficiency and quality of work. Our passion is Sailing and the Sea, we bought Royal Atenea with the intention to start cruising around the world after spending all our lives working hard at sea. After we bought this beauty we found that it needed some love and care as it was abandoned by the previous owners so we are taking our time to bring her back to life. Eventually around the world trip will commence when the boat is fully upgraded for crossing the oceans and other continents. We are also working on the Electric Conversion of the first Jongert. About the Boat ''SY ROYAL ATENEA'' was built in Holland in 1973. Her original name was ''Antares''.She is a Jongert Trewes Design with 5mm Steel Hull and rigged as a Ketch with Aluminium Masts. Her LOA is 19.3m and she has a beam of 4.6m with a draft of 2.98m She weighs 33t and she can cruise at 7 kts with the engine and 8-10 kts on sail depending on the wind. She is fairly comfortable with 15 to 20 kts of wind. Freshwater capacity to last over 2 weeks and a fuel range of 13 days steaming. About the Boat ''SY Red Current'' is a Southerly 31 with the construction of GRP and rigged as a sloop with Aluminium Mast. Her LOA is 31 feet and she has a beam of 10 feet with a draft of 7 feet. She also has an electric swing keel which makes her draft very shallow and easy to enter in shallow water. First of all let me tell you that I have NOT had a purple rinse on my thinning hair! I filmed this video in a studio in the UK against a green screen, and the lighting caused this effect! Over my years in yacht brokerage from time to time I encounter wealthy individuals who have simply given up in their efforts to buy a yacht due to the chaotic and unreliable nature of the industry. This video addresses one of the causes of this problem, and a solution to it!

EP 176: Yacht Work ,Yacht Life, What Its ALL About! As our friends on SV Victoria get ready to go home, we spent our weekend exploring Grenada with them. Our last stop with them was Fort Fredericks. The scenery had a 360 degree view of Grenada. It was really something. We then said our goodbyes & set out on the search for the "perfect beach". We stopped at 3 different beaches but non that really stole our hearts like Grand Anse Beach has.. the search will have to continue as we anchor around the island. We needed to get some boat work done which meant that a stop at the hardware store was needed for some supplies.. and then the boat work can commence! WOW! Catching SQUID with NO LURE on sailing catamaran - Ep 106 If you'd like to support us creating these videos keeping us afloat see our Patreon page: https://www.patreon.com/CruisingKiwis We are sailing off shore, off grid to Black Reef on The Great Barrier Reef. Normally a squid jig is used to catch squid but lacking the right lure we developed a technique that worked just as well for us. Then we cleaned, cooked and shared them with our friends. We also completed several stunning dives while in the incredibly calm waters of the reef. And a we have a return visit from one of our Black Noddy Tern friends. Our thanks to Barry and Kim Boswell (Jadean), and Richard and Kim Dakins (Libeccio) for additional photography. What a time we had together! Music Brooke Annibale - Feels like home instrumental - Musicbed.com Luna Keller - I don't know where I'm going Brooke Annibale - Feels Like home David Mumford - Ball and chain BACK STORY In 1997, after rowing at the Atlanta Olympics, Rob decided to row a tiny seven-metre plywood boat, 2500 miles from Tenerife in the Canary Islands to Barbados in the Caribbean. It took 6 weeks and he and his rowing partner, Phil Stubbs, won the inaugural Atlantic Rowing Race. His first taste of a blue water ocean crossing. Skip forward to 2014 and, married with three children, Rob and Rachel purchased Javelot a 43 ft Fountaine Pajot catamaran. Armed only with Rob's 3 years of racing P class yachts from the age of 11 to 13, and Rachel's non existent sailing knowledge, we set off to learn the ropes of ocean sailing. We broke stuff, replaced stuff and got to know our boat before heading offshore with the kids, Finn 18, Declan 16 and Ivan 13, in tow. Through trial and error, we have become confident wayfarers, kind of. Our plan? To sail around the world. Part of the journey will be retracing Rob’s eldest brother Kerry’s travels at sea. Using Kerry’s original letters from the 1970’s we will re trace his movements from Australia through Indonesia and South East Asia to Cambodia where Kerry’s life was cut short after straying into Cambodian waters in 1978. Kerry and two friends were attacked by a Khmer Rouge gun boat, captured, tortured and executed. www.brothernumberone.co.nz ***** Follow us in real time on Instagram and Facebook @thecruisingkiwis @finn_hamill @declan_hamill @ivanhamill #NeverStopWanderingNeverStopWondering. #TheCruisingKiwis

Any sailor traveling across Southern Puerto Rico and heading West has to cross the dreaded Mona Passage; this is the body of water between Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic and is considered treacherous due to a massive amount of water from the Atlantic Ocean pouring into a small funnel between the islands. Sailors have been known to face 40-50' waves in this passage when winds and swell kick up as well as afternoon thunderstorms. To safely cross the passage, it's essential to pick a favorable weather window, one that has good winds (direction and strength), low wave heights and long wave lengths. To help us choose our window, we hired Chris Parker, renowned meteorologist. He forecasts the weather and suggests the pros and cons of leaving on any particular day. You are in the best position if you have flexibility. A schedule is the downfall of a sailor. The window we chose happened to have very low winds so we knew it would be more of a motor, which was fine by us. It turned out that the sea was like glass the whole way across. It could not have been more beautiful. But, when we hit the coast of the DR, the winds and swell turned Northern and we pounded against them for a long time. The northern swell and winds were not forecasted and took us by surprise. But, after 50 hours, we safetly dropped anchor in Luperon, the staging area to prepare for the Bahamas. Luperon is an amazing place with beautiful landscapes and kind and friendly locals. It was fun to get to use my Spanish and converse with the locals. The clearing process was interesting and long. We checked in with the navy first on our boat, then with Customs, then the bay, then immigration, then agriculture. Once the process was completed, we were free to roam the town and enjoy the local cuisine, flora and fauna. We hope you enjoy the video and we highly recommend a visit to Luperon if you are in the area. #sailing #sailboat #sailingprojects #puertorico #monapassage #dominicanrepublic #luperon NEW TO OUR CHANNEL? We are Eileen and Brown Councill. Welcome to our channel and a glimpse into our life adventure! 2020 was a year of uncertainty and change (for all of us, right?), but we overcame the challenges and decided it was time to chase our dream, to sail around the world! Did I mention that we had very NO sailing experience? Before leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our earthly possessions and started our international search to find the right sailboat that we would call "home." After 5 months of unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia. So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you. We are so glad you have decided to join us, and we hope that you will find our story so compelling that it will inspire you to chase your dreams too! As a viewer, we consider you to be part of our family and look forward to getting to know you. Don't hesitate to comment on our videos and ask questions.
