Put up some nice shade to help keep muh boat cool. LeeLoo is enjoying topside much more now that things are a bit cooler thanks to a little bit of pvc, crab line, and a tarp!

Sailing north from Marathon Key, Florida. This will mark our first time sailing outside on the open ocean. We originally intended to make it all the way up to Jacksonville FL in one shot but fatigue, a dying wind, and subsequent engine trouble resulting from spooling up some fishing net on the prop forced us in earlier than planned at Fort Pierce. Say hello to my nurse shark neighbors. Just a few of the sights to see when living on the sea. These sharks patrol the marina in Marathon Key, Florida.

Making a guardrail to protect my little boat dog LeeLoo from falling off the boat. Safety first for sailing life with a french bullddog on board. PVC and lashing. Doubles as an anchor board for lashing down our jerrycans of gas and diesel while under way.

Riced cauliflower tacos are what’s for dinner tonight aboard SV SweetPea this taco Tuesday. Off grid living aboard a boat is tasty. Cauliflower is supposed to be extremely healthy being a cruciferous vegetable with added benefits for guys. Apparently it is supposed to help scrub out excess estrogen in males. All I know for sure is that these tacos turned out tasty.

See how to cook breakfast tacos aboard a boat! Everything is better aboard a boat. Who doesn't love bacon? Seriously though, if you don't like bacon: leave a comment below cuz I want to know! I'll try cooking whatever alternative to bacon that tickles your fancy! Just because you are thinking about living off grid aboard a boat doesn't mean you have to settle for bologna sandwiches and wolf brand chili (that could be rough). Even with a small galley with nothing but a two burner propane camping stove, you can still whip up delicious meals aboard your floating home. Like what you see? Then be sure to subscribe and grab a Tee. SweetPeas Boat Tees has salty swag suitable for your inner swashbuckler: https://teespring.com/stores/sweetpeas-boat-tees Need a camp stove? Here you go: Coleman two burner portable propane stove. It's the new model of the one I use myself. https://amzn.to/3pOHhXZ

Catch and cook Barracuda and snapper aboard a 36' sailboat. Is Barracuda toxic? Lets taste test it! A look inside what life is like out on the waters of the Florida Keys and how I go about cooking on a boat. Just because it's a tiny house on the water doesn't mean you have to relegate yourself to bologna sandwiches! Delicious food is waiting right outside, so its time to hook and cook it! Anchored on the Gulf side of Marathon, Florida were we can catch dinner literally within a couple hundred yards of the boat. Beats farm to table by a long shot. Catch and cook is the way to go! $30 a plate seafood dinner pulled right out of the water, it doesn't get any more fresh than this! I know a lot of Americans consider barracuda to be a trash fish thanks to ciguatera toxicity, but that's just 'cause they don't know the whole story. Barracuda is delicious! I would even say better than the snapper we had cooked up side by side! Firm flesh, no fishy taste or odor, pure tasty fillets. No problems with barracuda so long as you harvest the smaller ones. Ciguatera can be in the older, larger fish since the toxin accumulates of the life of the fish, biomass accumulation or some such technical thing. If you haven't tried it yet, I strongly suggest you do (15-20" are the best, personally!) So we made a pit stop in Charleston SC to check out the town. What ensued is a combination of lip syncing and BBQ! Quite the combo right?? Anyways, we had a great time and ate some delicious food while at Rodney Scott’s BBQ. Hope you get a laugh out of this one!

So our 36’ sailboat SweetPea is supposed to have a 7.5 knot hull speed but with the help of the current down river we managed 9.5 knots for the first time ever! Hooray! So....... that’s it 😐🥳

Fixing water pump belt that got cut. Had to wait a couple days for a new belt. When things go wrong on a boat you have to fix it yourself. Boat repairs are done a little differently than on land. Improvising and tight quarters are just a few of the problems.

Chores like laundry are done differently when living on a boat. Save a little money by taking a short hike from the marina.

It’s our first time ever sailing. It’s our first time ever anchoring in winds over 40 mph. It is safe to say we are very much rookies at this. We decided to anchor outside Joint Base Langley-Eustis ( Langley AFB ) to wait out Zeta. Always better safe than sorry. Turned out to be a pretty cool choice when a pod of dolphins rolled through, all while fighter jets and helicopters flew overhead! Took a stab at the tiny bait first they were after with my dip net for fun since I’d hate to throw a cast net on a dolphin. No luck with the dip net, but not a bad way to wait out foul weather.

Not having access to much in terms of tools, space, or material, sometimes you have to get creative to help make life more comfortable while living on a sailboat. I made a collapsible coffee table to hang and stow away quickly from a piece of paracord, a grocery bag, and an end cap from a spool of crabbing line. Not bad 👍
