In this episode we finally get to assemble the cabins after rebuilding the primary bulkheads of our Lagoon 450 catamaran. The cabins could not be taken apart without being destroyed in some areas, so it was a difficult task getting it to go back together. But we are over the moon with the result! This series will show never before seen footage of how we straightened and strengthened a 45ft production catamaran, in order to be able to complete a circumnavigation. It took 6 weeks and he and his rowing partner, Phil Stubbs, won the inaugural Atlantic Rowing Race. His first taste of a blue water ocean crossing. Skip forward to 2014 and, married with three children, Rob and Rachel purchased Javelot a 43 ft Fountaine Pajot catamaran. Armed only with Rob's 3 years of racing P class yachts from the age of 11 to 13, and Rachel's non existent sailing knowledge, we set off to learn the ropes of ocean sailing. We broke stuff, replaced stuff and got to know our boat before heading offshore with the kids, Finn 18, Declan 16 and Ivan 13, in tow. Through trial and error, we have become confident wayfarers, kind of. Our plan? To sail around the world. Part of the journey will be retracing Rob’s eldest brother Kerry’s travels at sea. Using Kerry’s original letters from the 1970’s we will re trace his movements from Australia through Indonesia and South East Asia to Cambodia where Kerry’s life was cut short after straying into Cambodian waters in 1978. I take noticed that in strong winds saing, between 10-15 knots, when course it is close to the wind, minicat become overpowered. Of course if you don’t use trapeze, solution is to release the main sail. I observed that the 1x1 default system it is hard to release smooth the main sail. So, i change it with a solution that use 6x1 pulley system. That resolve all the problems i noticed. For the first time i can avoid capsize, even when i don’ t pay atention.

Team GTR got back to winning ways at the 2021 KYC regatta. On a light and flukey day the manage to stay ahead of the pack getting to the shifts first. The sun was shining on the way home with the rum adding to the sweetness of the coffee 😂

Hier ist das Rezept: Torretta di Melanzane: Zutaten für 6 Auberginentürmchen 1 mittelgroße Aubergine 1 Tomate 1 Mozzarella Kugel 1 kleines Stück frischer Parmesan 6 Blätter frisches Basilikum 180g Salsa di Pomodoro Datterino 1 Knoblauchzehe Olivenöl Oregano Salz Pfeffer Step1 Aubergine, Mozzarella, Tomate in Scheiben schneiden (am besten nicht zu dicke Scheiben schneiden) Step2 Auberginenscheiben in etwas Olivenöl anbraten oder wenn ihr einen Grill parat habt natürlich gerne auf den Grill legen Step3 Salsa di Pomodoro Datterini mit Oregano, Salz, Pfeffer, 1 TL Ölivenöl & 1 gepressten Knoblauchzehe vermengen Step4 Backofen auf mittlerer Hitze vorheizen und währenddessen die Türmchen Schichten. Did I mention it was on an island too…. and built in 1972🤯 It’s funny, you never know what you are going to discover on our lake. Boats that were bought to make floating night club/casinos, floating restaurant that never sold an item, or the most quaint cottage homes. We love exploring every inch of our lake. The risk of thunderstorms, unexpected acts of kindness, and an interesting coast lined marked my final few days sailing the Ehime Coast in West Shikoku. I had to be mindful of CAPE numbers ( Convective Available Potential Energy: see below) during my final few days sailing the west coast of Shikoku. The coastline continued to be spectacular and the kindness of people in Uwajma and Mikame is memorable, to say the least. I want to say a BIG THANK YOU to Tokuda san of Barber Cruise (https://barbercruise-marine.crayonsite.com/ ) and a fellow yachtsman who helped me procure a prime mooring spot in Uwajima. He was introduced to me by Shibafuji san, the boat designer and builder in Kochi. The developing string of friendships is special to me. Also, the ladies of the Tourist Info Centre in Uwajima went way beyond the call of duty to help. It was fun too, to follow in the footsteps ( or wake) of Kirk Patterson, the first foreigner to circumnavigate Japan and a privilege to sign the same guest book he had signed years earlier when visiting Uwajima with Silk Purse. https://www.konpira-consulting.com/ This completes my sailing the coastline of Shikoku. Now to Kyushu where I hope to have the boat pulled out for yet another JCI inspection and then onwards to where the wind and waves take me. Notes: 1. I mention the lime orchards.
