Isle of Dogs Sea Cadet Unit The Isle of Dogs Sea Cadet Unit has been revitalized with the twin efforts of two local schools, after a lot of background work and help we took our new Cadets to the Royal Victoria Boat Station to see the venue, vessels and get in the water for a water confidence test which they all passed. Next week we will be sailing as long as the weather holds up.

We sail the boat from South Deep, near Furzey Island and go along the Dorset coast to spend the night on one of the new Eco-Moorings in Studland bay. Unser Segelboot Squib, ein Catalac 9M, ist in die Jahre gekommen, die Verkleidung hängt teilweise von der Decke, die Farbe blättert ab, die Elektrik auf dem Stand des vorigen Jahrtausends,..... Ein Refit steht an. Doch Broterwerb und Verpflichtungen lassen es nicht zu, monatelang in Griechenland am Boot zu arbeiten. Da wird schon 2018 die Idee geboren Squib nach Wien zu bringen, wo man jederzeit Zugang hat, der Einkauf von Material in der Muttersprache abgewickelt werden kann und alles andere seinen gewohnten Verlauf nimmt. Bereits 2018 starteten wir Richtung Wien, doch ein Motorschaden in der Straße von Messina zwang uns, den Überstellungstörn abzubrechen. Im Laufe des Tages dreht der Wind von Südost auf Nordwest und frischt spürbar auf.Stark gerefft geht es bei stürmischem Wind durch die Nacht und den nächsten Vormittag. Langsam flaut der Wind ab, am Nachmittag motoren wir bei Flaute Richtung Italen. Kurz nach Mitternacht erreichen wir Rocella Ionica wo wir vor dem Hafenbecken den Rest der Nacht ankern. Für die 190 Seemeilen haben wir 43 Stunden gebraucht

Vid 15-års ålder har de barn man läst för cirka 80 000 ord i sitt ordförråd, medan barn som inte blivit lästa för har cirka 15 000 ord. 📚 Det gör det superlätt att låna hem böcker. Flera hundratals familjer passerar kapprumsbiblioteken varje dag och påminns om att läsa för sitt barn. De Portoferraio vers le port de Capraia, notions de vent réel, vent vitesse, vent apparent.

De retour sur le No Land, on laisse derrière nous Giovanni, Marzamemi et la Sicile. Les jours de navigations s'enchainent et on continue notre conquête vers l'est. On rejoint le Sud de l'Italie par la Calabre et ensuite on récupère Chloé dans les Pouilles à Santa Maria di Leuca, on ne s'y arrête seulement une petite heure pour repartir directement vers Brindisi. Une semaine avec Chloé à bord, c'est pas de tout repos... visite des terres avec Matera, Alberobello et Locorotondo. Merci d'être venue petite tornade. La semaine passe vite, Chloé retourne en France et nous on reprend la mer pour le Montenegro. Arrivé de nuit dans le bouches de Kotor, vent, pas de vent, trop de vent, pas de vent, etc... On se met direct au quai des douanes pour dormir et aller faire les formalités d'entrée le matin mais à peine arrivé une douanière pas commode vient voir qui nous sommes. CHECK IN !! Our first tips video, focused on something you will rely on a lot during a refit - the ladder for getting on and off your boat. We are refitting a 44 year old Rival 38 for a Sustainable Sailing retirement in a few years. Two years ago, when we bought Vida she was in a very tired and damp condition with all original equipment and fittings. We have removed all the gas, diesel and paraffin equipment, and are installing all electric (motor, cooking etc). Now that the inside is dry (thanks to new windows, new hatches and leak chasing) we are fitting her out for live-aboard world cruising. On our sail from New Zealand to Fiji we noticed a leak coming from the rudder shaft so one of the jobs on our to do list is to take out the rudder to inspect the bearing and the seal to see if they need replacing. Our rudder is 3.5m long and made of carbon fiber. It was installed using a hydraulic jack, therefore to remove it, we also have to use the jack. This rudder system isn't very common and we haven't managed to find the designer or technical drawings yet. This made it extremely scary to try to remove, incase we miss something and do damage with the hydraulic jack, which we will be using to apply huge pressure to the rudder and structure of the boat! They're always messy, heavy, loud and a pain to fiddle with when something goes wrong with them. The Torqeedo is the first outboard that I've owned in years that changes the game. It's easy to install, lightweight, and most importantly, IT'S ELECTRIC, so no more oil spills and loud noises. This outboard is quite literally plug and play; it just works.
