A tricky day with a weather front located off Spain’s Costa Calida meant that despite the best efforts of the race committee, only one race could be held on day two of the GC32 Mar Menor Cup before the wind became too unstable and the foiling catamaran teams were sent back to the Club Náutico Lo Pagán. Alinghi took the win in the only race of the day.

Sailors for the Sea Skipper Damon Gannon recently chatted with Will Freund about his adventure with his Climate, Kayak and Conversation project. The mission of this project is to tell the stories of those impacted by climate change through sail-kayaking the Intracoastal Waterway and chatting with people along the way. In this segment (2 of 3), they Will's sailing trimaran kayak, his favorite stops, equipment failures and just how many pedal steps he estimates he took over the course of the journey.

We decide to change our anchorage and putt around the corner to another creek in the Hinchinbrook Channel. We take Peanut out to have a look around and explore this majestic place. In a previous episode, Magnus noted that the windlass was leaking oil, so it’s time to investigate. He takes it apart, fixes it and puts it back together again and all is well again on Nutshell. Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V700 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. DON'T DO THIS When Planning a Sailing Passage on a Catamaran | Harbors Unknown Ep. 46 We’re leaving the bucolic waters of The Basin in Casco Bay, sailing our Seawind 1600 catamaran ultimately to Annapolis where we’ll have some boat work done to get Wanderlust ready for the Annapolis Sailboat Show. We're planning to make a number of stops along the way because we’re still waiting for our new autopilot RAM which we hope will be delivered to Newport, Rhode Island. We learned once again it never pays to be on any other schedule except for Mother Nature’s as we sail upwind and against current, but then were treated to a beautiful downwind sail to the Cape Cod Canal, and were greeted by some of the most stunning race boats as we pass through Narragansett Bay. The next film from the series THE ULTIMATE PERFOMANCE CRUISING CATAMARAN. This time onboard of the ultra modern Outremer 4X. It’s nearly the same catamaran you know from SV La Vagabonde: the hulls are the same shape, but the boat is much lighter and therefore much faster. A lot of weight saving carbon fiber, rotating carbon mast, daggerboards and numerous special gear. This performance catamaran is 48 ft long, weights only 8 tons empty. We meet with Eric and Martine in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia and talk with them about their Outremer 4X and show a lot of sailing video. This is the fifth film of the series THE ULTIMATE PERFOMANCE CRUISING CATAMARAN, where we interviewed long term cruisers/liveaboard owners and made catamaran boat tours. This episode we leave Koolama Bay at the King George River entrance and sail to Butterfly Bay before rounding Cape Londonderry and have a quick stop at the Stewart Islands. Doing a quick lap around the island we come across a couple very large crocodiles slides and one on the waters edge, where we had just waded through a shallow river to a lagoon. Moving to the Governor Islands we explore the beach and while sitting and having our sun downer drinks, a large crocodile sneaks up and hides at the edge of the beach watching us. We continue to Honeymoon Bay and meet a lovely family after raiding their camp site thinking it was the office, and then explore the Pago Mission ruins with them. Met Lars vaar ik naar Île-de-Brehat en als we daar aankomen is de wind veel te hard om rustig te ankeren. We varen door naar Lezardrieux waar we aan een meerboei overnachten. Dan varen we terug naar Saint-Cast-le-Guildo, een prachtig dorpje aan de Bretonse kust. We zeilen terug naar Saint-Malo waar we Felia en Naomi treffen. Samen maken we een uitstapje naar Le Mont Saint-Michel. Lars en Naomi gaan kamperen en ik vaar met Felia verder. Jarenlang heb ik ervan gedroomd om zeilend te gaan waar de wind me brengt. In 2020 was het dan eindelijk zover en heb ik samen met Felia een prachtige reis gemaakt naar Scandinavië en de Baltische staten. Onze Eva, een Atlantic 43 uit 2007, is een aluminium zeiljacht met hefkiel en gebouwd en uitgerust voor reizen naar plaatsen die net achter de horizon liggen. Vanaf 2021 vaar ik met wisselende bemanning zuidwaarts. Ik vind het leuk om onze avonturen met jullie te delen.
