Hello Everyone! We finally say goodbye to the Dominican Republic and sail back to The Bahamas, but the weather doesn't want to make it easy for us. We have a long swelly sail to Little Inagua. The surprises don't end there, we have our first potential pirate experience, but it turns out to be the Bahemian Military with no marked uniforms, boarding the boats with a blacked out dingy with AK-47's. That was an interesting experience... Let us know what you think and how you would've dealt with the experience!! If you want to hear in more detail about what happened, read below!! Here is a little extra detail into the Military boarding experience we had as we sailed into Little Inagua. As you can see in the episode, we had tied up to Spear It Animal since our windlass was broken and it was a calm night. We noticed the military ship when we came in and there was another yacht anchored above them. We didn't think much of the ships anchored there and we were running out of sunlight as it was sunset when we were sailing into the bay. We needed to get tied up to Spear It Animal before it got dark. As Nathalie was tying up our stern line to Spear It Animal we hear, "Everyone on the vessels, move to the back of the boat", as this group of 10-12 men, wearing no uniforms, except bullet proof jackets, were boarding on Spear It Animal's Port Stern with AK-47's aimed at us. All four of us were so caught off guard, with no boarding announcement, and we were all preoccupied with tying up 'The Far Side' nobody noticed and at this point it was pitch black, with the slightest sliver of light on the horizon. Even the dogs were so off guard they didn't bark once during the whole experience, first time EVER they're quiet with strangers around. The men finally announced who they were and split up in two groups spreading out over both boats with their guns. Sascha asked if she could shut off the engine of The Far Side as we didn't even have time to do that before these men were on the boats and had to be followed into the cabin to turn off the engine. Then the odd comments started... Nathalie was in a small top and skimpy bottoms and asked if she could change, or put on some shorts. The main guy, who made the comments during the episode, said something along the lines of " There's no need, you look fine in what you have on" Next, we were making small talk about the crossing we just had and said we were looking forward to a shower and some warm freshly cooked food. The main officer made another comment along the lines of "You don't have to wait for us to leave to shower, we don't mind". The main guy ended up checking out the guys boat and gave them a really hard time. Luckily the officer who checked out our boat was pretty easy going and quiet which set our nerves at ease ever so slightly. Then as things were wrapping up is when I got the main guy making the comment about staying the night on our boat. Overall it was a fairly sketchy situation and since we were all so sleep deprived, exhausted from the long, difficult sail, it felt like the whole experience was a dream. We all brainstormed what we would do individually, us two girls on our own mostly, especially with the odd comments that were made. We were so exhausted all we could think was, thank god the boys were there, it most definitely helped diffuse the situation and most definitely deter the officers from other more extreme comments or who knows what else. Carolyn did a great job of filming while also helping me like a theatre nurse, as we did our first change of the on-engine fine particle fuel filter. Apart from a few drips of diesel from my gloves, the job went about as well as we could have asked for. We found that we needed to bleed air from the new filter. That was a simple job. A 10mm spanner loosened the bleed screw and four or five pumps of the manual priming bulb brought up diesel that cleared the air. We used paper towel to catch the little bit of diesel that came out at the end of the priming process. Then the engine was content; it started and ran beautifully.

Sailing brings people together in the most wonderful ways, and can help you to live in the NOW! After a week and nearly 1,100 nm sailed the crew is in the zone. We've fallen into a healthy cycle of sleep, eat, watch, and repeat. We've shared stories and intimate moments, laughs and meals. And so it's a very bitter-sweet moment when we realize we have less than 1 day until we arrive in Panama. We make the most of it by hoisting our giant down wind sails on our dual-pole setup. It goes smoothly until a mishap with timing on our fore guy brings the pole flying back ad Jade's head and gives her a good whack. She powers through and we ice her down, and the reward is the amazing display of flying both head sails powering Delos dead downwind. We have an incredible afternoon of sailing and douse sails just before we're hit by a line of squalls at night. The crew reflects on what an amazing passage it's been and how much (or how little) we're looking forward to exploring Panama! The first time we have felt seasick in years. After sailing offshore across an ocean to get here, a quick day sail between islands should have been a walk in the park, but with 30 knots of wind kicking up a rough sea our stomachs were not too happy. The rough sail was worth it though as we tied up in the harbour of the tropical island of La Digue with it's giant tortoises and lack of cars, a gem of an island to explore. We have been sailing around the world for over 5 years after setting off from England in 2016 on board our 37ft sail boat Florence. Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V700 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. After a packed few weeks of sailing in various parts of the world, our feet are firmly planted back on Millie with plans to get her sailing again. Firstly though, we needed to address and fix what broke on the boat while we were away. Some strong winds passed through a few days before we came back and burst our fender, ripped lines and tore cleats out of the deck. So some repairs were in order as well as planning for our sail down to Madeira. Before we left the island and after our few days of work, we decided to get a last explore of Ponta Delgada in and walk around the 'fire lake', a stunning climb with jaw dropping views.
