... SUITE EN COMMENTAIRE EPINGLÉ

In this episode while sailing our Leopard 45 Catamaran in the Bahamas we discussed proper dinghy etiquette before doing more laundry - this time in Georgetown. Then we made our way to Prime Cay where we didn't see another person for two days! We had the place all to ourselves. Use your imagination. But, all good seclusion must come to an end. We picked up more friends and headed back to the Exuma Land and Sea Park, visiting O'Brien Cay, Warderick Wells, and Staniel Cay. These were great places to try out our new Bote floating dock. Be on the lookout for the Kosher shark and some of the oldest fossils in the world! Stick around to the end when we play our entire Wind Therapy theme song. Thank you to DAMON FOWLER for creating and performing such an amazing song for us. Sailing can be oh so good, bad or down-right unpredictable, dirty, and ugly! After spending time with the feral horses of Cumberland Island, it's time to continue sailing towards the Bahamas. And what a sail it was, maybe one of the best days we've had on the water yet. But of course, all good things in boat life must come to an end as we meet another bridge that just won't let us pass. We spend a couple of days in Grand Harbor in the Berry Islands, then sail down towards Nassau to hide out from the wind while we wait for our nephews to fly in for Thanksgiving. When out and about on a dinghy explore near Starfish Beach, Bocas del Toro, Panama we did not expect to stumble on a place that looks exactly like a postcard for a remote island in South East Asia, but we did! Breathtaking Bird Island, rising up out of nowhere with thousands of birds flying in out up and around it. Totally exotic and gorgeous. It's often hard to land the dinghy in super cool places like these but this time it wasn't too bad and there was even a small beach to hang out on, snap pictures and take in the sunshine when the morning cloud cover finally lifted. The ending to our delightful day was equally as impressive as exotic Bird Island: We spotted our first Sloth ashore at Starfish Beach and were totally blown away for a second time in one day! Pictures absolutely do not do these adorable guys justice and I may have lost my mind just a little bit. Being back into the full swing of cruising and a life on the hook means hanging out with friends for sundowners while watching the sunset which is exactly what we did post our epic Sloth sighting :) 0:00 Intro 1:34 Recap 2:19 Rainy Season in Panama 3:36 Dinghy ride to Bird Island 5:32 What an exotic island! 8:30 Cocktail on Starfish Beach 10:30 OMG a SLOTH 11:16 Chillin on the beach 12:25 Underway once again 15:55 Bloopers -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Enjoying our channel?

Please remember to subscribe. https://www.patreon.com/sailingmokara Transiting the Panama canal has been something we have been looking forward to for most on this trip. Its a significant marker, as not only is it an amazing engineering structure that has always fascinated us, but it’s also a big milestone in our journey. Its a change in oceans, with different sailing conditions such as tides and currents, and a change in hemispheres and countries. Once we are in the Pacific there is no going back! (Well there is - but at a large expense!) We’ve always dreamed of taking our own boat into the largest ocean on earth - The Pacific - and now we were finally doing it. COVID had set us back a year, so we had a lot of time to prepare. We used an agent to help us with the formalities and paperwork, and then counted the days until our crossing. As it turned out our buddy boat who we were separated from in the Caribbean when COVID hit had just made their way bak to us a day before we transmitted, so we were lucky enough to catch up with them and share the excitement of our travels to come in the Pacific together. When the day arrived we prepared the boat and removed all the items which could get in the way, such as Genoa sheets, rescue rings etc. We protected the solar panels by placing cockpit cushions on them. We filled up with fuel and were on our way to the anchorage to meet our advisor, who would help us through the first set of locks. Once Laurence our Advisor was on board we started lifting the anchor - only to find that it was hooked on an underwater cable. It took 3 people to lift it and eventually we got it off. Hopefully Shelter Bay marina did not loose any power because of us. In the first lock we found out we were going to tie up to a tug boat which was then tied to the wall of the canal. So we slowly moved Mokara alongside and tied up. It was amazing to feel us rise with the lock and all to soon we were getting ready to untie from the tug. To our surprise the tanker ahead of us had engaged his engines which sent a huge wash in our direction. Our boat was thrown around straining on the lines that were tied to the tug. After what seemed like ages but was probably only minutes the tanker had turned his engines off and the waters went calm again. Now we needed to release our lines from the tug, reverse slightly so that the tug could move forward into the next lock. Unfortunately the tug captain when a but faster than everyone expected and the power from the tugs engines sent us off sideways in the lock towards the back gates and wall. Shawn had to try everything to quickly gain control and stop us from hitting the huge concrete wall with our unprotected bows. we all held our breath as Shawn fought for control and brought Mokara back into position! Phew… The advisor had words with the tug asking him if we could try another strategy for the next lock. So instead of us reversing and allowing him to go first they decided it was better if we untied and moved into the lock first and the tug followed, passing us slowly and then allowing us to tie along side. This worked perfectly! We enjoyed the following 2 locks without a hitch and soon found ourselves in gate lake - the largest man made lake of its time. We motored towards the mooring ball and tied up for the evening. Celebrating with a well earned drink and hearty meal. We were all looking forward to the next day! Join us next week for Day 2 of our Panama Canal crossing. ► CARACTERISTIQUES TECHNIQUES Constructeur : Orphie Boats Architecte : Piaton/Bercault Matériau : CP/Epoxy Longueur : 8,98 m Largeur : 5,30 m Tirant d'eau : 0,35 m Déplacement : 1,85 t Motorisation : Torqeedo 50 kW Batteries : 40 kWh BMW i3 ► Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Multihulls World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/c/MultihullsWorld ► Log on to our website to discover over 500 multihulls tests! Winter has come. The temperatures just don't support applying fiberglass or painting the boat. So it's time to move down below and work on the interior. I'll also be able to start the wiring and cable routing. Most of the boats interior will be made at the shop, and of course ill be filming it all for your pleasure and amusement. We got a lot done this summer and I cant thank you all enough for spending a few minutes out of your day watching this..... well produced content lol...... in this episode, we play with numbers. This is a spreadsheet that I developed to help me plan various financial scenarios with the payment schedules and tax implications. This allowed me to plan the financial requirements and develop a strategy to spread the taxes over 4 years. The boat delivery date is timed with my retirement date. Of course, we have no idea what the future will bring but at least we can step into with some idea. Disclaimer This spreadsheet was developed and highly customized for the sole purpose to assist me. The state and local taxes will vary depending on where someone resides. This was developed in 2021 and tax rates and retirement rules could change in the following years. Various tax rates change every year and will require updating per tax year. There is no warranty explicit or implied on the accuracy of this spreadsheet and it is up to the user to verify all values. It’s great to have push buttons and gauges out in the cockpit for the Volvo Penta D2-75 diesel engine, but what happens if the electronics have a day off? Here is a demonstration of how to start the engine manually. Hopefully it’s not an emergency when you need to do this, but it’ll probably feel like one if the engine didn’t start when you wanted it to. We keep the short wire we made up for jumping the relay socket in the second drawer in the galley. Two of them actually. You need this to be handy. Keep in mind that a paper clip will do the job if needed. Edit: Once the engine has started you can remove the cable. What are the symptoms of a faulty MDI box? For us, it was the engine stopping for no apparent reason. The MDI was generating its own ‘Stop’ commands, as if the stop button had been pushed. The engine did what it was told. I noticed that the helm engine control panel had switched off. Upon restarting it, the display went haywire, with random fault codes flashing rapidly, before it went off again. Wisely, Carolyn suggested that we let it rest for 10 minutes. I thought, ‘Don’t be silly!’, but it worked. The control panel came on normally and the engine started. It died again an hour or so later, so we left it off until we needed it to enter port the next morning. Volvo replaced the MDI box and we’ve had no further trouble with it. Some long-distance cruisers carry a spare.

That’s right! Our sailboat Zephyr ends up swapping saltwater for brackish water for a couple of days as we enter the Chagres River, Panama! This river is spectacular, sitting just past the opening to the Panama Canal and within a jungle! Tricky entrance, not sure the camera really did it justice but it really was a little terrifying! Was it worth the initial scare? Definitely! Once through it was the best night’s sleep we have had since moving aboard Zephyr! Once we are settled in the river, James gets to work in investigating why our engine keeps failing, it’s pretty crazy when we finally get to the bottom of it! Glad that’s sorted! Although slightly disconcerting at first, cement is actually a really useful material in boatbuilding. Richard has been working on the Bulwark Staunchions, which are made of White Oak and will support the Bulwarks, a kind of fence around the perimeter of the deck. Pete has been making the aftermost deck beam, or transom cleat, which will support the end of the deck strakes. —- To become a Patron - https://www.patreon.com/sampsonboatco To donate or support - http://sampsonboat.co.uk/support My Amazon Wishlist http://a.co/76y5IZP For sneaky previews of what’s going on in between episodes, follow my FACEBOOK http://www.facebook.com/sampsonboatco and INSTAGRAM http://www.instagram.com/sampsonboatco. #Sailing #Frida af Wisby #Sailing along Portugal #Atlantic coast of Europe #SY Frida af Wisby #Sailing lifestyle #segla #Nasaré #Wauquiez 47 PS #Wauquiez 47 pilot saloon We sail to Nazaré hometown of monsterwaves so it's a surfers paradise and the sailors nightmare. We are a middle aged couple that has left our hectic business lives to go sailing with our boat Fridá af Wisby and our cat Litza. Our goal is not to go to a specific place but to reach a state of mind where we can really enjoy life. The sailing in our home water the Baltic Sea is part of our preparation to sail to the Mediterranean Sea. Anders has been at the sea most of his life and sailed for the Swedish national dingy sailing team as a young man. Gitte has also grown up with boat and spent every summer sailing with her father as a teenager but made a pause of about 15 years without sailing as an adult, had just begun to pick-up the interest before she meet Anders a 4 years ago. Onboard we also have our cat Litza a 3 year old Devon Rex we call her the cattain because cats always decide over their humans. Litza is a Devon Rex cat and she is the real cattain aboard. Fridá af Wisby is a Wauquiez 47 pilot saloon that we Gitte and Anders bought in UK in 2019 and that we have sailed to Gotland and in season 1 2020 we sail in the Baltic Sea.
