The Freedom Convoy is a series of ongoing protests in Canada against COVID-19 vaccine mandates and passports. The convoy was originally created to protest vaccine mandates for crossing the United States border, but it has evolved into a protest about COVID-19 restrictions for all Canadians. We have been extremely hopeful federal vaccine passport requirements will soon be lifted give Canadians back their right to leave Canada regardless of their vaccination status.

Lots of gulf cart provisioning fun fitting in groceries worth more than 800$ for two boats on one cart! Ouch! The beginning of our nearly 3000nm Atlantic crossing wanting to take the Gulf Stream Route (400nm longer than the direct way – why would you do that?!) doesn’t go as planned… And once on the Gulfstream Autobahn we are constantly confronted with challenging, nasty weather patterns. Preparations for the Asia Expedition 2022/2023 are ongoing, and right now we have done caulking and pitching to seal the hull. The first thing is to caulk the deck with flax fibres to seal the seams. Then it is time for the pitching of the deck. This is done to keep the flax fibres in place once the ship is in the water. Pitch is a viscous liquid that exists naturally but can also be the sediment when distilling organic substances such as tar or petroleum. The pitch is being heated up to 290 degrees Celsius before the first pour, which burns the wood and fills the cracks. After it sets, the second pour fills the remaining gaps, and then the excess is scraped off.

Alam Anda (Alamanda) reef is arguably Bali's most beautiful reef. While most of the dive sites in Bali are shore dives, there are a few that one can reach by boat only. Alam Anda is one of those dive sites. Because of the boat access only, not many dive centres (actually scuba divers) choose to dive Alam Anda. Any diver that does not dive this stunning reef is surely missing out on one of Bali's most stunning reefs. As promised, here is a video of the first sail in my RS Vareo dinghy since last November. And as you can see, I get in lots of tangles while hoisting the spinnaker. Fortunately it wasn't a very windy day - maybe 10 knots wind. I am sitting further back than normal when sailing to windward as I wasn't sure how wide angle my newly purchased action camera really was, but clearly I needn't have worried. I have short legs, so need loose toestraps so that I can hike properly going to windward. (Yes I know I should point my toes more, I was being lazy). But loose straps means I feel wobbly offwind, hence I use both when the spinnaker's hoisted. My spinnaker hoists and drops were a bit more cautious than normal because I worried the camera might get hit, but again it wasn't an issue. Most of the time I am out sailing by myself, which makes it difficult to improve my techniques and speed, so I think the camera will be a useful self-coaching tool. I chose one with the widest angle possible and find that the remote control is essential. For now I have it fitted on the mast, I don't like the popular end of boom position. However, I want to get a good view of my tacking, looking both from aft and from the bow. Unfortunately the mounting brackets I have don't fit firmly enough to the bowsprit - and of course if I fitted the camera there it would prevent me from hoisting the spinnaker. Tiller mounting will result in filming wild swings as I tack. So where/how do you find it best to fit a camera that shows the whole cockpit? More to come when the weather improves. We are sailing back to Papua and we could not be happier! Triton Bay is a place we've heard a lot about but never visited but too get there we first had to make the crossing from Tual. Episode #226 : Season 8 : The Hawaiian Adventures : Taking the Anchor For A Walk Hello Friends, On this weeks episode I haul up anchor and make my way through the patchwork of coral reefs and point the bow towards the world famous Kaneohe Sandbar. My friend Cy has anchored his Mason 43 here countless times and talked me through the process: Motor up slowly watching the depth sounder and the color of the water. Once you feel your hull "bump" the sand drop the anchor and pay out about 10 ft of chain. back down to slightly set the anchor, then pay out more scope and swim ashore and carry the anchor out as far as you like. (if the tradewinds were blowing this would have required 2 anchors to do solo, one to hold you in place while you carried out the primary) It was SOOOO strange to intentional drive into a submerged beach and jump off the bow into 2ft of water! This week we finally get around to fitting out the Sprinter as a Camper Van. Like aways it looks like one weeks work but it has taken four weeks in total. Part of it is because it's a bit more difficult to get parts where we are in Portugal. Nothing like Amazon next day delivery service in the UK. So we lost a lot of time going around small shops to get things here and there. But we are very pleased with the final look which you will be able to see next week on episode 2. We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, two years after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. But for these people it's a dream, or may not even be a dream. We will look around and when the opportunity to help comes we will put our hands and hearts in to it.

Working on a Catamaran Sailboat is a steep learning curve! I think I made a mistake that caused a $500.00 repair! Sigh... I was prepping our generator to test all the functions and stretch it legs and I found a major problem. Our water pump has failed and we need to buy a new one! Going into the final day of the 44Cup Calero Marinas, Igor Lah’s Ceeref powered by Hrastnik 1860 held a strong 11 point lead. Normally this would have seen them packing their bags early, having won with a race to spare. However this is the 44Cup, home of high performance one designs and owner-drivers surrounded by Olympic medallists, America’s Cup and Volvo Ocean Race winners and nothing is ever certain. Ultimately the Slovenian team did win here in Lanzarote, but for several tense minutes victory seemed to have fully slipped through their fingers.

Top mark the top nine boats were separated by just 30m.
