After another run up the Exuma chain we make head to the Berry Islands for great times above and below the water. Posting on: https://www.facebook.com/sailinghangtime https://www.instagram.com/sailinghangtime/ -------------------------------------------- About us: We are a family of four who have been living on our boat for the past 4+ years with our two boys and our newest addition, a Havanese pup named Ruby. We worked hard in our 20's and 30's and built a company that has an amazing team managing it and allows us to work remotely and take time to enjoy this time with our fmaily. We love adventure, sports and an active lifestyle but also take pleasure in a great meal or a sunset gin and tonic. Boat life is challenging and busy but we have been learning as we go and have a great appreciation for the sailing community and the willingness of others to teach and share skills. Thanks for watching, please subscribe to our channel and throw us a like if you enjoy our videos.

Thanks to Athletic Greens for sponsoring today’s video! Lightening storm engulfs the anchorage and we gut our boat - a typical day in the life morning routine for the Evans! As our time to depart gets closer and closer we decide to give you a quick peak into what life has been like for us here. It's a typical morning followed by a not so typical afternoon! We have made the executive decision to turn the port cabin into our workshop/storage room. And that means modifications and upgrades! While we work furiously to get work done - lightning erupts and threatens the anchorage. We don't THINK anyone got hit, but that was the closest call we've had to date. Scary stuff! There's a new hole under our water line - we're getting ready for our stern tube! To get a 1 year supply of Vitamin D + 5 individual travel packs FREE with your first purchase, go to http://athleticgreens.com/mjsailing In this week's video we're focused heavily on our engine beds, and more specifically making a mock engine template so we can get all the proper placing without having to make adjustments to our 300 pound Yanmars. And in case you're newer to the channel, last winter we drove ourselves up to Maine to purchase two 2019 29 hp Yanmar diesel engines which came off an Antares catamaran. At the time we weren't sure which engine direction we were going to head, but the deal was just too good to pass up. So, we've been storing them in the tent ever since, and now we're working hard to get the engine beds prepped for them. Watch as Matt carefully crafts this template, and once it's in place, he figures out exactly how it will sit under our master berth. With a stern tube from Vetus on its way very soon, Matt finds the line and angle at which this will come out of our boat and drills a test hole from the engine bed and out through the bottom of our boat. One thing we really hope we don't mess up on! We hope you enjoy! Much love from Annapolis!
OK - we know what you are going to say: but it's a Gunboat! Of course a multi million dollar boat has better doors than most. Well, yes, a Gunboat does have the best of everything on board, but we have a 30 year old boat and the doors (well, the ones we haven't thrown out) still open and close perfectly well. We have always wanted to navigate the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal and finish by dropping anchor in the Bohemian River. Traveling from Cohansey, we had an easy 18NM passage to the entrance of the canal and a shorter 15NM journey through the canal. Once on the other side, it was a quick trip down to the beautiful Bohemian River. The next day we picked up anchor and set our sights on the crazy and shoal-y, Fairlee Creek. This inlet entrance should only be attempted at slack tide and preferably high slack. It was an adventure and added to our skill as cruisers. #sailing #sailboat #sailingprojects #delaware #maryland #c&Dcanal #c&D #cohansey #bohemianriver #fairleecreek #chesapeake NEW TO OUR CHANNEL? We are Eileen and Brown Councill. Welcome to our channel and a glimpse into our life adventure! 2020 was a year of uncertainty and change (for all of us, right?), but we overcame the challenges and decided it was time to chase our dream, to sail around the world! Did I mention that we had very NO sailing experience? Before leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our earthly possessions and started our international search to find the right sailboat that we would call "home." After 5 months of unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia. So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you. We are so glad you have decided to join us, and we hope that you will find our story so compelling that it will inspire you to chase your dreams too! As a viewer, we consider you to be part of our family and look forward to getting to know you. Don't hesitate to comment on our videos and ask questions. We will do our best to answer every correspondence! All we ask is that you have patience with us as we work really hard to improve our camera/video techniques and ability to tell a story. Hopefully, you will be as BLOWN AWAY from watching, as we are in experiencing and producing our adventures! HOW CAN YOU SUPPORT US? If you wish to support our video efforts, all we ask is that you SUBSCRIBE, give a THUMBS UP, SHARE our videos with your friends, AND COMMENT! WOULD YOU LIKE TO GET TO KNOW US MORE DEEPLY? We landed at Ty's restaurant, and it didn't take us long to find our way to the turtle whisperer, Dino. Lisa fed the turtles and then the turtles gave us a tour of the harbor! Every time we turned our back on these beautiful turtles, they came right back and demanded our attention. What an amazing experience! Little Farmers Cay is a MUST stop on the way down the Exumas. The clove hitch Along with the bowline and the sheet bend, it is often considered one of the most important knots to know. A clove hitch is two successive half-hitches around an object. It is most effectively used as a crossing knot. It can be used as a binding knot, but is not particularly secure in that role (we prefer the constrictor knot for these use cases). A clove hitch made around the rope's own standing part is known as either two half-hitches or buntline hitch, depending on whether the turns of the clove hitch progress away from or towards the hitched object. The Clove Hitch is the simplest and most effective knot for securing your fenders. It can be tied and untied in seconds if you finish it on on a bight which creates the slipped clove hitch. The slipped clove hitch is one of the easiest fender knots to untie we would only recommend these for short stays or when you a remaining on the boat while docked. If you will be leaving your boat for an extended period of time the Round Turn with two Half Hitches another option to consider. If you want to learn some other skills for docking your boat why not check out our video which compares the Cleat Hitch V OXO for tying your mooring lines to fixed cleats. https://youtu.be/LepMcTJuFfI If you want to learn the other knots mentioned above check out the links below.

As we continue our trek south, we soak up as much of the beautiful sunrises and sunsets as we can, trying to warm our souls (and fingers... since we can't find our gloves). As time passes by and our activities are limited because of the cold weather, Katy and I start to feel a bit cooped up. Hey, it happens. It is tough living in a small space surrounded by water that you don't want to swim in because it's so cold outside and having to keep pushing in an attempt to find warmer climate. After what seemed like an endless string of days chilled to the bone, we are pleasantly surprised by a sun filled day and a 70 degree afternoon to take the chill off before arriving in Charleston, SC. We are breaking down on Calico Skies but being anchored in 'Hot Tub' (called so thanks to a weather phenomenon occurring in the summer when the water heats up) San Blas, things could be worse! We've been working our way through the beautiful island group here in Panama and have exploring, diving and beautiful beaches to distract us from the broken water maker, batteries, dinghy (holes) and alcohol stove (which isn't broken but is filled with diluted denatured alcohol which we grabbed mistakenly in Bocas del Toro when provisioning). We tucked into this calm spot with good holding after navigating the coral reefs that surround it’s entrance and have discovered a peaceful paradise. Turquoise waters and white sand beaches abound. After 'borrowing' water from our buddy boat s/v Delos we hit a new beach and enjoy a snorkel with our friends. Later we have a bonfire with Brian, Kazza & Nugs plus new friend Plucky from Sailing into Freedom. We grill fish over the fire and bring homemade pitas and guac - painstakingly prepared on our slow stove! The highlight of the evening is grilled fish EYE which Bill tries to get down but ends up gagging on. The next day we're back on Calico Skies and burning amps to make salty water. We discuss power usage and water consumption rates and explain what's going on with our water maker, namely damaged water membranes. After doing laundry over on Delos - Buddy Boats for the win!- we head back to the beach and Grace dives a phenomenal spot and sees squid for the first time, all hanging out in a row together. There's other new sea creatures too and even though the snorkel mask is also broken it's still a fantastic experience. 0:00 Intro 1:21 Pirating water off Delos 3:10 Off to the beach! 6:30 Laundry day 8:01 Weak cooking fuel 9:26 But hey at least we can charge phones for the Guna! 10:21 Preparing for a beach fire 12:00 Beach Bonfire 13:58 Massive Ice on the fridge 😜 15:15 Watermaker issues 20:15 Back in the water! -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Enjoying our channel?
