Don't remove your car thermostat, it will kill engine performance and your going to freeze in winter. So let's go over what the thermostat does and why you shouldn't remove it, or you can just watch the video. Still reading? Let's dive in. So we all know that gas ain't cheap, well that little thermostat plays a key role in getting your engine up to best operating temperature. How this works you may ask? Basically, when the engine is cold, the thermostat is closed, preventing water from being cooled by the radiator. This forces only the water in the engine and heater core to circulate in a closed loop allowing the engine to heat up faster. Because the engine heats up faster it will reach optimal temperature faster reducing cold engine fuel burn. Anyone who has driven a carbureted car knows how bad they usta run when cold. The reason this happens is the fuel ration to air is much higher because either the car computer or choke has enriched it. If the thermostat is removed this will take much longer. Now let's talk about your winter comfort. Above you saw that the engine will run in a closed cooling loop when cold. Well this helps you greatly when the weather is a little nippy because the heater core warms up faster. You may ask what is a heater core? Well it is a small radiator that is in your cars air conditioner that extracts heat from the engine coolant and keeps you toasty. I know this all too well when my heater core busted and I bypassed it just so I could drive. Those were some cold times. After tearing down the van, Amanda and Geoff make their way toward Cannon Beach, Oregon. When they arrive at Tolovana State Park, they are greeted by some very cute visitors. They continue their walk toward Haystack Rock where they encounter an unexpected ecosystem including crabs and sea stars. They proceed to make their way to a hidden gem for breakfast: the Lazy Susan Cafe. They tell all about the famous Marionberry Scone that was consumed. The duo continue driving south where they end up at Oswald State Park. Amanda and Geoff proceed down a hiking path to visit the infamous Devils Cauldron—where they make a wrong turn. After a long walk back to the van, they decide to reward their efforts with ice cream from Tillamook Creamery. The Mittens tour the cheese making facility before rating six different flavors of ice cream. The couple continues their journey to Lincoln City, Oregon before visiting the Chinook Casino for a bit. As you know, I am a keen dinghy racer, usually racing two or three times a week year round. So I was happy to give something back when my club, Torpoint Mosquito SC, https://www.tmsc.org.uk/ asked me to be race officer for their inaugural Solo open meeting. https://www.solosailing.org.uk/ Even for a small event (18 racers in this case) there's always a lot of organisation. This time there were 11 club members involved, some manning the safety and mark laying boats, others on shore accepting entries and calculating the results. And then three of us on the committee boat, as fortunately I was being ably assisted by Emma and Doug. For it needs at least three people to start and, especially, to finish a race. It's common for boats to finish overlapped, and even the tail enders need to have their positions accurately recorded. Then results have to be calculated allowing for 1, sometimes 2 discards. Fortunately, although the wind went round 180 deg after setting out the first course and laying buoys ( the mark laying crew had a real workout on what was the hottest day of the year) it then stayed fairly consistent and we managed to run three windward leeward races, each lasting 40 minutes. Although this video starts with a start and ends with a finish the clips are in random order from a fixed point as the camera was actually being used to record the starts and finishes. And as always with my short videos there's no audio. So no irritating music or wind noise

Todo el programa transcurre navegando por la ría de Vigo en nuestro barco de vela FORTUNA NUEVE llamado ARISTOS TRES. Salimos del puerto de Punta Lagoa con un viento del suroeste de unos trece a quince nudos. Decidimos ofrecer la amura de babor al barco y comenzar a navegar en ceñida. Ya sabéis que ceñir es de pobres… Damos unos bordos y acabamos delante del puerto de Cangas do Morrazo dando la aleta de estribor al viento y así navegamos a un largo. Luego pasamos a la popa para navegar a orejas de burro. Nuestra derrota se dirige a la playa de La Borna, en el concello de Moaña, la península del Morrazo. Al llegar, fondeamos y nos ponemos a hacer una barbacoa en la popa. Comemos, descansamos un poco y vuelta a surcar la ría de Vigo para acabar al atardecer delante del puerto. Mile hammock Bay was the best anchorage so far on the ICW, On the way to our next stop we saw DOLPHINS in the wild for the first time, we thought we would see them farther down south like Florida, but we got to share the way with them, It was so amazing there are tons of them everywhere. We also rubbed bottom and waited hours for the bridges to open. For some classes it’s not unusual for a world championships to look much like their normal racing programme. But when the Swan One Design World Championships rolled into the Spanish city of Valencia for theirs it was clear that this would be different - 34 Teams - 13 nationalities - 3 classes But what makes this event particularly special with owners and crews is Swan's recipe that combines amateur with professionals to deliver some impressively close racing across three very different types of boats. PlanetSails' Matt Sheahan was there to report on how the Swan One Design worlds played out, why it works and how three teams became world champions.

I sail across the North Atlantic from Newfoundland to Ireland in early July 2022. I am very fortunate in my selection of wx window, as the passage is almost like a Trade Wind passage (except the cold and fog). I discuss the issues of "seaworthiness" and the pros and cons of removeable forestays. I ask whether one should motor through a low wind zone, or sit it out. The passage took 13 days.

I have been getting to know Monaco Yacht Club a lot better this year, and there is far more to it than meets the eye. Amongst the many events that they organise is the "Energy Boat Challenge", designed to motivate universities and companies to dig deep into their resources and find alternative methods to propel a boat.

After two weeks of our lives revolving around lithium batteries its nice to break it up with some good old fashion rescue puppies and Ryan spends the week thinking he's a supermodel now on Sunday. We are so happy our friends on Artemis decided to adopt Bodhi our little black rescue pup and give him the best home ever! Our 5 rescue puppies have officially moved out and are now at a rescue center called SXM paws awaiting their forever homes! #160 Jamaïque partie 2 ✍️Le village de port Antonio dort encore. Blacky ne bouge pas. Nous nous accordons une journée loin de lui. Direction Kingston, la capitale, à 94 kilomètres. Distance qui, si nous la convertissons en milles nautiques, s’avoisine aux 50. Et qui, si nous nous basons sur une vitesse moyenne de 5 nœuds, nous ferait arriver en 10 heures. Alors autant dire que nous n’allons pas chipoter pour les 2 heures 40 de bus local qui nous attendent ! Et puis il y a le côté vrai, ce côté où l’on se retrouve avec la population locale, où l’on nous prend pour des voyageurs et non pour des touristes. On observe ce qui est d’usage pour se fondre à la masse, ou plutôt dans un terme plus exact, pour s’agglutiner aux passagers ! Le bus est complet, que dis-je, bondé ! Cul contre cul, si l’on tergiverse, on est foutu ! Il faut s’imposer pour pouvoir s’adosser ! C’est une technique, mais une fois que nous sommes calés, il n’y a plus qu’à patienter. L’inspiration d’une telle expédition nous vient du King of reggae, Marley Robert Nesta. Au pays de ce symbole national, nous ne pouvions décemment pas faire escale sans faire un pèlerinage sur ses traces. C’est une légende, un phénomène mondial. Cet homme a réussi à réunir, à rassembler, à véhiculer des messages de paix par sa musique. Ses talents de chanteur, auteur-compositeur, l’on amenait à faire le tour du monde et à partager sa ferveur pour le rastafarisme. En sa demeure, réhabilitée aujourd’hui en musée, l’émotion reste palpable. On y découvre sa chambre, ses vêtements de scène, ses disques d’or. La voix de Bob semble encore s’élever pour chanter « no woman, no cry » ! De cette capitale natale du « Lion », c’est à peu près tout ce dont nous aurons le temps de visiter, mais quelle expérience ! Dans le bus retour, le scenario est le même. On s’insère, on se cale et on évite de trop bouger pour garder un semblant de confort ! En considérant toute la manutention qu’il va nous falloir pour faire le plein de gasoil de Black Lion en bidonnant, nous pouvons facilement inclure cette opération, dans nos activités sportives. Nous en avons bien besoin. La prochaine navigation va être mouvementé, un peu d’exercice ne peut pas nous faire de mal ! Dans ce sens, accéder au point de vue qui surplombe la baie d’Antonio va nous faire le plus grand bien. Nous crapahutons sur le macadam, l’ascension bordée de cette dense végétation est plaisante. Au bout, un vieil immeuble délabré et au plus haut, le panorama dominant de notre abri s’étire vers l’horizon. La fenêtre météo se précise pour après-demain, ce qui nous laisse encore deux jours dans ce jardin des Caraïbes pour profiter de la chlorophylle. Après nous être essayés à la A3, route qui mène à la côte sud-est, nous nous risquons sur 38 kilomètres de la A4, plein Est, pour nous rendre aux Reach Falls. Cette fois-ci nous ferons le trajet en taxi-co. Pas de strapontin, en revanche mon Tchoupi va devoir me porter sur ses genoux, rentabilité oblige ! Sur la piste cabossée, des nuages de poussière s’élèvent, notre chauffeur essai d’éviter les trous. Pour atteindre nos fameuses cascades, nous devions dans un premier temps aller jusqu’à Manchioneal, trouver ensuite un moyen de locomotion pour les 6 kilomètres restant et enfin repérer l’accès dissimulées au cœur de la forêt. Mais ça c’était notre programme avant que notre taximan nous propose de nous amener directement à notre point visé. Encore mieux, orientés par Stichy, nous passons par l’entrée officieuse, celle des locaux ! J’aurais presque pu me faire avoir en descendant par la tyrolienne, notre guide à de l’humour ! Mais je serais passée à côté de cette fabuleuse randonnée. Il faut bien assurer nos pieds, repérer les roches sans mousse pour éviter de glisser. Dans cette eau cristalline ce n’est pas bien compliqué ! L’eau est fraiche, la nature dans toute sa splendeur. Les arbres trompette font de l’ombre aux fougères et juste au détour d’une bambouseraie frémissante, dans une des sinuosités de la rivière, la première d’une série de piscines naturelles se dévoile. On les verra toutes, jusqu’à la dernière, pour finir devant les chutes, origines de leur clarté. Sur une note de reggae nous savourons notre dernière soirée Jamaïcaine. L’odeur de la ganja, les couleurs rasta, la peace and love attitude, les taxis bondés, les marchés coloré. After a month in Gibraltar, it was finally time for us to leave the Queensway Quay Marina behind and sail across the Med to Croatia. There, we’d be reunited with the belongings we shipped from Australia over 12 months earlier! Our preparations for the passage were interrupted when a motor yacht lost control in the marina, almost crashing into the boats around it, and heading straight for a collision with side of Liger.
