Purtroppo siamo dovuti volare in Italia in Settembre per una ventina di giorni e questo, oltre ad aver cambiato un pochino i nostri piani, ha rallentato parecchio la nostra produzione di video. Faremo meglio! In questo episodio approdiamo alle Mamanuca, un arcipelago di isolette situato a Ovest di Viti Levu e che, insieme alle Yasawa, si estende da Nord Est a Sud Ovest. Le prime che esploriamo sono le isole di Malolo e Malolo Lailai, molto turistiche, molto conosciute fra i naviganti. Sono collegate fra loro da una lingua di sabbia che emerge durante la bassa marea. Malolo Lailai e' sede di un piccolo marina e di numerosi resort "yacht friendly". L'area e' conosciutissima come "Musket Cove". Nelle acque antistanti e' installato un ampio campo boe. L'ampia baia e' riparatissima, ci sono numerosi reef da esplorare e con il dinghy si puo' visitare il Bar-ristorante-pizzeria flottante "Cloud 9" (a circa 2,8 miglia) oppure immergersi nella pass fra le isolette Namotu e Tavarua (a circa 4 miglia). The first of the rudder fittings is complete after putting some thought into a jig for the fabrication and alignment. I also assemble the sail drive to get it ready for putting back into the boat. This is the story of the building of a Jay Benford designed, 31.8ft, junk schooner-rigged cruising sailboat. 1999 Manta 40 has been professionally modified to extend the length to 46’. The sugar scoop transoms were lengthened for better performance in a boatyard by a pro fiberglass specialist. The original Manta mast was replaced with a 3’ taller mast and the custom bow sprit was also added. From West End Bahamas to Charleston SC - not a big deal by itself, but for me, been a beginner solo sailor this was the longest solo passage - 405nm. Not to mention in the Gulf Stream - this was a magnificent sail and a life changing experience. The night, alone in the warm, humid ocean, so full of life and vibrant colors was absolutely amazing. We’re on our way north again to Australia’s Great Barrier Reef and already the fish are being hauled in while we sail. Hello From the Sea..... Welcome to the Episode 1 of Horizon Tales. In this VLOG I am going to show you the Navigation and communication equipments we have in our Navigation Bridge of the ship. A detailed tour of the Ship's Cockpit aka Wheelhouse. A brief introduction of all the equipments and their use. Merchant ships carry a specific number of Navigation and communication equipments. The requirement is as per the size and trading pattern of the Vessel. There are certain guidelines those are to be followed regarding carriage of navigation equipments. I am onboard a Capesize Bulk Carrier which is on Foreign going route. The equipments we have onboard the ship assisst us in Planning and monitoring of a safe voyage. Technology has evolved a lot, specially in the Maritime industry. I still remember during my innitial days at Sea, when i was a Deck cadet. We use Paper charts for Voyage planning.
