Hope town has it all. Grocery stores, liquor stores, church, play ground, pool, bars, restaurants, bingo thursdays, bottomless mimosa Sundays, trash disposal and a beautiful beach stretching along the east side of Elbow Cay. Unfortunately the hurricane that came through the Bahamas in 2019, did a lot of damage, and you can see the amount of work put in to rebuild what used to be. Still, some things will probably not come back, but there are marks that can’t be erased. So as we were waiting for a storm to come in, we took an hour to explore and inhale some fresh air, hoping to maybe find some people along the way. About 3 years ago, I signed up for something called the Young Cruisers Association, without really knowing what it was. Little did we know that half of the harbour in Hope Town were members, and as we randomly got invited to the bonfire on the beach a few days ago – we met them all. The founders as well as a rad tribe of young cruisers. And now – we could acquire a burgee and fly it high, knowing that this is what cruising should be all about. This is life, NOT retirement! xoxo, Cody, Therese & Millie Breeze A Sailing V-Log SUPPORT US: Check us out on Patreon | https://www.patreon.com/sailingvinyasa -and join our adventure behind the scenes! I'm seeing out 2022 in style, doing laundry 😎 This week I also chat about cutting hair onboard - including an ancient photo of me with my hair at its longest! The heating is fixed but I can't find the header tank to add anti-freeze to, and instead examine a weird metal box that no-one seems to know what it is? Any ideas out there on this one? I have also procured a tripod for my phone this week, wahay!! So hopefully recording content will be a little bit easier going forward. Next up is a bodge job in the windy weather, and a disaster in the shower that no boater ever wants - but at least it wasn't a leak!

Trouble is- we were in a pandemic, had a university degree to finish, on a student budget, only had ever sailed dingies, oh and didn’t have a boat. The dream seemed not only unrealistic but pretty insane. However, we worked hard, finished our degrees, worked as many hours as physically possible, saved with all our might, got experience and in March 2022 bought our very own sailboat, Teulu. Having little sailing experience and being a young couple, we have encountered a tonne of hurdles and made plenty of mistakes! but for every downfall, there has always been a reason to dust ourselves off and carry on. We hope you can join us as we sail around the world and keep #bloodydoingit #sailing #boatlife

The Sydney Hobart is one of the pre-eminent mixed-fleet yacht races in the world. The race takes place every year starting on December, 26, Boxing Day, and this year more than 100 yachts ranging from 34-100 feet embarked on the challenging 628 nautical mile race from Sydney to Hobart, and across the notorious Bass Straight. The race attracts the top monohull racers from across the globe, but there is one curious thing that separates the Sydney Hobart from other major mixed-fleet races around the world: The Sydney Hobart doesn’t allow multihulls. But why exactly is that? Only the race organizers know for sure but I have a pretty good idea. A while back I did a video on why multihulls are so fast, where I compared Comanche, who won line honours in this years’ Sydney Hobart, with IDEC Sport, the fastest trimaran to circumnavigate the globe. And while IDEC Sport wasn’t even on the podium in this year’s Route du Rhum, so it isn’t even a fast trimaran by today’s standards, it’s still close to 50% faster than Comanche. This means multihulls are pretty much assured to get line honours, or first to finish, in any mixed fleet race they are allowed to enter. To level the playing field in mixed fleet races, there is generally some kind of handicap system which gives the slower boats a chance to win on corrected time, but the real prize for many is line honours, or first to finish, regardless of handicap. There is just something about being the first boat to cross the line that isn’t quite there when winning on corrected time. So line honours is a big deal for the fastest boat owners, their skippers, and perhaps most importantly their sponsors. This years’ Sydney Hobart line-honours leaders are Andoo Comanche, LawConnect, Black Jack, and last but not least, Hamilton Island Wild Oats, which has won line honours a staggering nine times. These are all Australian owned or chartered boats, and sponsored by Australian or regional companies or events that have close affiliations with the owners or charterers. For example, John Winning Jr, is an Australian appliance mogul, and his sponsor Andoo is a major regional appliance retailer, so winning line honours in the Sydney Hobart is a big deal for both him and his sponsors. Now if we look at another major mixed fleet race, the Fastnet, which is slightly longer but takes place in the waters off the UK and France, we start to get a sense of why the Sydney Hobart organizers don’t want multihulls: Pretty much all of the major ocean racing multihull campaigns in the world are owned, skippered, and sponsored by the French. So including multihulls in the Sydney Hobart would all but guarantee that Australian owners, skippers, and sponsors would be ousted from the line honours podium and replaced by the French, and because sponsorship is such a big deal that’s a bitter pill the race organizers don’t want to swallow. Of course it could also promote Australian investment in major multihull campaigns, but that’s a risk the race organizers aren’t willing to take, at least for now. 3 Weeks of hard work here in Shelter Bay Marina in Panama sorting out my electrical problems and even upgrading my power storage to 17,5 kwh. If this is a new world record for express refit upgrades and rebuilds after a lightning strike I don't know. But being in Panama things takes time and to have all this done by myself this fast with everything I needed is more than I ever could dream about. It feels like a miracle that something bigger than me is taking good care of me. Still, a few things to sort out, and my radar system is still not back up and running. Nevertheless, I'm really thankful and happy to have come this far in such a short time. If you wonder why I have been so quiet on all platforms lately, this is the reason. Staying in a marina is expensive and just had to be hard in prioritizing my time and energy. This is not a how-to video but more about sharing my way of thinking and problem-solving. Also not in detail wiring but focusing on the challenges I faced when planning and proceeding with my upgrade. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR WATCHING AND SUBSCRIBING! Most of the time I sail singlehanded but occasionally I do have sailing friends onboard. Still in the Caribbean due to Covid and was supposed to be in Asia by now. Even though this is season 4 on youtube I did not make that many videos in the beginning. Before full-time sailing, I have sailed several seasons in the Med prior to this, and obviously also in Scandinavia. I have been traveling the world before and have also been an active regatta sailor. I had my first sailboat at age 7 and have been sailing ever since. Also, more than 10 years of experience in Search and Rescue at sea in Norway. PLEASE BE KIND IN THE COMMENTS! I'm just a normal person sharing my travel adventure through my eyes and experience from my perspective! Remember how I do things that might work for me but not for you. It might even not be the correct way to do things, and I don't have the blueprint either. I'm not perfect and nobody is. The day I believe I know it all and don't think I can learn new things I should go ashore.

Mi Ryong Yee is a world class naval architect. Her journey is inspirational as she studied as a traditional architect before making the transition to Naval architecture. This and her artistic approach to naval architecture is, believe it or not, the inspiration behind the interior design of the Seawind 1370. In this episode, lead designer for the 1370, Miryong Yee, chats with Nick to explain her approach to the design, what she prioritised and how she created the illusion of more space inside the narrow hulls. In this 360 VR Paragliding video I take off at 400 meters and climb straight up to the clouds at 800 meters. Just using rising air currents to go up, without the use of an engine on my paraglider. This version has almost no cuts, so you can see the whole paragliding flight. The paragliding flight is filmed on a Gopro Max. The 360 VR paragliding flight took place in Alanya Turkey. To just see some of the highlights, here is a quick overview: At 7 minutes I’m circling right above the takeoff spot looking out for lift. We are two crazies from South Africa, Frik & Petro. We knew absolutely nothing about sailing, but the ocean has always been calling. So we got rid of all our stuff, bought a Leopard 45 Catamaran, and set sail. Follow us as this story unfolds! This is a sea-life adventure captained by a couple of nomads who have built their lives on doing what inspires them in the moment. Join us and see how we break free of the traditional lifestyle, creating videos of our journey, adventures, life on board, and lessons learned along the way. It will be super rewarding if we can be an inspiration or contribute in any way to anybody wanting to fulfill their dreams. SISU (Finnish concept) is a grim, gritty, white-knuckle form of courage in situations where success is against the odds. Taking action against the odds and displaying courage and resoluteness in the face of adversity, in other words, deciding on a course of action and then sticking to that decision even despite repeated failures.

Having a passion for renewable energy and the environment, Will has decided to complete his Solo Non Stop sail as the first person to do so without carrying or using any fossil fuels throughout the voyage and making his boat carbon neutral or carbon negative. Will aims to become the first person to sail around the world non stop solo without carrying or using any fossil fuels for the voyage. He also is working towards making the boat carbon neutral or carbon negative. Every item on the boat will be run from electricity that has been gathered from either solar panels or hydrogenation technology attached to the boat. Although people have completed solo navigations with electric engines they have always carried back up generators and gas to cook. Will plans to go one step further and remove all fossil fuels and any temptation to use them. He will be using products on the boat which are able to be recycled and repurposed, and products that don’t harm the environment. Thank you very much, you guys are amazing supporting us with your likes and comments, we really feel that we have a new family out there. Much love Carla & Simon A little bit about us... We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, two years after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. But for these people it's a dream, or may not even be a dream. We will look around and when the opportunity to help comes we will put our hands and hearts in to it.

The first IMOCA In-Port Race in Alicante had everything we could hope for: unexpected changes in the leaderboard, shifty conditions and a worthy winner. A unique situation in the VO65 Alicante In-Port Race: only one boat crossed the finish line!! When Poland's WindWhisper Racing Team skippered by Pablo Arrarte finished the course it started a 15-minute countdown for the rest of the fleet to finish. Due to light winds, no one else was able to complete the in-port race and so the 5 other VO65s are all scored as DNFs. #MaseratiMulti70 #RORCTransatlanticRace Sito web: https://maserati.soldini.it/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/giovannisoldini/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/giovanni_soldini/ Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/giovannisoldini/

We arrive into San Carlos in the Sea of Cortez Mexico looking to hide from a massive hurricane that is less than 24 hours away. Because of our shallow draft and small size (36ft length, 4'2 draft) we are lucky to score a slip in a marina that is fully packed. We move from the anchorage into our spot which offers 360 degree protection and waste no time preparing for the big storm. First we add extra docklines then we remove our bimini to reduce windage. We secure the headsail, tighten our sail cover and make sure all lines are very secure. The rain begins to come in by late afternoon and the sky looks ominous. Our friends on SV Delos and SV OneLife are out in the anchorage where the motion is already beginning to increase. At 5 am Bill awakens to see a gust of over 40 knots. Calico Skies is relatively steady in our very protected slip and the motion is nothing to complain about. Meanwhile out in the anchorage it's a different story and our friends on OneLife describe a scene of violent chop, screaming winds and dragging boats. We take a walk when conditions begin to subside though winds are still over 35 knots sustained. From our position in the marina looking out into the harbor we bear witness to the dragging boat and watch as it creeps towards the shoreline. All the boats in the anchorage are pitching violently back and forth and we have never been more happy to have a small sailboat! The next day we begin to undo all the work we did yesterday and prepare Calico Skies to sail again. A dinghy ride to the harbor reveals that a total of two boats dragged and were shipwrecked on the beach. It's a devastating sight and hard to see one of our worst fears realized by fellow cruisers. ~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Enjoying our channel?
