From here we fly further East across France to the Mediterranean coast and the yards of Catanna and their Bali brand. Finally we hop just a little inland to the Languedoc- Roussillon wine region and the vinyards of this week's wine pairing… Le Bijou de Sophie Valrose Le Bijou de Sophie Valrose is named after a lady who worked in the Languedoc vineyards during the late 19th century and became something of a local hero. At the time, it was largely women who worked in the vineyards; pruning and harvesting the vines. Sadly these women were often mistreated, over-worked and under-paid. Sophie fought for women's rights and drastically improved working conditions for her fellow women in the vineyard in which she worked. Bijou is a tribute to her memory and we share her story on the back of every bottle sold. Our rosé is made from grapes sourced from handpicked bush vines, alike those that Sophie would've harvested herself many years ago. The grapes are sourced from low-yielding old vines on the sloping hillsides of various vineyards in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of southern France. The areas are made up of old volcanic soils composed of 70% schist, which helps create high-quality grapes with great structure and freshness. The grapes are hand-harvested, de-stemmed and gently crushed. Indigenous yeasts are used to ferment the wine for 15 to 18 days in temperature controlled stainless vats. Fermentation takes place at low temperatures of 14-16 ° to preserve the delicate fruit flavours. Each grape variety is harvested and vinified separately and then finally blended together to create a perfectly balanced wine. FINALLY a good drone that you that isn't going to end up on the bottom of the ocean! For us guys flying drones from boats the whole business of getting aerial footage can become an expensive and nerve wracking nightmare... well not anymore! I've lost four DJI drones to the bottom of the ocean so far, one because a super yacht had a jammer to stop paparazzi snooping on VIP's ( I wasn't! I was filming the classic yacht racing off Monty Carlo) One had a battery fault and performed a perfect auto landing 100 yards behind the boat and sank as we sailed away! One inexplicably lost control and ditched and one was a bad take off from me while sailing single handed, I clipped the solar arch. All of these resulted in the loss of a drone and all would have been absolutely fine if I had been flying a Power Egg X. I would simply have gone back and picked up the floating drone. I've had a waterproof drone before, the Swellpro Splash drone, but this was an expensive failure. So I'm very happy to report the Power Eggs is the first usable waterproof drone I've flown and I'm looking forward to an enjoyable seasons flying from the boat instead of dreading losing another expensive piece of machinery every time I want a shot of us sailing from the air. Lezioni di Vela - Sicurezza La zattera di salvataggio - Episodio 11 La zattera di salvataggio, è la protagonista dell'undicesimo video-episodio di Scuola di VELA, in cui scopriamo come effettuare una manovra perfetta su una barca da crociera. La zattera di salvataggio, entro quali limiti deve essere a bordo Come abbiamo visto nel recente articolo sulle dotazioni di sicurezza 2023, la zattera di salvataggio è obbligatoria per la navigazione oltre le 6 miglia, ma averla a bordo, nella speranza di non doverla mai usare, non basta. E’ importante essere consapevoli del contenuto della zattera e saper scegliere il modello giusto per le nostre esigenze e per il numero massimo di persone che può ospitare la nostra barca. Se navighiamo sotto la bandiera Italiana, ci sono questi obblighi: 1 - 6 NM: nessun obbligo di zattera a bordo 6 - 12 NM: obbligo di zattera di tipo costiero, secondo la ISO 9650-2 oltre 12NM: obbligo di zattera di tipo oceanico, secondo la ISO 9650-1 Nel video episodio di oggi, vediamo bene come è costruita una zattera di salvataggio per la navigazione oltre le 12 miglia, e quali sono i suoi equipaggiamenti. La revisione obbligatoria della zattera di salvataggio Acquistando una zattera nuova, vi sarà rilasciato un certificato con tutte le caratteristiche della zattera, e la sua data di prossima revisione. Ogni due anni (tre per quella costiera) dovrete far revisionare la zattera dal costruttore. I costi di revisione, variano a seconda del tipo di zattera, dello stato di usura dei componenti, e del contenuto dei kit di salvataggio integrati nella zattera. We set sail in hopes to move further down the Spanish coast before a gale is predicted. In Vilagarcía we meet up with fellow cruisers and take the train to visit Santiago de Compostela. Ría de Arousa, is supposedly the largest and best protected ría in the area, there is only one problem... The gale is hitting with southerly winds and all the anchorages are either only protected from the north, or completely cluttered with marine farms.
