After making a responsible pit stop to try the local bar, we set sail to another island, Cayos Hollandes, which lay conveniently just around the corner! Es wird der kürzeste Flug in der Geschichte der Drohnen. Jetzt ruht sie mitten im Atlantik, auf rund 6000 Metern Tiefe. Das Ziel beinahe vor Augen, verlässt uns der Wind. In den letzten 48 Stunden verlieren wir gut einen halben Tag. Und dann treten die ersten Problemchen auf. Ein Relais am Watermaker brennt durch, die Süßwasserpumpe streikt und die Salzwasserpumpe leckt. Und dann ist es endlich so weit: Martinique erscheint am Ende des Horizonts. Oder zumindest die Lichter der Insel. Denn statt am frühen Abend, so wie es zwischenzeitlich aussah, kommen wir erst kurz vor dem Morgengrauen an. Und tatsächlich graut der Himmel. Heftige Regengüsse empfangen uns. Trotzdem feiern die die erfolgreiche Passage.

** NOW SOLD ** This 2014 Hunter 37 is a modern, current model, cruising yacht which punches well above her weight in terms of size to length. This is a huge 37 footer. When Marlow Yachts took over Hunter Marine in 2012, the result was a successful boat building company with decades of experience producing quality American built vessels with modern features. The 37 was designed to offer the best of both worlds… European sleek lines and modern features with American comfort and capacity. Down below the accommodation and living spaces and seriously impressive. There are two large private cabins, a massive galley, beautiful saloon table that lowers to create and additional double berth or simply a day bed, plus good sized head and shower. The cockpit is comfortable and practical with drop down boarding / swim platform and the folding wheel allows for maximum space when needed. The electric main winch makes for super easy handling and the main sail is furling. The trademark Hunter stainless steel arch keeps the mainsheet well out of the way while giving excellent control over the mainsail. This is the shoal draft version with a draft of 1.52m allowing for ultimate flexibility when cruising. This yacht was purchased as a near new vessel by her current owner. The anchor is an upgraded Rocna, instrumentation is by Raymarine and she features the upgraded Yanmar 40Hp engine. There is a shore power system with charger. She was just anti-fouled and sail drive serviced in July 2023.

What happened onboard Malizia - Seaexplorer since the start on Sunday. 💬 Morning message from Boris 📬 "Dear friends. Small update from the sea: A very strong metal part holding a sail up broke the evening before yesterday at nightfall. (Code zero lock) When the sail fell down its halyard ripped a 26 cms long hole in the face of the mast at the top. The sail fell in the water and got pierced on the foil. We managed to pull it back on board. With reefed sails we can now continue to sail. And once we have managed to put carbon over the crack we can sail almost back at 100%. Right now we are so slow because a high pressure caught us and we are with no wind in massive big waves. It’s a bit horrible being thrown around and seeing the sails suffer from slamming from side to side. We hope to be able to do the repair soon and resume proper sailing. Hopefully tomorrow. All in all we had quite a bit of bad luck in this leg: We started well and then lost out due to bad information on the aghulas current. (Not sure better info exists-tbc) This put us a bit behind holcim. Losing the sail made us loose more. Valuable miles. This added lead to us being caught up by the high pressure which holcim managed to escape. The team is amazingly positive. And has a strong morale. Myself I feel a bit shattered. Emotionally. Disappointed. But the great people around me show me the right attitude. Keep face and remain strong to achieve the dream of this round the world race. We thought about going back to Cape Town. This would be an easy reaction. The race could be continued from itajai. But We now all agree to try and continue. It takes of course even more mental strength then such an endeavor takes anyhow. The day we stand on the dock in itajai I will be super proud. These long races are incredibly challenging. I send u some photos. Send us some good luck, 10 knots of wind and flat seas." We leave Crocodile Creek for the final time and make our way to Cockatoo Island and a drink on the wood at the Iron Ore Bar. We make our way to Coppermine Creek to collect oysters and check out a beautiful blue hole just down the creek. It’s a magical place and Magnus continues to teach Wendy how to fish and she catches a shark! It’s now time to head towards the notorious Whirlpool Pass and we check it out in Peanut. Meine erste Atlantiküberquerung. Ich bin allein auf der 12 Meter langen REYKJA, einer 35-jährigen Stahlyacht. Es geht von La Palma, Kanaren, direkt nach Domenica, Karibik. Die Strecke ist 2790 Seemeilen lang, mehr als 5000 Kilometer. Dafür brauche ich 24 Tage. Ich überquere den Atlantik im Februar. Segeln im Passat ist nicht wahnsinnig schwierig, aber hat Tücken. Im Februar weht der Wind stärker als in den Monaten davor. Wenn die Wellen hoch gehen, beginnt das Schiff kräftig zu rollen. Schon Schlafen wird zu einem Abenteuer: Wo kralle ich mich fest ohne umhergeschleudert zu werden? Reisst dann noch kurz vor dem Ziel die Genua, das grösste Segel, ist man als Alleinsegler plötzlich ganz schön einsam. Mein Fazit aus knapp vier Wochen allein segeln? Echt stark!

This is a pretty focused video on our time in Fort de France for Carnival. What a wild experience! Carnival was quite different than we expected. It was somehow much more a cultural part of Martinique than we expected. 30,000 people in the streets all afternoon and evening for several days running. At least 3/4 of the spectators were costumed. Very little drinking or drug use apparent, but surging drum rhythms driving the party through the streets. The parades move very slowly and go on for hours and hours. There are multiple, simultaneous parade routes and after several hours most of the spectators have joined in, walking either ahead or behind a drum group or DJ truck they like. #MartiniqueCarnival #SailingMartinique #CruisingMartinique
