Today we shall start the special journey across the North Atlantic from the Azores back home to mainland Europe.  Or as Ilja says: Cold. Wet. Gusty. High Seas. Home of shit weather. That pretty much sums it up. This passage was HARD! Depressions hunting us, Thula not able to flee as the systems just move too fast. Had we maybe not chosen the right weather window? Once again we pinned down all our hope and trust in Thula with her just recently improved rigg. What would break this time on our little floating home? Hopefully not again our back shroud... Then suddenly – 300nm off the coast of mainland Europe. Whales everywhere! Fascination, Panic. Especially when the water in front us turns red. What on earth had happened? Enjoy! ** NOW SOLD ** Built in France in 2007 'Ca Va' is an immaculate Beneteau Oceanis 50. Specified as the three-cabin version, her layout is the conventional forward master cabin with island berth and owners ensuite with standing shower. The twin aft doubles are good sized and to starboard is a large day head with shower. Her galley is a very clever split L shaped allowing great bench and fridge space. She is powered by an 110hp Yanmar diesel through a shaft with only 1200 hrs. She was also specified with bow thruster, electric primary winches and had her 6 batteries replaced in 2022. “Ca Va” is an immaculate, safe, and fast Bluewater cruising yacht.

We're falling in love here! We've seen some pretty crazy destinations during our 13 year trip around the world, but this has to be one of the most jaw droppingly beautiful places we've ever laid eyes on. During his expedition through the Sea of Cortez in 1940, John Steinbeck wrote of this magical part of the world “the very air here is miraculous, and outlines of reality change with the moment. The sky sucks up the land and disgorges it. A dream hangs over the whole region, a brooding kind of hallucination”. After several months of sailing through this incredible region, no spot has embodied his words more than our latest destination, Refugio. With it’s insane cactus dotted landscapes, rugged beaches littered with skulls, friendly locals, and topography that’s equally as stunning above and below the surface, Refugio showed us what it’s like to experience one of the world’s truly wild places. And to top it all off we had some pretty ideal sailing conditions to get there. We arrive to this wild paradise to discover empty beaches littered with skeletons and skulls, curious and playful sea lions that welcomed us into their under water world, and the most insane views around every corner. This is a major milestone for us - we are about to transit Suez Canal! We start our journey at the top of Red Sea / Bottom of Gulf of Suez. Winds are not cooperating in this part of the seas, but as far as we been watching - it’s one of the better windows for our passage. 142NM to the entrance of the Suez Canal. On the way - usual - getting around fishing boats and their nets, and arriving to the huge anchorage at night. Next morning we move to Suez yacht Club, where Aquarius will be docked for the night. This time we are not checked into Egypt, therefore we can not go ashore and whilst docking we damaged our bow thruster. Oh well, luckily we don’t need it to transit the canal. Next morning our pilot arrives and we take off to the next stop Ismailia. My first Atlantic crossing. I am alone on the 12-metre REYKJA, a 35-year-old steel yacht. It's going from La Palma, Canary Islands, directly to Domenica, Caribbean. The distance is 2790 nautical miles, more than 5000 kilometres. It takes me 24 days. I cross the Atlantic in February. Sailing in the trade winds is not terribly difficult, but it has its pitfalls. In February, the wind blows stronger than in the months before. When the waves go up, the ship starts to roll strongly. Even sleeping becomes an adventure: where do I cling to without being tossed around? If the genoa, the largest sail, breaks just before the destination, you are suddenly quite lonely as a solo sailor. My conclusion from almost four weeks at sea? Strong stuff!

Base prices located on some websites are not actually base prices at all and need to be adjusted. The 2023 44Cup set sail today with the opening races of the 44Cup Oman Cup, hosted by Oman Sail from its base in Muscat’s Al Mouj marina in 20+ knot winds. This made for spectacular downwind legs, the RC44s frequently speeding down waves then submarining, occasionally broaching, all the while providing a thorough work-out for the owner-drivers and their crews. The 17-22 knots was in stark contrast to the conclusion of the 2022 44Cup here in December, held in four days of ultra-light conditions, in which most other keelboat classes would not have been able to race. While 17-22 knots is nothing exception for the high-performance, owner-driver one designs, today the onshore easterly wind had been blowing for some time, kicking up an evil short chop with frequent breaking waves.

Fabio torna finalmente all'Isola d'Elba dopo la "vacanza romana" di quasi un mese che avete già visto nel video precedente. Ma starà in "vacanza all'isola d'Elba" per circa 30 ore, poi si riprende il treno per arrivare a Fiumicino ma già a Campiglia Marittima non sta molto bene ... finisce che a Civitavecchia il treno si ferma per una emergenza medica ... stanchezza, fastidio e disidratazione! Dopo qualche ora di Ospedale e qualche nuovo buco qua e la i dottori decidono che Fabio è a posto e lo sparano fuori. Raggiunto Manuele Sambuchi, amico e titolare di www.margaritacharter.com (se volete fare un vacanza in barca a vela in Grecia lui è l'uomo giusto per farla in sicurezza divertendosi) si riprende il viaggio verso Isola Sacra. Renée will discuss some of their scientific initiatives like road salt monitoring and watershed health indicator tracking and volunteer opportunities. She will cover some invasive and endangered aquatic species and the why it is important to clean off boats when bringing them from another venue or returning from a regatta or training event on another body of water.
