Lezioni di Vela - Gennaker - Regolazioni - Episodio 20 Come regolare il gennaker in crociera è il tema del nuovo video-episodio di Scuola di VELA. Sulle moderne barche da crociera, il gennaker viene armato sulla delfiniera oppure su un bombresso estraibile e come abbiamo visto nel precedente episodio, l'issata con la calza è alla portata di tutti, anche di un equipaggio ridotto non esperto. Il gennaker presente sulle barche e catamarani da crociera, è quello che i regatanti chiamano A2, il più utile per massimizzare la velocità nelle andature di lasco nelle condizioni di vento più comune. Gli angoli del vento reale ideali di lavoro di un A2 da crociera vanno infatti dai 120° a 165° TWA, con velocità di vento reale dagli 8 ai 20 nodi TWS. Con l'uso di un barber e vento leggero, si può regolare il gennaker da crociera anche per angoli più ampli, e utilizzarlo, anche se non ottimizzato, dai 100 ai 170 gradi TWA. Il Gennaker è una vela che sfrutta molto il vento apparente, per questo è molto indicata anche con aria leggera. Il segreto della sua regolazione è "lascare" per tenerlo gonfio il più possibile. Les secrets d'une prise de coffre / mouillage sur bouée facile et sans stress. Dans beaucoup de mouillages où nous avons jeté l'ancre, nous avons pu observer d'autres voiliers prendre des coffres / mouillé sur bouée. Même si, comme nous, vous privilégiez le mouillage sur ancre, sur certains sites (réserves, parcs naturels...) le mouillage sur bouée sera obligatoire. Il y a un moment que je voulais faire cette vidéo. J'ai vu beaucoup de plaisanciers avec beaucoup d'expérience "galérer" sur cette manœuvre. Bien positionner le bateau, réussir à attraper l'anneau de la bouée malgré le vent et le clapot, maintenir le bateau, parvenir à y passer l'amarre.... bref cette manœuvre peut être compliquée et source de stress. Voilier, Voile, Navigation, Solo sailing, Estuaire Gironde, Atlantique

Tahanea is our first atoll we have been to in the Tuamotus. The scary part is the entry and exit through the pass. If you get the timing wrong, it can be a very bumpy dangerous ride. Thankfully our exit went well though we could see the start of some waves forming on our port side. Next stop Faaite which is about 40 nautical miles away. We needed to exit the Tahanea pass at slack tide and you need to typically time your entry into the next atoll at the next slack tide. In this case, Faaite is one of a couple of atolls with an anchorage outside so we are not constrained by time but in this case by sunlight. We arrive at Faaite atoll with the sun low and we struggle to find sand to drop the anchor in. Eventually the sun gets too low so we need to make a plan. We opt to spend the night drifting between Faaite and Fakarava atolls. The wind is light and we can seek shelter from any swell that may build by using the atoll as a buffer. We lower the sails and settle in for the night for some reason quite excited about doing this as we have never done this before. It is like a normal night at sea even though we are not sailing, we still need to keep watch. There could be other boats out here and we know that there are plenty of whales. The night passes and in the morning we make another attempt to find sand to anchor in. No luck despite this being shown as an anchorage in a few guides, I am not convinced so we head off to Fakarava to make the next slack tide. We arrive there and it is a lockdown weekend so we don't see any activity. The entrance is amazingly beautiful and we can see the bottom as we motor in. There is coral everywhere. We have heard so much about the south pass and it is already living up to it's name. It has a famous shark dive called the wall of sharks and it also has the most incredible grouper spawning that you may ever see. As for the small village, if they would have me, I would move there in a heartbeat. We drop anchor and as the lockdown is lifted after the weekend, friends arrive and we celebrate Nathan's birthday on a small motu which has crystal clear water around it with lots of different coral. We snorkel up and down the south pass along the shore line on the incoming current. There is so much to see and knowing that there is apparently a wall of sharks below us, we keep a close watch into the depths but see nothing. I am not sure they exist. We do see a few of the large wrasse which is a treat. Finally we do the dive. Bright Star and Yknot manage to provide me with some dive gear so that I can join them. We descend to 29 meters and we see the wall of sharks. At one point we enter a small cave to watch the sharks pass by. This is a dive that you should not miss. We had a number of projects to do on Intention in the winter of 2022. A few of them, like painting the bottom, replacing the zinc anodes, replacing our propeller shaft seal, and replacing PVC fittings below the waterline all required that the boat be out of the water. We scheduled a haulout with our marina's boatyard, and in this video we will share our experience. Okay - full disclosure: this video was promised a long, LONG time ago. Life got in the way, kind of like how it did with our sailing plans in general. But hopefully we will be back on track with more regular posts moving forward. Interestingly, a lot of this weather data that we sailors use to navigate is generated from drifter buoys that are deployed throughout the Ocean. During this Southern Ocean leg, the competitors deploy 10 of these drifter buoys. Team Malizia has just deployed one such float today which will stay active and gather data for at least the next two years. The drifter buoys float at the top of the ocean surface and transmit atmospheric pressure, temperature and current data via satellite to meteorological organisations like Meteo France and NOAA. This data is then used by many world wide weather forecasters and helps scientists to better understand our one Ocean and climate change. Currents regulate the climate, which is why gathering this data is so important for us to better understand the impact the Ocean is having on climate. It might even not be the correct way to do things, and I don't have the blueprint either. I'm not perfect and nobody is. Where else in the world can you see stunning red rocks and a beautiful snowy lake in the same day? We can't get enough of Utah's amazing National and State Parks. This week, we visited Sand Hollow State Park and Bear Lake State Park. Our friends were kind enough to let us stay in their lakeside house for a few days in Bear Lake, and we had a blast! I have to give a shout out to The Wick Lab in Draper, Utah as well. We took our family in and had a great experience making our own candles. Everyone loved it! Five stars! Would recommend.
