We left the Long Island sound and sailed back to Manhattan through the East River. The sun was setting behind the New York City skyline when we reached the city so we were treated to the most amazing views. Because of a security zone in the western channel we were escorted by a coast guard vessel while passing by the UN building. Ricky our welder has begun his work and the supports that stiffen the structure are now in place. While he works on the welds Bill plans to continue sanding the bottom while checking in occasionally to make sure the 'arch' plan is progressing. To confirm that the geometry of the structure is correct with respect to the placement of the pipes for the davits the feet, or deck mounts of the vertical support poles are temporarily installed using screws but later are permanently welded to the stern rail before the deck could be properly sealed. This gives us little space to work the butyl tape and epoxy into place. To give us access to the area of the deck we are working on we use the winch and halyard to gain mechanical advantage and help us move the structure just enough to be able maneuver around the feet. It's a painstaking process and it ends up taking us three days just to fix 6 of the deck holes. The process would still have been time consuming had we not made this mistake but it caused us aggravation and wasted time and could have been avoided. En effet, il n'est à ce jour pas possible de passer le permis côtier en candidat libre. Ni la pratique, ni le code. Nous sortons de la rivière Chagres et entamons la navigation jusqu’à Bocas Del Toro. Nous pêchons plusieurs poissons, faisons voler le parasailor de nuit et entrons dans la zone sans vent. Une ligne à pêche prise dans le safran et un moteur qui ne veut pas démarrer plus tard, nous prenons la décision de changer de cap, d’arrêter à une petite île sur notre chemin et donc d’allonger le voyage d’une journée pour Pierre-Alexandre et Geneviève. Le lendemain matin, nous reprenons la navigation dans les canaux de mangroves direction Bocal Del Toro. All is well in the world of Wicked and she's looking better everyday! We bought Wicked in June 2020 at the height of the (ahem cough cough) and risked it all to make our dreams come true. Sailing the world together has been a dream of ours for sometime now. But thanks to those YouTube Sailors who came before us for the encouragement and inspiration its becoming a reality. Thank you!
