The marine biologists and field researchers grow the coral and clams to maturity then distribute them around the Fijian islands to help replenish the coral beds that have suffered destruction from both mass bleaching events and cyclones, most notability Cyclone Winston in 2016. Finally sailing our catamaran sailboat North into all new territory for us! We met some friends along the way and spent the week exploring this beautiful Baja California natural harbor of Punta San Basilio. Of course heavy north winds kept us stationary for a bit but we managed beach days, spearfishing, snorkeling, hiking, and much more. The beauty of sailing Mexico is astonishing. The future of sailing involves more women, younger sailors, and foiling technology. The 37th America's Cup is leading the way with the creation of the Women's America's Cup and Youth America's Cup regattas. A New York Yacht Club and American Magic task force has been formed to spearhead this effort. Selecting and preparing teams for the Youth and Women's America's Cup regattas will be a primary focus, but not the only one. The aim is broader than one event and will encompass a variety of high-performance sailboats, from singlehanded Moths and Waszps to the three-person Persico 69F to the AC40. In August 2022, some of America's top women and youth sailors participated in a foiling exhibition in lower Narragansett Bay, where they sailed Moths and Perisco 69Fs. These events fit perfectly within a broader NYYC and American Magic initiative to raise the technical skills of younger sailors and identify and nurture top talent.

Boris Herrmann saw what a long leg 3 was, in The Ocean Race, and he had his Imoca designed for the gruelling Southern Ocean, and he was successful, as he and his great crew, won the leg from Cape Town to Itaijai. Despite fixing their mast, and sails, along with Rosies' accident,, they screamed over the leg, giving us some fantastic footage. Congratulations to the team for an epic sail. Speaking afterwards, Lucas Calabrese offered a brilliant insight into just how cool the American Magic team is, and talking about the capsize, he almost made it sound fun:, “Yeah, obviously it's pretty challenging, you have the bustle that is hanging down on the boat, and then you have the foil that is coming in and out of the waves, so it's hard to manage the balance between keeping the bustle out of the water, and the foil not coming out of the water. It was just one of those days, pretty tough conditions and, we stuffed the bow, and then got slow, and ended up in a pretty fun capsize.” The 52nd edition of the Tro-feo Princesa Sofía has a special importance just over a year before the Games of the 33rd Olympiad begin in Paris. The best Olympic sailing specialists in the world met on the Bay of Palma as a taste of what may happen at the French regatta off Marseille. This is World Sailings' report on Day One in Palma. Now it's Biotherms' turn to experience damage. They hit something with their foil, and it caused the team to take it seriously. They fixed the damage inside the IMOCA with a repair which included a huge fire! Not something you see every day on a racing yacht. Still in Palma, the wind came in for Day Two, and the 49er, and 49er FX, where in the Mens, was dominated by the French, and the womens FX, by New Zealand. That's the diversity of talent in these divisions leading up to the Paris Olympics. An unspecified and highly unusual below-decks gear breakage curtailed Emirates Team New Zealand’s second day of training this week aboard ‘Te Re-hu-tai’ in Auckland on Tuesday. Simon van Velthooven, one of the super-fit power group of Emirates Team New Zealand, summed it up brilliantly after sailing saying: “Yeah we’re starting to throw it around a bit more now, and probably the G-forces feel like it was pre-racing here in Auckland. The New Zealand Sailing team are having a good meet in Palma at the Princess Sofia regatta and Olympic Ilca Coach, Jon Emmett, talked to Luke Deegan who is heading the ILCA 7's. Running a close third with a badly torn Mainsail, the crew on 11th Hour Racing in The Ocean Race, are down to the last of their clean clothes. Les Grenadines de Grenade : Carriacou & Grenade. Nous avons quitté Union ce matin, direction Carriacou. Nous quittons donc les Grenadines de Saint Vincent pour les Grenadines de Grenade. Ce sera une navigation au largue, un vent de travers légèrement orienté à l'arrière. Le courant nous est favorable. Attention, au Nord de Grenade il y a un volcan sous marin circonscrit par une zone d'exclusion. Premier mouillage à Halifax, nous voulions y passer la nuit, nous y sommes resté le temps du déjeuner. Trop de cailloux, trop exposé. Finalement, nous avons mouillé sur bouée devant Saint Georges à Martin's bay. Attention dans cette zone, mouiller sur ancre peut vous valoir une belle amende, pensez à contacter "Junior" à la capitainerie. Au Sud de la baie, il y a la magnifique plage de Grande Anse et un grand centre commercial pour l'avitaillement. Nous sommes ensuite descendu à Prickly Bay. Nous y étions tellement bien que nous y avons passer 3 semaines. Sailing vessel Tapatya The aft pushpit come sheet arch saga continues with me cutting the legs off of some spanking new gate stanchions and fabricating some wood pieces to give the thing a decent width; I manage to shorten an extremely long engine stop cable and fit it, and do one of those things I really dislike - cut an aluminium profile on the table saw - on my way to making a short traveller for the mainsail sheet. This is the story of the building of a Jay Benford designed, 31.8ft, junk schooner-rigged cruising sailboat. The videos are a week-by-week record of the build as it progresses and aim to show as much detail as possible of the various aspects of the build. Also, we finish up the Johnson 9.9, with a new water pump, as well as take a look at another acquisition, the Yamaha 15hp, 2 stroke outboard (which is a twin to our other Yamaha already in service).
