Our last video was all about our sexy new bowsprit installation so we could enjoy flying our 6 giant gennakers once more In the last video we explained the setup for the new installation, but the installation itself wasn’t so straight forward as it involved accessing areas of the very front of our very skinny bow. So Timo had to come up with some novel solutions... the first of which was how to tighten the nuts and bolts attaching the anchor bowsprit to the deck. We went from low winds to 40 knot gusts during our journey to the Florida Keys. Leaving Port Canaveral with our new stack pack for the mainsail, we cruised to Ft. Pierce inlet with almost no wind. Stopped for the night at a nice marina where we met a friendly couple and saw Goliath Grouper fish. From Ft. Pierce we went to the West Palm Beach Inlet and again we had a low wind day. We dragged the keel a couple of times but were able to power through thanks to our 150hp Cummins. Things changed when cruising from West Palm Beach to Ft. Lauderdale. With lightning strikes and weather warnings of 60 mph wind gusts, quarter size hail and water spouts we found it hard to see Ft. Lauderdale let alone the channel markers. It was definitely a change in weather! We only saw 40 knot gusts which was enough. Can we lift up this beast of a boat with just the two of us? For the past two years of the build, our boat has been sitting on the forms which came with the kit from Vietnam. But this week, we lift up the catamaran to switch our our plywood forms for foam blocks, and we do it without any outside help!! After two years now of accumulating tool and scrap pieces of foam, we first have to do a thorough cleaning underneath the hull to make room for ourselves to work. Then we bring out the laser to mark where the hull is currently sitting, before we get to lifting it up. It isn't an uncommon thing for catamarans to rest in foam blocks instead of jackstangs, ask our friend Matt with his Gunboat, but what most people do not have to deal for short hauls or storage is keeping the boat perfectly level. And while we've already build out most of our interior, we still want it to come back down exactly where she had been sitting before. So after a full day of cleaning, jacking, and adding and then removing shims underneath the foam, we THINK we have it good enough to move on. We started the week off in Dominica by dropping Laura to the airport. Super sad she had to leave. We miss you Laura! The car we had rented was... interesting 😂. The drive was horrible. But we had a lot of fun with our friends going to Church, meeting amazing people and spending an awesome final night in Dominica! The next morning we headed down South to Martinique. After a long rough sail of about 11 hours we made it to Martinique! We got a great spot to anchor in a beautiful marina to the south of the island. After the first night over there Zach had to leave next day sadly. We dropped him to the airport and said goodbye. We love you Zach! He'll be with us again soon. It is such a beautiful island with beautiful people and we're hoping to stay here for about two weeks as we also decided to get some repairs done to our Outremer boat. There's so much to explore. EP 228: We found this on a sunken plane! | Sailing the Bahamas We carried on island hopping around in the Bahamas. We left Buena Vista Cay and made our way to Flamingo Cay where we had a good experience with sharks, had a stowaway and found something crazy on a wrecked plane on the beach. We then made our way to water cay to relax on the beach and check out fisherman's cove with a good celebratory drink for Grants birthday. Then we made our way to Long Island for a bit of civilization again!
