Maryland School of Sailing and Seamanship at the Annapolis Boat Show 2026

⛵ Sailing School Spotlight: Maryland School of Sailing and Seamanship Meet the team from Maryland School of Sailing and Seamanship! We caught up with them at the Annapolis Sailboat Show to learn about their comprehensive ASA courses, hands-on training, and philosophy of teaching sailors to handle big boats in big water safely! 🌊 What makes Maryland School of Sailing special? Founded in 1993 by Tom Tursi, the school focuses on preparing sailors for safe, confident cruising. Their ASA 101, 103, and 104 courses take place aboard Island Packet 32 sailboats in the Chesapeake Bay, with students encouraged to stay overnight for the full cruising experience. ⛵ What makes your teaching approach unique? It’s not just about knowing how to sail, but understanding WHY! The school develops its own boat-specific training manuals and checklists, teaching students the reasoning behind every maneuver and decision. ⚓ What can students expect from your courses? In-depth, hands-on instruction! ASA 101 and 103 each run four days, ASA 104 runs five days, and advanced ASA 106 and 108 courses last more than a week. Even their docking course includes two full days of training! 📚 Who are your courses designed for? The curious sailor who wants to understand how everything works! Students are encouraged to master each certification, practice independently, and return when they’re ready to build on their skills. 🎟️ Any special discounts available? Yes! Returning students receive 5% OFF future courses after completing ASA 101, excluding ASA 106 and 108. It’s a great way to continue learning at your own pace! ⚓ How can someone get started?
