Replacing the saloon cushions on a cruising yacht should have been straightforward. We spent weeks choosing fabrics, selecting the correct foam, creating detailed layouts and even producing design renderings to ensure the finished result was exactly what we wanted. The contractor inspected the boat, took templates, agreed a price and accepted the job. But things didn't go according to plan. Delays started to mount, deadlines slipped, and as the new cushions began arriving onboard, it became clear that some of the workmanship wasn't meeting the standard we'd agreed. With our planned departure from Tunisia fast approaching and a weather window to Malta opening up, the pressure was on. But in the end...... Join us as we explore two very different sides of Hawaii's Big Island during our cruise aboard Pride of America. Our first stop takes us from Hilo to Volcanoes National Park, with a sweet visit to Big Island Candies along the way. Unfortunately, the weather had other plans, and rain, mist and low cloud made capturing the dramatic volcanic landscapes a challenge. Even so, there's something fascinating about experiencing Hawaii's raw and unpredictable natural beauty. The following day couldn't have been more different. Under glorious Hawaiian sunshine, we spend the day exploring the charming town of Kona, enjoying a relaxed lunch by the waterfront before setting sail on a catamaran cruise along the stunning Kona Coast. Along the way we visit the historic waters near Kealakekua Bay, where Captain James Cook met his fate in 1779. Back aboard Pride of America, we round off another wonderful day in paradise with dinner at Jefferson's Bistro. After weeks of navigating the busy Singapore and Malacca Straits, we finally arrive in one of the most beautiful places we've seen in a long time. Southern Langkawi is a maze of towering limestone cliffs, hidden channels and secluded anchorages. As we carefully weave our way through shallow water and strong currents, we're rewarded with what quickly becomes one of our favourite anchorages of the journey so far. Over the following days we explore this incredible corner of the Langkawi UNESCO Global Geopark by dinghy, kayak and paddleboard, discovering dramatic rock formations, hidden beaches and an abundance of wildlife. Sea eagles soar overhead, hornbills glide between the islands, monitor lizards patrol the shoreline and we spot dusky leaf monkeys for the first time. We also visit the famous Lake of the Pregnant Maiden (Tasik Dayang Bunting), but instead of arriving with the crowds, we wait until evening and find ourselves completely alone in one of Langkawi's most iconic locations. And just when we think the day couldn't get any better, dolphins appear beside the boat on our journey home. French Guiana turned out to be one of the most challenging and surprising stops of our world circumnavigation. What should have been a simple arrival quickly became an anchoring nightmare. Strong currents, muddy bottoms, and difficult conditions forced us to anchor multiple times before finally finding a spot that would hold.
