We can't believe it's over. In January of 2025, we left the U.S. Virgin Islands, knowing New Zealand would be our final stop. So much has happened in that 14-month period when we left the boat in March of 2026. If you've been following along, seasons 8 and 9 of this channel document the entire voyage. This was a bucket list item for me since I was 13 years old and read a book about somebody doing the "coconut milk run" all the way to New Zealand. I can't believe how well this trip went and what a rewarding journey it was for Lennie and I. Both ourselves and the Kinetic performed well. Après des mois de travaux, de matériel stocké un peu partout et de choses accumulées à bord, on attaque un grand tri sur le catamaran. On range, on trie, on jette ce qui ne sert plus, on remet de l’ordre dans les coffres et on commence aussi à améliorer petit à petit le confort à bord. Ce ne sont pas forcément les travaux les plus spectaculaires, mais c’est une étape indispensable avant de pouvoir réellement profiter du bateau et reprendre la mer dans de bonnes conditions. We first visited the Indonesian Island of Belitung way back in 2011 crewing on the ketch Atlantia at the start of our cruising lives. We found the natural beauty of the island truly amazing and the local people so amazingly friendly and helpful it really made our stay unforgettable. Despite being a well known holiday hotspot amongst Indonesians, the island wasn’t crowded in the least and back then, we saw very few western tourists at all. We had concerns Belitung may have been DISCOVERED and subsequently spoiled by crowds and over commercialism like Bali, Labuan Bajo and Komodo But after over thirty thousand nautical miles sailed and all these years later, we were delighted to find that wasn’t the case at all, with the Belitung’s relaxed atmosphere and slow pace of life wrapping around us from the time we stepped on the beach.

Howdy folks! Welcome back to Nomad Boat Building. My name is Mark Reuten, and we're picking up where we left off on the Poulsbo Boat Project. With the inwales and thwart risers glued up, it's time to fair them out and get ready for planking. There's a lot of material to remove, some tricky twists to follow, and a few places where the grain isn't making life easy. In this episode, I show how I use a batten to establish fair lines across the moulds, then work through the rough shaping with a slick before switching to hand planes and a longboard for finer adjustments. I'll also show why checking for bumps and hollows with a batten is an important final step. Along the way, we take a closer look at Alaskan yellow cedar, work around some awkward grain, and discuss a transom layout issue that I may have to solve as the build progresses. The original Poulsbo boat was a sport fishing boat built by Ronald Young in Washington using traditional carvel plank construction. This version uses modern cedar-strip construction, with fibreglass inside and out. At the Annapolis Sailboat Show, our CEO Gwen Dorning had the opportunity to discover this South African-built bluewater cruising catamaran at its world premiere. Better still, she was lucky enough to get aboard for a sail on Chesapeake Bay! ► The yacht we tested (hull #2) had only just completed her Atlantic crossing from South Africa with her Owners. After 20 years sailing a 45-foot monohull, they decided to make the switch to a multihull, prioritizing comfort, safety and ease of handling for extended cruising. And who could blame them? "Our sea trial began in a light breeze, with just 6 knots of apparent wind," Gwen explains. "Yet even in these conditions, the Knysna 550 managed to maintain a speed of 4 to 5 knots - a pleasant first surprise! Y tendremos la oportunidad de conocer una de las modalidades más espectaculares de la vela deportiva: ¡el iQFOiL! 🏆 ANTONIO MEDINA: LA VELA QUE VUELA SOBRE EL AGUA Uno de los grandes protagonistas de este capítulo es Antonio Medina, campeón de España de iQFOiL, una modalidad olímpica de windsurf que ha revolucionado la navegación a vela. A diferencia del windsurf tradicional, el iQFOiL utiliza un hidroala o foil que permite elevar la tabla sobre la superficie del agua, reduciendo la resistencia y alcanzando velocidades extraordinarias. Ver a estos deportistas navegar es impresionante. Pero detrás de esa velocidad hay mucho más: preparación física, conocimiento del viento, equilibrio, técnica, entrenamiento y años de aprendizaje. Durante nuestra conversación con Antonio Medina nos acercamos a una disciplina que representa la evolución de la vela deportiva y demuestra hasta dónde pueden llegar quienes convierten su pasión por el mar en una forma de vida. Porque la vela no consiste únicamente en aprovechar el viento. También consiste en aprender a interpretarlo, comprenderlo y utilizarlo para avanzar. ⛵ ESCUELAS DE VELA: DONDE COMIENZA LA PASIÓN POR NAVEGAR No todos los navegantes aspiran a convertirse en campeones. Algunos simplemente quieren descubrir la sensación de navegar impulsados por el viento. Otros buscan aprender a manejar una embarcación, ganar autonomía, disfrutar del Mediterráneo o compartir experiencias con otros aficionados. En este capítulo conocemos también el papel fundamental de las escuelas de vela infantiles, los clubes de navegación y la formación náutica. Desde los primeros contactos de los niños con una embarcación hasta la práctica de la vela deportiva y la navegación de recreo, existe todo un recorrido de aprendizaje que permite acercar el mar a personas de diferentes edades y niveles. Las escuelas y los clubes náuticos no solo enseñan a navegar. También transmiten conocimientos sobre seguridad marítima, meteorología, trabajo en equipo, respeto al medio marino, responsabilidad y convivencia. Y, sobre todo, ayudan a crear nuevas generaciones de navegantes. ⚓ PUERTO DE BENALMÁDENA: UN PUNTO DE ENCUENTRO CON EL MEDITERRÁNEO Nuestro recorrido también nos lleva al **Puerto Deportivo de Benalmádena, Puerto Marina, uno de los enclaves náuticos más conocidos de Málaga y de la Costa del Sol. Allí conversamos con Irene Bruzón, directora del puerto de Benalmádena, para conocer la importancia de estas instalaciones en el desarrollo de la actividad náutica. Los puertos deportivos son mucho más que lugares donde atracan embarcaciones. Son espacios de encuentro entre navegantes, escuelas, clubes, profesionales del sector y personas que desean acercarse al mar. También forman parte de la actividad turística, deportiva y económica del litoral malagueño. En este capítulo queremos mostrar esa otra cara de los puertos: su relación con la enseñanza, el deporte, la cultura marítima y las oportunidades que ofrecen para descubrir la navegación. 🌊 LA SENDA INVISIBLE: EL VIENTO QUE NOS CONECTA ¿Por qué hemos titulado este capítulo «La senda invisible»? Porque existe algo que conecta a todos los protagonistas de esta historia, aunque no podamos verlo. El viento. Es el mismo viento que impulsa una pequeña embarcación de escuela, que permite navegar a un velero de crucero y que hace posible que un deportista de iQFOiL se eleve sobre el agua. Cambian las embarcaciones, las velocidades, los objetivos y los niveles de experiencia. Pero el principio es el mismo: aprender a navegar utilizando las fuerzas de la naturaleza. Y esa es una de las grandes maravillas de la vela. No importa si estás empezando, si llevas años navegando o si compites al máximo nivel. Small Crack, Big Boat Job - An Insurance Dilemma Welcome back to Trinidad, our catamaran and a new round of boat work. This week we're throwing ourselves into a big job to solve a small problem. During our insurance survey, cracks in the weld that hold the bushings in place for the cross bar were deemed unfit for purpose. Although these cracks predate the ownership of our floating home, this time the message was clear no repair no insurance. It's an insurance dilemma. To repair the weld we need to remove the forestay and disconnect the crossbeam. A big job to correct a small problem. After spending six months sailing completely off-grid through Indonesia, we're back in Malaysia giving our 39-foot sailboat, Stella, some much-needed TLC! ⛵️🔧 Living on a sailboat in some of the most remote places in the world has definitely taught us a thing or two, especially that NOTHING is ever as easy as you think it's going to be! From installing a brand-new Lofrans anchor windlass after our old one failed during a terrifying 45-knot squall, to picking up our new outboard, upgrading to an electric toilet (finally, no more pumping!), and installing speakers throughout Stella. Of course, what we thought would be a few simple jobs quickly turned into days of unexpected challenges, problem-solving, and a whole lot of patience. We only planned to spend ONE DAY in Fort-de-France, Martinique… but things didn't exactly go as planned! What was supposed to be a quick stop turned into a much longer stay, and we quickly discovered why this colourful Caribbean city is such a convenient place for cruising families! With hurricane season approaching, it was time for some BIG provisioning! We stocked up on groceries and supplies, explored the lively streets of Fort-de-France, and discovered that this city has pretty much everything a sailor could need. But the biggest highlight for Coral and Kai? An amazing playground and the perfect place to zoom around on their scooters! Sometimes the simplest things make the kids the happiest, especially when you're growing up on a sailboat! After enjoying city life a little longer than expected, we finally raised anchor and enjoyed a short sail along Martinique's beautiful coastline to Petite Anse d'Arlet. What a change of scenery! From the bustling streets of Fort-de-France to a charming little fishing village with colourful boats, beautiful Caribbean scenery, and a laid-back atmosphere.
