An eclectic day today. After inspecting a dry boat at last, we first look at the wooden pads and doors we've made and dry fit these. Secondly we have a first little test of the sleeping arrangments onboard the Sailfish 18. Lastly we have a first look at the keel and how to inspect it as well as looking at the table top and what we might change on that! Is it time to trade your sails for a pilothouse? Seasoned sailors are quietly making the switch to motorsailers, and it's not because they're "getting old." It's because they've realized that staying dry, warm, and comfortable on passage is the ultimate flex. In this video, we break down the 5 Major Reasons why motorsailers are becoming the smart choice for full-time cruisers and liveaboards. We cover: The Pilothouse Advantage: Why steering from the inside changes everything in bad weather. Reliable Power: No more waiting for wind or getting stuck in currents. Liveaboard Layouts: How wider beams and raised salons create a real home on the water. Versatility: The ability to cruise shallow canals, open oceans, and everything in between. Low Stress Sailing: Why stability and simple systems make for happier sailors. Stop fighting the elements and start enjoying the journey. ⏱️ CHAPTERS: 00:00 Intro: Why Switch to a Motorsailer? 00:46 1. Comfort in All Weather (The Pilothouse Factor) 02:46 2. Bahamas Are Waiting! Solo Sailing, Sunset & Smooth Trade Winds from Turks & Caicos to Little Inagua.
After an amazing time in Turks & Caicos, it was time to point Mirage toward the Bahamas 🇧🇸 In this episode, I sail solo from Providence, Turks & Caicos to Little Inagua, Bahamas - a 70 nautical mile downwind passage filled with steady trade winds, deep blue water, and pure sailing rhythm. I departed at about 3:00 PM, made an overnight stop at West Caicos, and at 6:00 AM headed out again for the final leg to Little Inagua. Conditions were nearly perfect: 140–150° TWA with about 20 knots of wind, making for a fast, smooth, and very enjoyable downwind sail. Along the way, I’ll show: • How I jibe the boat safely while sailing solo • How to calculate wind angles before a jibe using the bearing to a new waypoint • A relaxed onboard dinner cook-up, inspired by a Gordon Ramsay video • A bit of history and information about Little Inagua, wrapped up with a stunning Bahamas sunset 0:00 Leaving Blue Haven Marina 1:24 Shallow passage between the reefs 2:00 Sails up 3:50 Overnight stop at West Caicos 4:30 Day 2 – early morning departure 6:09 Crossing the Caicos Channel 8:50 How to estimate wind angle before a jibe 10:00 Jibing the boat solo 10:35 “Bahamas Are Waiting” – my theme song 🎶 12:20 Approaching Little Inagua 13:30 Anchor set 13:55 Cooking with a famous chef 👨🍳 14:55 A bit about Little Inagua Fair winds, blue water, and welcome aboard!! Soundtrack: The jazzy background music you hear in this episode is an original track I created just for this episode. You’ll find the full lyrics below - they capture the mood of the passage perfectly: calm, rhythmic, and quietly adventurous. "Bahamas Are Waiting" [Verse 1] Chart on the table Mug with a coffee ring Mirage leans hungry to starboard Like it’s tasting everything Turks and Caicos waking Soft gold on the rail Solo hand on the mainsheet Whistling, ready to sail [Chorus] Bahamas are waiting Full sail, heart racing Blue on blue, that endless view Fair winds, sun blazing Bahamas are waiting Bahamas are waiting [Verse 2] Halyard hum in a half-time groove Spray on my face, sweet salt perfume Clouds like brushstrokes, high and thin I laugh at the line where the sky drops in Compass swings, then settles true Hull just slices that liquid blue Every wave a soft backbeat Mirage dancing under my feet [Chorus] [Bridge] Is this dream, is this day When the charts all fade away Only numbers are the knots we make Only measure is the wake we shake [Chorus]

In this video, we put the numbers on the table and challenge a common assumption. By looking at everyday expenses we rarely think about — subscriptions, cars, eating out, and small daily purchases — we show how, by rethinking our spending, the cost of owning and maintaining a small sailboat can be far more affordable than most people believe. No unrealistic dreams and no boat-show yachts. Just real numbers, conscious choices, and an honest comparison between life on land and life on a small sailboat. Sailing isn’t for everyone. But it isn’t a luxury. #wind #sailboat #sailing #nautical #lifeonboard #diyboat #sea #ocean #inbarccondario #luxury ___________________________________________________________ 📬Per richieste commerciali/proposte di lavoro/collaborazioni: 📩 dario.bevilacqua.011@gmail.com Se hai consigli, come sempre nei commenti puoi dirmi che cosa ne pensi! In this video, Mark from Nomad Boat Building walks through the wood lamination process for wooden boat construction, focusing on laminating a stem and transom knee using West System Epoxies. Laminating is a critical technique in traditional and modern boatbuilding, especially when creating strong, stable parts with tight curves that would otherwise require steam bending. Mark explains when and why to laminate, how to design effective lamination molds, how to choose veneer thickness, and how to calculate the correct amount of epoxy for a successful glue-up. ► The 52 is based on the 50 but now incorporates hybrid propulsion - like the highly successful HH44 - and a boosted sail plan. With its strongly inverted bows, curved daggerboards, comprehensive equipment list and luxurious (all-sandwich) interior fittings, we found the HH52 to be a real eye-catcher. The Sports Cruising version boasts highly refined carbon/epoxy sandwich construction. Aboard the Ocean Series version, fiberglass replaces carbon in part for the hulls, and the curved daggerboards are replaced by sensible fixed fins. Both SC and OC models can now feature a helm station forward the nacelle, becoming the SCF and OCF. ► TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS: Builder: Hudson Group Architects: Morrelli/Melvin Length: 51’10” (15.8 m) Beam: 24’5” (7.44 m) Draft: 5’5”/11’7” or 5’1” (1.65/3.54 m or 1.56 m) Light displacement: 24,470 to 26,040 lbs (11.11 to 11.81 t) Mainsail: 926/1,005 sq ft (86.02/98.38 m²) Genoa: 587.5/683 sq ft (54.58/63.46 m²) Drivetrain: 2 x 38 HP and electric Price: $ 1,570,000 ex-tax (2025) ► Sign up for our newsletter and win a free two-month subscription to Multihulls World by clicking here: https://bit.ly/48JP1Vk ► Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Multihulls World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/c/MultihullsWorld ► Log on to our website to discover over 600 multihulls tests! In ILCA 7, Karol Krupski (ESP) and Luka Zabukovec (SLO) are now tied at the top of the leaderboard on 30 points, highlighting the remarkable level of equality among the leading contenders. Just ten points behind, Fernando Abella (ESP) sits third overall. In ILCA 6, Ginevra Caracciolo (ITA) continues to assert her dominance, extending her lead at the top of the provisional standings after a flawless day in which she proved unbeatable, winning both races. The Italian now holds a commanding 31-point advantage over her closest challenger, Spain’s Irene de Tomás.
In Episode 4, we continue the restoration of Jinnie’s keel. Alan is back in the workshop, guiding us through the process in greater detail and explaining the careful work involved in restoring Jinnie’s original keel. Alan talks us through glue, shoe, acetone, and keel bolts, highlighting how the team must work quickly due to the rapid curing time of the epoxy. Alan and Jamie then bring the keel up and lift it back into Jinnie, marking a major milestone in the restoration. Some of the materials featured in this episode include @WestSystemEpoxy from our friends at @Marineindustrial4334, general-purpose oil-based mastic, and Jamie's much-loved Snap-on spanners. If you’re interested in traditional boatbuilding, restoration, or the craftsmanship that keeps historic working boats alive, this mini-documentary is for you. 👉 Subscribe to follow Jinnie’s restoration journey.
Most people don't avoid sailboats because they don't love sailing. They avoid sailboats because they're afraid of the work, the maintenance and the feeling that once you buy one... it owns you. In this video, I break that cycle. After decades around boats and years owning and sailing a simple, brutally honest sailboat, I'II show you how to own a sailboat without letting it own your time, your wallet, or peace of mind. I hope you enjoy this video. I can be reached directly at: smallsailboatbigwater@gmail.com Thanks for watching. Mitch

From our very first trade on the water to discovering the deep-rooted history of WWII , our arrival in the Solomons has been nothing short of surreal. But life in paradise isn't all palm trees and turquoise water. With a ripped sail to repair on a patch of grass and our food supplies dwindling to almost nothing, the reality of remote sailing starts to set in. Just when we thought we were in trouble, the incredible local community stepped in with a gift that kept us going and showed us a secret hidden spot that refreshed our motivation.

I believe I have found one of the best city anchorages ever here in the city of Ziguinchor on the River Casamance in Senegal. At the local restaurant nearby, I regularly go to, I meet Mohamed over lunch. He would change my life here. Thanks to him, we immerse ourselves in the vibrant chaos of a Senegalese wedding, celebrating not just a union, but the deep cultural embrace found ashore. From the salty spray of the Atlantic to the rhythmic beat of Senegalese drums. Prepare yourself for an explosion of colors, sounds, and tastes you won't believe. We're pulling back the curtain on a truly unique sailor's journey, What happens when a seasoned sailor docks not just in a port, but directly into the heart of an unforgettable cultural celebration? Get ready to witness a feast for the senses, a world away from the waves, and a profound communal joy and new connections. We have been refitting a 1977 Rival 38 for a Sustainable Sailing retirement, that has just started :-) When we bought Vida in August 2019 she was in a very tired and damp condition with all original equipment and fittings (much of it not working). This episode continues to share the reality of passages, the reality of the day in and the day out of continuous sailing to destinations days or more away... We get some great winds that give us awesome speeds, but the seas continue to keep us on our butts lol! Day trip Island hopping throughout the Windward a Leeward islands of the Caribbean does not compare with passages that include 3 or more days, let alone the month long passage it takes to cross the Pacific Ocean to that first landfall. Trade winds of the Caribbean are a wonderful thing for longer passages, if you can handle them. Please consider supporting our videos on Patreon.
