Day 5: Jelsa This morning we’ll sail towards Jelsa, also located on Hvar Island. Retour à Cuba, nous y étions en mai 2025 mais nous avions eu un goût de trop peu. Et on a bien fait d’y revenir. Nous découvrons ce magnifique pays entre décembre 2025 et février 2026, juste avant que cela ne dégénère… Cette première partie se déroule dans les îles du sud au départ de Cayo Largo. Avec Etienne et Éric, venus nous rejoindre pour découvrir la vie à bord et faire de la plongée sous-marine, nous allons naviguer d’île en île, souvent désertiques avec des plages de rêves et des eaux cristallines. Nous y faisons de belles plongées et du snorkeling jusque dans les mangroves. A Cayo Largo nous visitons le centre de sauvetage des tortues marines qui promeut la protection et la préservation des espèces en instruisant le touriste et en assistant la ponte des œufs sur les nombreuses plages de l’archipel. Une petite pause de 2 semaines pour Orion comme pour nous : nous rentrons en Belgique pour les fêtes de fin d’année !

This is part 5 of a step-by-step build of a B&B Yacht Designs Spindrift 10 nesting dinghy, following the guidance from the build instructions. This video focuses on masking the premiered and prepared surface, applying coats of gelcoat and sanding the gelcoat to a smooth surface, ready for buffing. I really enjoyed this part, it all-of-a-sudden looks like a "real" boat. And, all the hard work in preparing it to this point pays off big time! I purchased the pre-cut "kit" to save some time, but the same results can be accomplished by purchasing the build instructions and cutting your own marine-grade plywood. This video is for those who are looking to build their own dinghy, and who wish to learn more about the process. This is the second project Brent and I worked on together, the previous being a 7' pram for Brent. I hope you enjoy, and I hope you take away some successes we had, as well as learning from some of the failures we encountered.

In the harbor of Karlovasi at Samos, when we turned our back to the see, we looked at a high hill with a beautiful church. However, it was quite difficult to get there with our bike and scooter. Luckily—long live the drone—it can take a look almost anywhere 😉 It turned out to be the Church of the Holy Trinity, beautifully positioned on an elevated location above the port. Its prominent hilltop setting offers excellent panoramic views.

Near the town of Karlovasi on Samos, we discovered a small chapel called Agios Nikolaos Chapel. It is often used for weddings because of its picturesque location on a cliff, overlooking the sunset. We parked our bikes and took a look inside the small chapel. We also regularly come across the name “Agios Nikolaos” during our travels through Greece; it refers to Saint Nicholas, the patron saint of sailors.
