We set out expecting a manageable day on the water. The forecast had been holding steady around 20 knots from the east, and it looked like good conditions for a downwind sail to Port Protection. But as we worked our way down Sumner Strait toward Point Baker, the conditions started building beyond what was expected. Winds pushed well over 40 knots, with steep, messy seas building around us. It wasn’t just the strength of it. The angle of the wind made it harder, pushing us toward shore at times and forcing us to stay fully engaged at the helm. Looking back, there are always things you’d do differently. We kept sail up longer than we should have, and by the time things escalated, it made everything more complicated to manage in those conditions. And it’s a good reminder for us moving forward: In the winter out here, a 20 knot forecast can easily turn into 40. We worked through it together, we stayed with it, and made our way around Point Baker. And just like that, everything changed. Flat water in Port Protection. Quiet. Relief. The kind of calm that feels almost surreal after a day like that. Another squally day. They’ve been coming through nonstop, one after the other. Dark clouds rolling in, wind picking up, then easing again… all day. It makes everything feel a bit hectic, like you’re constantly one step away from needing to adjust something. So I decided to play it safe early. Two reefs in the main, two in the genoa. Just settled the boat down and took the pressure off. After that, everything felt a lot more manageable, and I didn’t have to keep second-guessing every gust or cloud passing by. Today ended up being more of an office day than anything else. Spent most of it working on sponsors. Reaching out, pitching, following up, trying to get conversations going. It’s one of those things that doesn’t feel very “Atlantic crossing” when you’re doing it, but it’s such a big part of making this whole project possible. And honestly… it matters. A lot. I still squeezed in a bit of a workout and some singing, as usual. Those small routines keep the day balanced. But yeah, overall, today was a work day. And tomorrow might be a big one. If everything goes as planned, by sunset I’ll be turning north. Last episode we commenced our overnight passage from Montenegro to Greece. Along the way we saw some stunning scenes and were joined by wildlife which was a dream of Hugh's. In this episode we are in Greek waters. We have to change course form the initial plan of Preveza and head towards Corfu to find a protected anchorage ahead of some upcoming winds. Due to limited anchorages where you don't have to be Med-moored, Shane goes to the chandlery gets floating line so that we don't get caught out where we can safely stay again. While he is out customs/police stop by Smile & want to see paperwork. We were given struct instructions that to check in at Corfu now (not Preveza) and by 12pm. We engage an agent and get it done, although not a quick process - or cheap. Back to our initial anchorage, Shane replaces our dinghy propella & now we can all relax and enjoy the Greek waters. Phase 2 of this off-grid cabin repair… and now we’re working underneath it. With the structure still out of level, this step is all about building temporary posts to hold the house in place while we prepare for the real foundation reset. No waiting on perfect conditions—just getting under there and figuring it out. Most of this work happens after sunset. Headlamps on. Ocean waves in the background. Tools, mud, concrete, and whatever materials we can haul in from the surrounding area. Out here, plans change fast. No trip to the store. No easy resupply. So we improvise, borrow, scrounge—and keep moving. A $2,000 boat part. Weeks of waiting. Shipping to Fiji. Or... fly to Australia and build it ourselves. Warren and Erica leave SV VA safely at a marina in Fiji and fly to Australia for a week of hands-on boat building, exploration, and time with two of the most legendary people in the sailing world: Brian and Karin from Sailing Delos. The mission: build a custom aluminium part from scratch in the Delos boatyard — the same yard where Delos 2.0, one of the most ambitious custom aluminium sailboat builds in cruising history, is taking shape. The Netherlands has long been regarded as one of the most prestigious yacht building nations in the world, with names like Feadship, Oceanco, Heesen and Damen setting the standard for quality, innovation and pedigree. In this video, I take a look at a much newer name on the Dutch scene: Leapher Yachts. Based in Tolkamer on the banks of the Rhine, this boutique shipyard has transformed a historic former cruise ship building facility into a focused production hub for serious explorer yachts. What makes that especially remarkable is the scale of its first project. Leapher has just launched Horizon II, a 60.9 metre explorer yacht built for long-range adventure, polar capability and extended autonomy. For a young shipyard, that is an incredibly bold statement of intent. We’ll look at the vision behind the yard, the man leading it, the strategy of focusing on the 50 to 82 metre explorer segment, and why Horizon II is such an important launch. With a steel hull built to Ice Class and Polar Code standards, around 9,000 nautical miles of range at 10 knots, and up to 40 days of autonomy, this is a yacht designed to go far beyond the usual cruising grounds. I also talk about the team behind the project, including Van Oossanen Naval Architects, O7 Designers and Cor D. Rover Design, and why Leapher’s positioning in the market is so interesting at a time when entering Dutch yacht building is no small challenge. När något oväntat händer är det svårt att ha en plan. Men jag har fått många frågor om vad som händer nu, så låt oss prata lite om det. Just nu är vi tillbaka i Sverige och tar dagen som den kommer. Vårt fokus är att ta en sak i taget och vara i nuet. Det har vi faktiskt blivit ganska bra på efter två år av båtliv. Samtidigt har vi såklart funderat på hur det blir med båten och äventyret. Planen JUST NU är att återvända till Karibien om ungefär en månad. Beroende på hur vi mår, hur allt känns, hur världsläget är och hur vädret ser ut kanske vi fortsätter västerut i år. Eller så stannar vi kvar i Karibien. Vi vet helt enkelt inte exakt än, och det är okej. En sak vi verkligen lärt oss under två år som heltidsresande är att man kan ha en plan… men den ändras ofta. Det handlar lika mycket om mindset. Bestämmer man sig för tidigt för exakt vad som ska hända kan man lätt känna att man måste hålla fast vid det, även om det inte känns rätt längre. Vi känner att det kommer lösa sig och att det kommer bli bra, så länge vi är tillsammans. 💙⛵️ Resten får vi bestämma senare. Det fina med att ha ett flytande hem är ju faktiskt just det: Vi kan segla dit vi vill, på egen hand. 💙 Tack för att ni följer med oss på resan.
