Day 6 The day began, as it has throughout the week, with Radio Taiso. Later we escaped the summer heat with a visit to a nearby waterfall, where we sat sketching, talking, and enjoying the cool mountain water. It was another reminder that slowing down often allows us to notice more. That evening the circle widened. Neighbours and friends gathered for a taco party to celebrate Chiharu's visit and Mitsu's upcoming voyage across the Pacific. In 2027 he plans to sail Wahine from Japan to Mexico, following the migration route of the loggerhead turtles as part of the Turtle Highway Project. As I've watched this week unfold, one thing has become increasingly clear. Longevity isn't only about what we do. It's also about who gathers around us. Today wasn't just about a waterfall or a celebration. It was about community. Com o chapéu no chão, vivia do que as pessoas davam em troca de sua poesia, e lembra que viu "muita nota de 50 e de 100" no chapéu. Condenado pela família por largar uma vida convencional de "doutorzinho", Iberê não se arrepende. Pelo contrário, tem um orgulho imenso da experiência que a rua lhe deu e dos valores que formou. Essa filosofia se reflete em seu minimalismo hoje: uma escolha matemática para sobrar mais dinheiro para navegar, mas também uma forma de viver sem se preocupar com o que os outros vão pensar. Como ele mesmo diz, "a minha vida é reta". Uma demonstração de força que nos fez apelidá-lo de Hércules gaúcho, unindo a tradição do pampa à vida náutica de um jeito que eu nunca tinha visto. Essa imersão na cultura local do Rio Grande do Sul foi cheia de contrastes. Em uma noite, enfrentamos o vento minuano batendo a 30 nós, ancorados no Arroio Araçá; em outra, recebemos a equipe da TV Record local para uma entrevista inusitada às duas da manhã, para mostrar "o que acontece mesmo" a bordo de um veleiro de madrugada. E, como se não bastasse, foi por ali que meu drone encontrou seu fim aquático — por sorte, as imagens aéreas já tinham sido garantidas por um amigo em outra ocasião. Mas a maior surpresa estava em terra firme, na pequena cidade de Barra do Ribeiro. Lá encontramos a Fábrica de Gaiteiros, um projeto idealizado pelo músico Renato Borghetti. Um lugar onde crianças e adolescentes não só aprendem a tocar a tradicional gaita-ponto, como recebem instrumentos fabricados ali mesmo. Step aboard ROAM, a rare and highly customized 2010 Shannon 52 RDP raised-deck pilothouse cutter-rigged ketch built by Shannon Boat Company in Bristol, Rhode Island. Originally known as JAMBO JAMBO, ROAM is one of the most distinctive late-model yachts produced by Shannon. She was designed around a very specific cruising brief: a serious offshore yacht that could be comfortably handled by a couple, provide protected all-weather watchkeeping, offer true interior and cockpit steering stations, and deliver the redundancy and maneuverability of twin engines. The raised pilothouse is one of ROAM’s defining features. From inside the yacht, the watchstander has steering, engine controls, navigation displays, autopilot, and excellent visibility forward and around the vessel. In colder climates, the Espar diesel heater keeps the interior warm and dry; in the tropics, air conditioning, opening ports, shades, and ventilation make life aboard more comfortable. On deck, ROAM is set up for practical shorthanded sailing. Her cutter-rigged ketch sail plan keeps individual sail sizes manageable, while cockpit-led controls, electric winches, one-line reefing, a bow thruster, and twin Yanmar diesels make her a confidence-inspiring yacht for serious cruising. Her shoal-draft keel with retractable centerboard gives approximately 5 ft 7 in draft with the board up and 9 ft 7 in with the board down, combining shallow-water access with improved windward ability. Below, ROAM offers a warm and beautifully finished varnished cherry interior with teak-and-holly sole, three private staterooms, two heads with separate stall showers, a raised pilothouse saloon, dedicated navigation station, passageway galley, and a full-beam aft master suite. In this video, I explain why testing your anchor too early can be misleading when you don't have enough distance to deploy the proper amount of chain. If the anchor hasn't been set with adequate scope, a hard reverse test tells you very little—and may even force you to reset the entire maneuver. The forecast breeze showed up as promised, all four fleets, the 49er, 49erFX, FX Open and Nacra 17, got three races in each with zero delays and a few capsizes along the way. Germany's GER 21 (Heindl/Jacobs) and Italy's ITA 75 (Pezzilli/Torroni) lead the 49er fleet, both carrying two digit sail numbers from gold fleet finishes at the Senior Worlds. Poland's Klara Sobczak and Magdalena Skórnóg top 49erFX, Switzerland's Henri Rothacher and Noah Strempfer lead FX Open, and Nacra 17 has a tie at the top between Switzerland's Andrea Aschieri and Tine Rossel and Italy's Arto Hirsch and Sofia Borgia.
