Stack packs are a type of canvas sail cover for sailboats, offering convenience and efficiency in handling the mainsail. Paired with lazy jacks, these packs consist of a canvas cover that neatly encases the mainsail when lowered and zipped. The key benefits for sailors include quick and easy sail storage, streamlined deployment, and reduced crew effort. With stack packs, there's less of a need for manual flaking or folding; the sail more or less falls into place, simplifying the process for single-handed sailors or smaller crews. The packs also provide protection for the mainsail, shielding it from the elements and UV exposure, ultimately extending the sail's lifespan. Whether a seasoned sailor or a beginner, stack packs enhance the sailing experience by making sail management easier. -------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella started as a wooden boat building project in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve began the journey as an amateur wooden boat builder crafting a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and now sailing the boat—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that traditional wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project continues beyond the boat shop, as Steve and crew travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. -------------------------- If you are interested in supporting/helping here are a few ways: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/how-to-help Acorn to Arabella's wishlist: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/wishlistpriority TotalBoat supports A2A! We came to Annapolis to visit friends....but we may have just gotten roped in to something much bigger. Become a Patron, and get extras not available to ANYONE ELSE! https://www.patreon.com/mjsailing Not only did our friend/host give us a WONDERFUL place to stay while we're in town here, but after meeting up with us for drinks our first afternoon in, where we told him what we were looking for in a build site - he found us the perfect location THE NEXT DAY!! (Thanks again Jeff, we'll have to toast you again for this when we come over tonight, lol.) But, that's not all. While we were at Kentmorr Marina talking to the owner about the use of their paint tent for the build, he had another opportunity in store for us. Which came in the form of a place to live during the build. If you're curious to learn more - and want to see our shocked and dumbfounded faces for our entire visit there - make sure to tune in for this week's episode. Much love from Annapolis! The Sail Malaysia rally means sailing through pirates off the coast of north east Sabah. So does that also mean we need a faster sailboat? We talk to the commanders of ESSCOM (Malaysia's combined security force) and learn about protocols for safety in dangerous waters. We also talk to the fastest boat on the rally, an @JeanneauOfficiel Jeanneau 440 Sun Odyssey, and wonder if our heavy boat is really the best boat to be sailing in this situation. Followtheboat takes the first night watch and Liz explains a little bit about what we're looking out for... Peace and fair winds! Victoria and its people treated us so well! We do some fun things, learn about the history of British Columbia and then leave Canada and cruise back to the U.S. We clear customs in Friday Harbor where we visit the Whale Museum. We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved aboard our sailboat RAN, a custom built Beason 40 in aluminium, untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter, January 2016, and started sailing south along the coast of Europe. There is no set route and we will go where the wind and our minds take us. It’s Thursday 17th October and we’re getting very close to the point in the America’s Cup where the paperwork and process becomes crucially important. Sailing the North -West coast of Mallorca is a real pleasure and the lack of tourists this year means us yachties have the place to ourselves! We did have some exciting weather though and a scary moment as our mainsail halyard broke at the worst possible time. We had a really good passage from Mallorca to Menorca though, where we are now seeing more boats but still not many holiday makers on land. We wanted to get to Mahon, Menorca's capital, quickly as thats where our dinghy has been sent. It's a True Fit 2.5 meter dinghy from New Zealand and looks great. As your dinghy is basically your car while you're cruising we now feel like we've got a Mercedes to travel around in rather than a scooter! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You Tube are now putting mid -role adds on videos, but there is a way to see the current videos with no adds at all before they get released to the public. Malaysia are kicking us out and we need a plan!!! Lets lay it all out and evaluate our options... https://www.sailingnandji.com In this episode, it is time to lay it all out and make a plan. We have 25 days left to get everything in order and then off we go, but to where... I have been labouring hard on Nandji to get her ready to sail to destination unknown. It is time to evaluate all our options and give you a run down of what we are faced with. Everything is going to cost big bucks, no matter what we do. Let's try to make the right decision and live with it. If you are enjoying our videos, sign up to Patreon to help support us, our production and the adventures. You will get Exclusive videos, rewards on offer and engage with us more personally! https://www.patreon.com/Nandji If you would like to contribute towards Nandj videos, please use this link. Thank you. https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/Sailingnandji Grab some Sailing Nandji merch and help support our adventures whilst looking good! https://sailingnandji-shop.com With no sailing experience, we bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off from Australia sailing to the Pacific! We have since cruised through New Caledonia, Vanuatu, the Solomon islands, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and then onto the boat yard in Malaysia to prepare for the years to come. With a new engine, we continued onto Thailand, then back down into Indonesia and specifically West Sumatra to live the island life and chase the surf. With our Sailing plans changing, we returned to Thailand to wait for the weather and begin our journey to the northern route of the Indian Ocean to Sri Lanka before heading south across the Indian Ocean once cyclone season has finished and the trade winds begin! We were on our shake down sail when the mooring we were on failed and our home ended up on the reef... We saved the old girl and got her back to the boat yard for repairs to continue on our adventure! Ready to sail across the Indian Ocean, we were only days away from leaving when the pandemic begun closing countries around us... We are stuck for now, but enjoying the slower pace as we have just had our first baby, born in Malaysia! She is built to the standards of excellence that have always set Pacific Seacraft yachts apart. Quality is evident in every detail, from carefully fitted teak joinery to husky bronze fittings and impeccable mechanical installations. Crealock is well-known for cruising boats with exceptional performance, and Dana is the culmination of all he has learned. Sophisticated hull design, high ballast ratio and efficient sail plan provide stability and power for the kind of windward performance that is so often lacking in other pocket cruisers. Her beautifully traditional hull encloses an extraordinarily spacious and functional interior that is innovative and inviting. Her 6-foot 1-inch headroom, fully enclosed head, honeymoon berth and congenial main salon are but a few of her charms. A long list of standard features includes two-cylinder diesel power, winches, sails and full galley.

This week we continue our sail to the famous Yasawa islands, in the search of a peaceful anchorage and some much needed internet. And wow, Fiji is treating us well, we arrive at the north of the Yasawa group and have the anchorage all to ourselves. Kieran shows off his cooking skills (right? Who knew!). But the rest of the day takes a different tone when I receive devastating news from Australia. It is important you don't use much grease because it can easylly splash over the sails when furling in and out. In this video I use Quicksilver 2-4-C which is a "PTFE" teflon based grease for use in areas with high moisture. But the right grease for the job is Seldén lubrication grease - solid water resistant grease part nr. 312-501 - a white tube with black lid - price around 18 USD The point with the right grease is to lubricate but not mess up the sails and whole boat with black oil marks

"Dage Malicia, we will find the wind. The wind eventually will come back. I'm sure about that." Out here on the vast ocean, moments like these feel surreal. This is what a boat looks like with no wind: a quiet, restless place. The sound of nothing. The water’s stillness teases. I’m emotionally sensitive; it all impresses me deeply. Sitting here, I’m not just waiting for the wind. There’s agitation, reflection. A storm of thoughts, though the sea itself remains calm. It’s beautiful, the kindness of the ocean but also maddening. Four years of preparation, a new boat, dreams of cutting through waves at 20 knots. And here I am, becalmed. It makes me sad. I wish I could cry, sometimes. But most of the time, I manage. I see the positive. I have a good boat. I’m doing what I need to do. This is a race, just a game, really. A few days ago, I was with Benjamin; now he’s hundreds of miles back. Does it matter? Perhaps not. What matters is not slipping into negativity but finding wonder in the moment. So send me some wind, and we’ll talk later. We left you last week having sailed ~800nm of the Atlantic Ocean and this week we pick right back up where we left off! We went for 2 days without touching the Hydrovane to change course and then Adam took the reigns to make sure we still had a working rudder...and almost for something to do! We then had to start making some northerly ground and made our first gybe in 4 days, beating into some unbelievably strong currents. While I (Khiara) was a little unsure about what to do with myself during the daylight hours, we had plenty of visits from dolphins to entertain us! After a few days on this tack the wind finally shifted and we could start beam reaching our way into the Azores. Adam first spotted landfall (the island of Flores) on day 13 however on day 15 we finally crept towards Horta in a dead calm, celebrating what we'd worked for 2 years to achieve! We have finally crossed the Atlantic Ocean! In our last few days at the boat yard, Troy builds a new fuel tank and explains our proposed modified fuel system. We paint Mirrool's anti-foul, install the reconditioned injectors into our Yanmar 2GM20, repair 2 more osmosis blisters in the hull and make final preparations to the boat before the big splash. Once afloat, we discover that our engine's oil line has a pinhole leak so we improvise a work around repair. This video was filmed in Townsville in September 2018. Donations can also be made directly by visiting their website: http://www.coral.org Tarka is a 1973 Albin Vega 27 (8.2m) that I bought sight-unseen and without sailing experience on the island of St. Martin in April of 2017. I was thrust head-first into ocean sailing as I got Tarka safely south from what would become the most devastating hurricane seasons on record. We are now working our way west towards the Pacific. #63 Voici une étape de préparatifs très fréquente lorsqu'on parle de naviguer vers les îles avec un certain budget. Là-bas, les produits sont importés et coûtent souvent 2 à 3 fois plus chers qu'aux USA. We finally made it into the French Canals on our tiny floating home! Boat life is occasionally extremely stressful. Taking our tiny floating home through 100 stone sided locks would make any boast owner stressed.Upon entering the Canal du Midi with our sailing boat (now converted into a canal boat!), our first order of business was negotiating our first lock, the round lock at Agde. We had unstepped our mast and was transporting the mast on the deck of our sailing boat, so dealing with the overhang was a new experience- not to mention dealing with the awkward dimensions of the lock itself! But it was a LOT of fun (stressful fun- but isn't that the best kind?) and definitely a new experience. Bring on the rest of the french canals! We bought a Westsail 42 sailboat and we'd like to show you some of the projects we'll be working on through the Summer to get her ready for longterm cruising. She's a super-solid old girl with a whole lot going for her, but in order for her to be safe and reliable, there are some substantial changes that we have to make. Our plan is to work on her through the Summer, splash her in the fall, and take off for a cruising adventure after that. The A5 is powered by a 100-hp Rotax 912 engine that gives it a top speed of 109 mph (176 kph) and the company says it burns less than 4 gallons per hour, giving it a range of 500 miles over land with a 45-minute reserve. It runs on 91 octane or 100LL aviation fuel. Capt Steve takes it on a test flight - may be one of the most luxurious boat toys one can buy. Our worst day sailing across the Atlantic Ocean on our Beneteau Oceanis 393 - crossing the Atlantic ocean by sailboat involves a lot of challenges and we definitely encountered our biggest sailing challenge on our way across the Atlantic ocean so far. this is the third part of our travel vlog across the ocean on board of our sailboat Beneteau Oceanis 393 and while we spent most of the time fishing on the ocean so far, in our latest sailing vlog about our ocean crossing we show high waves, squalls and halliard problems which resulted in our worst day sailing the Atlantic ocean. watch the video to see how we repair our sailboat in the middle of the Atlantic ocean. For additional details pertinent to this video please read the description below. PIVOTING is the third video in our Physics of Docking series. Jeff Merrill and Douglas Cochrane have collaborated to share their combined docking knowledge with other boaters through this series of videos. Filming for these episodes was done in San Diego, CA aboard a single engine Nordhavn 57. There are two commonly used methods to pivot or rotate your single engine trawler, PROP WASH and PROP WALK. These were introduced in the previous episode, THE PROP, and now you can see them in practice in the PIVOTING video. Both actions work best in a “dead slow” or stopped position. By shifting in and out of forward/neutral/reverse you can learn how to control the speed of rotation and keep your circle within a small patch of water. PROP WASH is used to initiate a turn by first moving your helm hard over and then giving a short forward gear blast. The angled rudder deflects propeller turbulence (wash) and pushes your stern to the side which simultaneously starts spinning your bow. PROP WASH can be used to spin your trawler in a tight circle, either clockwise or counterclockwise by pushing the stern - depending upon which way your rudder is turned. Giving a short blast of turbulence in forward gear and then shifting back into neutral initiates the spin. PROP WALK is the “paddle wheeling” effect of your propeller in dead slow. Using your propeller to go backwards is inefficient for propulsion (the pitch is reversed) and the blades “crab” your stern sideways in the direction of the rotation. PROP WALK is only effective at very slow speeds as you must overcome forward inertia as this effect only works in reverse. PIVOTING using short forward gear bursts, countered by a swift shift into neutral, then clicking in reverse is a combination of PROP WASH and PROP WALK commonly referred to when combined as BACK AND FILL. If you favor the forward blasts and hold position with subtle reverse shifts you can use this Forward/Neutral/Reverse technique to turn your trawler in circles. PROP WASH, PROP WALK, and BACK AND FILL are techniques that can give you better control. They are most effective at dead slow when their influence is more significant. You will be a more confident docker once you understand how you to apply these methods to your specific trawler and how it will ultimately behave. Finally it is time to move back on board our freshly renovated Nandji! She is as good as NEW!! https://www.sailingnandji.com In this episode, after living in some nice apartments and some real shady ones, finally Nandji is ready for us to move back on board. Our floating home has seen some major renovations these past months and to move back on board and be preparing for the future journeys ahead, is a very special time. Countless hours has been invested into making Nandji a safe and beautiful home for our years of sailing to come. After completing the final installation of the new depth sounder, the jobs are complete. It is now time to get all our shit on board and prepare for the adventures ahead! Thank you. https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/Sailingnandji Grab some Sailing Nandji merch and help support our adventures whilst looking good! https://sailingnandji-shop.com With no sailing experience, we bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off from Australia sailing to the Pacific! We are stuck for now, but only weeks away from sailing off into the sunset once again. Now completing our second major refit, Nandji is ready for the world! We are only weeks away from sailing back to Australia through Indonesia. We will head to our home country for the summer and start again next year if the world is ready for us!!
