Bringing Yabá from wreck to dreamy! Episode 222 In this episode, our once rotten and sinking wooden boat is now a floating home that's taking us places. We are Ben and MP! Recently we decided to purchase a two-masted wooden schooner in Brazil. The fun detail about our story is that the boat we bought was sinking and relying on many bilge pumps to survive so we had to lift it onto the dry to start a full refit. Once the boat was lifted (for the first time in her life) we realized that the work needed was much more than expected. Between bailing or accepting the challenge, we decided to go for the second option. Watch us as we bring Yabá back to life with the help of an amazing team of traditional shipwrights, sharing every phase of the process, overcoming the highs and lows and having fun along the way. More about us: 👉 About us + Q&A https://youtu.be/TldDlohjwTs 👉 more info about the project http://www.sailingyaba.com 💙 Massive thanks to our amazing team of carpenters that never let us down and continue to amaze us at every step of the process: Toninho, Zeca, Hélio, Claiton, William, Nezo, Nico, Adilson, Beto and Luiz. Unfold your horizons - The Dragonfly 28 sets high standards for the possibilities of a sailing boat. The perfect boat does not exist - but the Dragonfly 28 is very close to this ideal. The Dragonfly 28 comes in both a Touring, Sport and Performance version. A fantastic boat for cruising and racing with family and friends.

When Guyot Environment crashed into 11th Hour Racing near The Hague in the final leg of The Ocean Race 2023, many people were left wondering – how can two IMOCA sailboats crewed by some of the best sailors in the world possibly collide in moderate conditions with good visibility? That’s exactly what we’re going to talk about in this video. Most of the around the world Ocean Race, as the name implies, takes place in the open ocean, far from land and other boats. These boats sail at insane speeds in very rough conditions, and the decks are often completely awash in very cold sea water. Because of this, one of the most significant risks to these sailors is being swept overboard, because the likelihood of being able to retrieve somebody alive is slim to none, especially at night in rough conditions. As a result, many of these boats have fully enclosed cockpits, where the crew can operate the boat from inside, which for most of the race is much safer and more comfortable than being on deck. However, because much of the race is in the open ocean, race organizers have been adding more inshore elements to the Ocean Race to increase visibility and spectator interest to keep the sponsors happy. In the Hague the boats had to complete two laps of a square inshore course before heading off to sea and the final stop of Genoa Italy. And it’s on these inshore legs that the enclosed cockpit design of these boats is really quite sub-optimal. It’s ironic that a boat design feature that has made the boats much safer for parts of the race has arguably made them more dangerous for others, but as they say, everything in sailing is a compromise. Exploring the beautiful island of Bequia in the Caribbean. Thank you for watching this episode of Adventures of an old Seadog, I hope you enjoyed it. Please give us a thumbs up and subscribe. Many thanks to my Patreons for supporting this channel. Now on Patreon. Im pleased to announce we are now on Patreon. On Facebook our page is ‘Adventures of an old Seadog’ and there you can find ‘realtime’ up-dates and news that you are welcome to share with your friends. All of the ‘Seadog’ videos are available to watch on the ‘Barry Perrins’ channel on Youtube. For notifications on new releases please subscribe. Thanks so much for your support, The adventure continues. Safe sailing. Twitter https://twitter.com/barryperrins Facebook https://www.facebook.com/adventuresofanoldseadog/ Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘blar bar mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. The world record for a global circumnavigation in a sailing vessel is held by IDEC Sport, a 100 foot long, 74 foot wide trimaran, with a time of just under 41 days. On their best day they sailed 894 nautical miles at an average speed of 37.25 knots, and they also managed more than 10 consecutive 800 mile days. By comparison, the fasted monohull is the 100 foot long Comanche, which holds the 24 hour sailing record for monohulls at 618 nautical miles, at an average of 25.75 knots. Both of these boats have similar length, professional crews, and use modern materials and construction techniques, but for some reason the trimaran is significantly faster, even though it is eight years older. But what is it about trimarans that makes them so much faster than monohulls? In this video we’re going to find out. This week we have got the greatest news for our sailing budget - our autopilot has been fixed, 50% by all our followers and 50% by us. All together we made it happen. We also have visited Heineken regatta in St. Martin and during those days met a guy, Victor, who recognized us from our YouTube movies :-) There was also one replacement on dinghy's motor - prop broke right in a middle of a lake. And no, we did not use paddles at that time. Jack found a way to come back home at low speed. We are an international couple - Jack (from France), Kateryna (from Ukraine). We have been crossing this wonderful life together since 10 years. Finally (after many years of dreaming) we are living a "true" life. We have a plan to sail across all oceans (almost), and will be happy to share this adventurous lifestyle with you! In this WoW 35th Americas Cup Report Emirates Team New Zealand are the focus as they nose dive, get hit by a struggling Land rover BAR boat (Ben says a light tap) a week out from the Louis Vuitton Challenge Series which also features the DEFENDER? How did that get voted for? Who ran that meeting? and more from the course as ETNZ Skipper Glenn Ashby (AUS) takes a dive of the back of the boat, Artemis Racing is looking good and Kiwi Defender leader Sir russell Coutts gives his "take" on the latest and generally all is tickety-boo for the event. I can't wait but I'm sure the shore teams are nervous. Keep watching www.boatson.tv "World on Water" Global Sailing News. We've already had one of our shows blocked by the AC mob so we'll bring you all the other footage from our mates in Bermuda.

It's been an incredibly difficult start to the Leg for the sailors, highlighted by the dismasting of Team Holcim-PRB's boat which has meant they now have to slowly return to shore. Meanwhile, Paul Meilhat has been struggling with severe illness aboard Biotherm's boat, and Team Malizia's Nicolas Lunven has been recovering from a head injury sustained earlier in the week. We sail back in time to where the Dragons roam free... https://www.sailingnandji.com This week on Sailing Nandji, with over 1600nm to sail west to reach Malaysia and our new motor, we can not waste time hanging around. It is a massive challenge we have set ourselves to sail this far in the changing of the seasons. Breaking the trip into smaller passages, we leave our overnight anchorage at Savu island and sail 150nm back in time the islands of Komodo, famous for the largest lizards in the world, the Komodo Dragons. These beasts are quite the sight as they let us know who is boss! We head out diving the pristine waters around the anchorage and are amazed at the vibrant sea life under the water. We had a great stop off at this amazing anchorage, but with many more miles to sail, it is back to sea we go with the remaining trade wind! We are a young couple with a dog, who with no sailing experience, bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing around the Pacific! We have been in Indonesia for a couple of months cruising and are now high tailing to Malaysia for boat work. We departed Australia 18 months ago and have since explored some amazing countries, met some amazing people and experienced cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our life doing it! The adventure is just beginning as we sail West with the trades! SUBSCRIBE TO OUR CHANNEL. https://www.youtube.com/c/frothlyfesailingnandji CLICK THE BELL to know when NEW Nandji videos are up! Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V700 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. There is a tiny island in Panama where 3 spider monkeys live that once were part of a research station. They are quite cheeky, walk like humans and if you are not careful, they will take off with your camera. It feels so good to finally explore the beautiful country Panama a little bit and not just be stuck in boat refit projects all of the time. Together with my friend Pierrique I go for a boat ride, we spear fish some fresh lobster that our local friend prepares for us and we ride through the jungle on horseback. Motorcycle, thunderstorm, manatees, osprey, snorkeling, crab, tarpon, dancing, sun bathing, bikini. Thank you so much subscribers! Ya'll rock! ❤️ We're still waiting for our car to be repaired and are using the Hayabusa motorcycle as our transportation. Riding in protective gear we cruised down to Key West for the day. Since Steve couldn't wear sunglasses under his visor and Karen's visor had a lot of crazing, we ordered a tinted visor for Steve and a clear one for Karen. There has been a lot of great wildlife around and hope you enjoy seeing them as much as we do. A rather close thunderstorm caused over seven inches of rain to accumulate in less than 24 hours. The lightning strikes were quite frequent and very close. Luckily no strikes on either of Isabella's masts, whew! As the water temperature increases, snorkeling is becoming more fun. The day we went the water looked extremely clear, but when we started snorkeling it was cloudier than anticipated and there was a lot of seagrass floating around. It was clear enough to see several small fish and conchs.
